CW-X Ventilator Tight - Men's

Your quads and calves tend to get hot and sweaty while you run, so CW-X made the Men's Ventilator Tights with mesh panels in those two areas. These stretchy mesh panels are like built-in air conditioners for your legs, so you get less heat fatigue. CW-X included their patented Conditioning Web which supports the muscles and ligaments around the knee joint and offers support to both the medial and lateral head of the gastrocnemius in your calf. The UPF 40-rated fabric provides UVA and B protection while you run on fall and spring days.

Bottom Line: Knee and calf support, plus quad and calf air-conditioning.

Between these and my stabilyx I cannot wear any other tight ever again. These are lighter and still provide nice support.

My only thing with the cw-x tights is that I am 5'8' and 155 lbs-ish and find myself right in between small and medium. Both work, but the major difference between the two is that the medium has a larger waist which wasn't where I need the size differential (more in the quads area).

Worth It!

I prefer the all-black cw-x tights, too. However, these offer great support with much less heat build-up on the quads and calves than the regular cw-x expert and pro tights. Not cool enough for hot weather, but terrific when it is warm. I'm not slender, either (6' 2", 215), but they fit great and perhaps I am just more willing to entertain my wife and enjoy the smiles (snickers?) of others. In sum, I think they are great and recommend them highly.

If you kick as hard as JCVD in Bloodsport II yeah they'll probably fray within a training session or two. If you're more the Ralph Machio type you're probably safe. I'd stick to shorts but if you must these are really durable they'll certainly hold up as well or better than any other tight and they'll definitely make you look flashy during the Ram Muay or when doing spin kicks.

The best in its class

CW-X Ventilator tights integrated a design similar to Kinesio Taping method that gives major support to the muscles in the hamstring and knees. I've used this model in some very hot weather races and in cooler weather too, I highly recommend any product by CW-X they're a step above the rest.

A few questions:

1) Other than the ventilation, what is the difference between the ventilator tights, the performX tights, and the stabilyx tights?
2) I'm 6'1", 175 lbs...typically too tall for medium and too skinny for large. Is medium the right size?
3) Do these tights provide sufficient support higher up the thighs or is it necessary to wear a pair of briefs under them?

I am of similar height and weight, and the CW-X medium size fits me very well. While I have no direct experience with the Ventilator tights, I do own three of their other tights. I find the sizing to be consistent among them, so I feel confident that the Ventilator will be sized similarly.

UPDATE: I recently bought a pair of the Ventilator, and the medium size fits me perfectly.

Saves the legs

I love these tights. Not cool enough for hot days but when it is not cold these work great. Also have the CW-X pro tights and I do find better recovery.

I'd shoot for a large. Depending on your waist and inseam you may want to pick up a medium and large and return whichever one didn't work.

Fantastic, helps with recovery

By:
May 19, 2009

I got these for the warmer days and find that they are very helpful for the activity and also for recovery. I have found that using these for a couple days after a long run or ride it keeps the swelling down and the recovery is faster. It would be nice if it did not have the seam down the center of the crotch.

My first running tights

By:
January 29, 2009

I had trained for the '08 Honolulu Marathon and had been stymied by some IT-band pain once I hit longer distances. I finished the marathon way slower than I intended because of this but spoke with another guy from my training group who swore by his compression tights. I did some poking around and CW-X seemed like they were the most targeted and came with good reviews. A month after the marathon I was back out out running 5 milers in the tights with zero IT stiffening, and a week after that ran a 14 miler, again with no IT-band issues. I live in Los Angeles so I will be interested to feel the heat dispersion when it warms up but these have actually kept me a bit warmer on those mornings where its been in the 50's. While I had a small amount of chafe in the beginning, it does not take away from my 5 star review. Simply put, for me, these tights have been completely effective and I won't be doing any long runs without them. Now I just need to find some ultra-lightweight shorts w/o built-in briefs to wear over them (hey, I'm a modest guy).

Ditch the colored panels.

By:
July 7, 2008

I have a pair of Pro-tights (all black) and love them, however they are a little too warm for my summer workouts. I don't know what I expected when I ordered these, but the different colored panels just didn't suit me style-wise. I have no doubt the product is as sound as other CW-X product. Call me vain, but I am a larger runner, and my wife just busted a gut laughing at me in these. Simply a style issue, maybe not an issue for women or slender athletic men.

Better than shorts for long runs

By:
December 11, 2008

I was getting sub-patellar knee pain after running. These tights stopped it as hoped. I run in Texas where it is usually hot, and they are comfortable- and, indeed, in the cold they are no help!

just right

By:

Living in SoCal these are prefect. Great for year round training. Even did a race where it snowed and they still helped.Maybe not as much as the insulators but enough to finish strong. They fit like a second skin and really help keep your legs in a good position. Helps with fatigue and recovery. Wish I could afford to have a pair for everyday!

For non a non slender waist.

By:
July 24, 2008

I have the same idea then you, but all men don't have slender athletic waist.
I ask if it was possible to have what you call: "Low Rise at waist". With low rise we will be more confortable then having to pull it down.
If you go with compression pants, that because we want to fell great in it.
