When you need lots of room for an all-day adventure, take advantage of the CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack's expansive cargo space. This pack has plenty of room for extra layers and lunch, while an external, fleece-lined pocket keeps your sunglasses or MP3 easily accessible. Four compression straps and a comfortable harness and waist-belt stabilize the Alpine Explorer on your hike. A three-liter water reservoir keeps you well watered, while the mesh back panel allows for a bit of airflow in back.
Bottom Line: Discover a comfy, large-cargo hydration pack with a bit of CamelBak alpine exploring.
I'm about 6'3" and weigh 275lbs. I'm a big guy and this pack fits comfortably. If you're looking for a good day pack with plenty of water capacity, room to put things, that's comfortable, and very adjustable then this is what you want.
When I got the pack I went on an 8 mile hike, 4 miles both ways. I had PLENTY of water, and I drink a lot of water.
I even took quite a tumble down some rocks rolling over the pack on the rocks, no damage was done, of course that's not to say it cannot be ripped, however it is strong material and good stitching nonetheless.
When shopping for this pack I found it slightly cheaper elsewhere, however I choose BackCountry.com because they had reviews that helped make my decision much easier. (I like to support the sites that help me make better purchases.)
I am really glad I purchased it from BackCountry. I ordered the Olive Green/Burnt Orange, then changed my mind after it already shipped (hours after ordering), so I called them up, they said I could order the Black/Fennel Seed and refuse the package for the other pack and my card would be refunded. So I ended up getting both, refused the package and ended up changing my mind again and keeping the Olive Green/Burnt Orange. BackCountry's customer support was fantastic! Everything was handled promptly and I received my pack in perfect condition within a few days after ordering.
I highly recommend the CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 3L and BackCountry.com
I use this backpack mainly for commuting on my roadbike. For the first time in all of my reviews I really have nothing bad to say about a product. I used to think camelbaks were pointless considering waterbottles seem to do the job flawlessly until I had to drop some cash on a new daypack and I thought i'd give this one a shot. I now feel that it is the perfect day-pack/school-pack/gym-pack for MANY reasons.
Back ventilation is amazing with the "air director" tunnels. Even when I am pumping hard up hills my back gets a great air flow.
I never knew that drinking from a camelbak was so easy, and when I fill up the bag with hot water for my very cold morning bike rides to work the water is still warm by the time i am done with work. This thing has more organization than i could ever ask for and it is possible to load it up heavily (full water reservoir, work clothes, huge lunch for work, cable lock, work shoes, a raincoat, a fleece sweater and still room to spare) if needed because of the expanding area between the main compartment and the front compartment.
What really got me were the small details like Velcro on the straps to keep the straps rolled up and out of the way.
I love this pack, it is super comfy and definitely built to high standards.
I love this pack. I have a big frame (6'3", over 250 pounds). Pack fits well, holds enough water for me and my wife for longer duration hikes in hot weather. Has enough storage for wet weather gear, snacks, and emergency supplies. It is durable, standing up to sliding down rock faces (long story).
Write your comment here...why doesnt your wife carry her own?? If they're so good, buy her one!!! I personally would hate not to have a hydration pack with me and have to rely on another person.. but that's by the by...
The pack fits very comfortably, even wile leaning over handlebars for a while. Great stability. I also love the open mesh pocket where I can just throw my U-lock without taking time to unzip another pocket. Great pack.
Excellent hydration pack. I'd purchased another and found it to be too small. No problem at all returning it and buying the Alpine Explorer -- excellent customer service and value (free shipping, too) and the pack is not only the right size for me but in addition has 3 L of water capacity.
The only think I'd change is to add another side mesh pocket and have a removable belt, but those are minor.
The pack fits very well and is set up better inside than my old North Face Recon pack (that has no hydration but may be capable of an add on).
I'm very pleased with both the pack and Backcountry.
I used the pack for a day hike up Mt. Whitney. The size worked well to handle my needs. The water capacity is excellent. It provided enough capacity to handle going up and down with only a refill near the top. One really appreciates water when he or she is in thin air.
