Slogging away for that spring marathon on a treadmill? Pull on the CW-X Men's Stabilyx Tights and get some fresh air. The Stabilyx Tights offer targeted support to protect your lower back and core area so you can run strong with less fatigue. These running tights also integrate CW-X's Conditioning Web, which helps muscles and ligaments band together to stabilize your knee joints. With Coolmax fabric, moisture stays away from your skin and heads to the outside of the tight. Flat seam construction keeps you chafe-free so you can get your training runs done in comfort.
Bottom Line: Run long and strong in the CW-X Stabilyx Tights.
these tights are great for running, even in the winter. I have also used them for support for fly fishing wading. Support is superb. Lower back support is unbelievable. I definitely recommend them.
These will work great. I recommend wearing your normal (tight) spandex shorts with a chamois under them. That way you get the padding from your shorts with the warmth of the tights. It should work out great for you. Thanks
worn them for about 2 weeks now. Tight at first then you forget about it. No problem with size at all. good in cool weather (32F or 0C) too. i feel the tights push me along in my run. i feel a little less effort is needed or it seems that way. glad i got them. Eric
Hey i bought CWX expert thights (small in size) a while ago and i've been using them for recovery. However, I would also like to use them for running, but when i do, they start crumpling around the knee area. I think that might be related to my height. I'm 5'6" and 145 pounds.
Do they have them in XS? Or what are my options? Is the fit different amongst the different models?
I finally splurged and bought a pair of CW-X tights, and I can not believe what a difference they've made for skiing. Typically after a long day I'm sore in my lower back, but the phenomenal support given by the tights made a hard day at Alta seem like a breeze. The support given to the knees improves flex and stance as well. I highly recommend these for every skier. If you're wanting to save layers, get the insulated version of the tights.
Hi There. Good question. You may be able to shrink the Stabilyx Tight Large down a little bit in the dryer, but not much. Keep in mind that the tights need to feel comfortable, like a second skin. Not too tight. Just having slight support and pressure in the support web will give you the benefits of the support tights. However, if the fabric is bunching up and you see wrinkles around thee quad or knee area, then the size is too large. Based on your height and weight, I would recommend a size large. If you weighed less than 170lbs and had skinny quads like me, I would recommend a Medium. Hope this info helps you.
The tights are great. The material and cut is top notch and super comfortable. They are breathable and relatively cool to wear. I've worn them in the winter (under my snowpant) and the summer (with a pair of shorts). As they are more of a compression short/wicking base layer aren't super warm in the winter. I got a pair of the Insulator versions which I'll try out this winter. The conditional web support your IT band along you outer thigh and then wrap around your knee to help keep it aligned during exercise. It's not going to be better than say a DonJoy hinged brace... but it's far better than those neoprene knee sleeves that you pull on. They also work well as compression shorts, massaging your muscles as you move and help keep them from getting fatigued. These two effects are subtle... but definitely noticeable to me. I've had a variety of long underwear (Patagonia, Burton, UnderArmour, etc) that I've bought a high discounts... while I bought my first two pair of CW-X for like 70% off... I liked them so much I got another pair for full price. That's how much I like them.
I wear them for ice hockey, snowboarding, running, cycling and hiking.
Just finished my 5th run in these tights I've used tights ever since they came out I was in the 80's but I got out of running for the last 5 years, these tights really do what they say. They hug the knee's and hip joints its like I never stopped running no pulled mussels no back pain. no wonder there so exspensive they really work. Thank's for a product that lives up to its billing!! Happy Running All!!
I need knee support and live in a hot climate. Which model would you recommend. Also I tried on a medium at a shop and they were really tight. If I get a large size will the support bands be placed around my leg incorrectly? I know, dumb question.
Hi There. For warmer climates I would consider the CW-X Ventilator Tight- Specifically designed for warm climates) or the CW-X 3/4 Stabilyx Tight. The correct fit is important. The tights should feel like a second skin. Not too tight but definitely not too loose. If they are too loose, the support structure will not work properly. You will know if the tight is too big if the fabric bunches up and has major wrinkles around the knee and the quad area.
I used these in an adventure race last weekend. I guess I was expecting bionic legs after all the hyped up reivews. My legs still got as tired over the 6 hours of the race, and I don't feel that they gave me extra noticeable stability. On the bright side, these cost about $20 more than your standard running tights and the compression is quite a bit more noticeable. Also, these pants were extremely durable when faced with briar bushes in the woods. Surprisingly, I didn't get any snags in the fabric. It was really great having that extra protection on my legs so that my legs didn't end up cut to shreds. In closing, I have an IT band issue and have problems running. These pants in no way fix injuries for you. They are what I'd consider the top level of compression running pants. I'm overall happy with the purchase and would buy them again. I'm a weekend warrior type, and not an elite athlete, so take that into account with this review.
Hi there, I would like to know what temperature these tights would be ideal to wear in. I am debating between these ones and the Stabilyx insulator tights. I am from Toronto, Ontario in Canada. Also I would like to know is there any difference other than insulation between the Stabilyx and the Stabilyx insulator.
Hi There. I think I can answer your question. There is no difference in the type of support you will get between the CW-X Stabilyx tight and the CW-X Insulator Stabilyx tight. The main difference is in the fabric. The non insulated Stabilyx tight is constructed of Coolmax which is a great overall athletic material that breathes and wicks away moisture. The Insulator version is made from a proprietary nano-tech Temperature regulating material called Autosensor. This material feels slightly thicker than coolmax and has a brushed micro fleece feet on the inside. The Autosensor material is designed to sense the temperature outside vs your skin temperature. If your skin temperature is cold, the material forms a thermal barrier and traps heat while you warm up. Once the temp reaches about 81 degree F the material starts releasing heat keeping you at an optimal temperature during exercise. The other main difference in the tights is that the Insulator Stabilyx Tight has wind blocking material on the quads. Great for colder or more windy days. Bottom line is that now we are in October, the Insulated Stabilyx Tight may offer you enough temperature flexibility but you will be able to use it once the temps get cold. Also it's a great underlayer for Snowsports like Skiing, snowshoeing, Tele, etc. Hope this helps.
Gracias
I am thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, and spandex is the best thing to wear on a daily basis as they dry quickly when wet and give lots of support.
These are excellent, fit great, feel great, and good for long term use. The only problem with them is the waist is not elastic, it is a drawstring. For me, this means my backpack waist straps go directly where the waist strap is and it wasn't very comfortable, I would need to finangle a way to make it comfortable.
I'm 5'11" 185 and I get the XLs. They fit just about right, but tighter than I'd like. Any people who are built with large athletic bodies are left out of the CWX line. They really need to rectify this.
These tights are great for running and biking. They are breathable enough for a hot day but keep you just warm enough for a chilly morning. Though expensive, they are a worthy investment!
Hey Rush, To keep it simple: The stabilyx is for increased muscle support. The ventilator is for increased breathability. The pro is a mixture but much lighter and mainly for racing.
I did not believe that a pair of tights could make such a difference. But they really do. I trained all winter for a ultra marathon and these kept me warm without getting all sweaty. Supported my muscles and greatly reduced my fatigue. I could go for a bit less flashy looking design though.
I injured both my knees recently, one worse than the other, but while they felt fine during daily activities, running would aggravate the inflammation and could get pretty painful at times. running with a brace or wrap was disappointingly ineffective, as they always seemed to slide or loosen. rather than stop running and rest like a good boy, I bit on the advertising hook and dropped a couple dimes on a pair of these. I don't know if the company says they'll help you run on an injured knee, and I'm not gonna suggest it either (go see a doctor like a responsible adult), but I can say that I have run in these 3 times since I bought them and my knee pain has dropped to practically nil. 2 weeks ago, 3 miles hobbled me, and I would have to shuffle around the house like a 90 year old man. first day I put these on, 3 miles didn't phase me. I can't say they'll fit everyone's needs, but for me, they are well worth the high price.
After wearing these, I can't see ever wearing anything else but CW-X tights of any type! I recommend them to anyone who will listen. My only minor thing is the sizing...I am 5'8" and around 155lbs. and find that the small is slightly too small and the medium slightly too big...
Im 5'9" 210 with a rather muscular build. I intend to wear these with an Icebreaker 200 weight base layer for skiing. First, is this the best style? Second, which size should I get?
These are my favorite tights. They are supportive, reduce fatigue, and have a high quality spandex material I have never seen in a pair of tights. They are worth their weight in carbon fiber!
Hi,I want to buy the CW tights for my father who is an avid runner and not sure what size and style to get? He is 5ft 11" and weighs 87Kgs/ 191 pounds.Regarding the styles should I purchase the stabilyx or the insulator pro as he has torn his calf muscles and I thought they would help? He would use them in cold/spring weather, please advise? Many Thanks,
Emma, I would say he would be a large. His height is on the lower end of the large, but his weight is right in the middle of it. Better to get it a little longer than too short, and a little bigger than too small. I would also go with the stabilyx over the insulator because of the calf muscle problems. The stabilyx will fit tighter and focus more on keeping the muscles stable rather than keeping him warm. Hope that helps. Good Luck.
I bought these tights to train for and hike the Continental Divide Trail. My knees have taken a beating over the years so after the first month of training for the CDT, I couldn't run. My knees hurt too much. After using the CW-X tights, I can run, hike, and cross train. I plan to wear them on the trail--I'll treat them with permethrin to prevent any tick-related illnesses. The Cool-Max fabric wicks moisture away from my skin while the integrated lower-body support really works. I would suggest selecting a larger size than normal; I am 5'8" and 165lbs (31 waist, 30 inseam), originally purchased a small, but the inseam from hips to knee was an inch short. I tried a medium, and they fit perfectly. I haven't found a comparible product anywhere. I'm glad I have them and strongly recommend them to others. I give the tights a 4 (not a 5) because they are a bit expensive.
I bought the tights to go under my ski pants as a base layer. We were in Beaver Creek and the temps were in the 40's early in the week and in the low 20's later in the week. The breath well but also did a great job of insulating on the cold days.
I was impressed the most with the support for my lower back and knees. I normally wear knee braces and decided against it this year and had no concerns! I will wear them from now on and I definetly recommend them to others!
I originally bought the CW-X Stabilyx men's tights because I wanted something to wear while bicycle commuting in the Pacific Northwest rain. But by chance I had a couple of buddy's ask me to go running one day. Now, I am not a runner, but I figured what the heck - I'll put these tights on and see how it goes. (I partially tore my MCL while night skiing last February). They did a great job of supporting my knee, and got me thinking more about running on a recurring basis. I thought they were a little spendy, but after using them I think they are worth every penny for the support they give me. Although I am a fit 50 year old (which most people never guess) I will take all the help I can get wherever I can get it.
I am a 54 year old who has been running for 15 years. Wore these tights for a 1/2 marathon and felt they helped but don't expect miracles. In order to get them to fit I had to order a Large and feel a medium / tall would have fit better and offered more support. I am 5'11'' (33 inch inseam) and 180 lbs and ordered the large for my height.
I am training for HIM triathlon and I wear these at every speed work at the track. No chaffing, no stitching irritation,... but most of all faster recovery time!
These are superior to regular tights, there's no doubt about it. They add support in almost every area of the lower body where you need it for running. For shorter runs of 5 or 6 miles, i really don't notice much of a difference as compared with regular tights..but when you get upwards of 8, and into the range of 10 to 13 miles, the amount of fatigue of the muscles is reduced. CW-X has a great design here, but there's a BIG problem - that huge seam across the crotch! this is one of the largest seams i have ever seen..and in the area where one needs the smoothest, smallest seams of all - horrible move.. you cannot wear these tights at the height they're meant to be worn without getting severe chaffing. i have to wear mine so i have plenty of clearence under my boys or else i'm in trouble..this in turn sacrifices the support system of the tights..at this price, you're better off buying two pairs of regular tights...like i said, the idea is there and it works! but until they fix the crotch area, they won't be getting anymore of my money.
So I was looking to buy performance tights and I was kind of skeptical if these things really work. I took them out on a long run like, 20 miles long and I have to say these things are awesome. not sure if its just me, but during my long runs my legs tend to feel like they want to give out. However while wearings these tights I lost that feeling, its almost like they kept my legs in place and provided the support I needed for the run. The next day after my run I wasn't hurting like normally do and was less sore. I bought to pairs one for the one and the other to recover in its well worth it.
I am a 6' tall woman and I first bought a woman's L but was left wishing for longer length. I always have to insist that the reinforced support go around my knee caps. The men's L fits a bit better on the legs, but the women's holds my hips and buttocks better. The support is great in either case. I alternate which pair I wear and still wish they would make a women's tall size or a tall men's in a M. These tights have made a big difference in my jogging endurance, allowing me to focus on my cardio workout rather than on sore knees.
I am a college baseball/softball umpire and we wear tights under our clothing to protect us from the gear. I have been wearing McDavids or Nike for the last 10 years. Having had 5 knee operations and having spent more than 17 years umpiring I was looking for something else. The Stabilyx Tights are the something else. I bought 2 pair a few weeks ago and have umped approximately 20 games since. My legs haven't felt this good in a long time. I also think I am moving around the field a lot better (maybe even a little faster - I'm 61years old)but that just may be the mental confidence of feeling so good. I showed them to my son who is a college pitcher (with a few knee problems of his own) and he stole one of the pair. He told his buddy who is in the Washington Nationals minor league system about them and he stole the other pair. Today I ordered 2 more for myself. His buddy said half the guys on his team want to order the Stabilyx for themselves. I been talking with my fellow umpires about the and the response is the same. We all put a lot of stress and wear on our legs and this product seems to have been developed just for us. Seems to me that if they help us this much, helping the skier or runner ought to be a breeze and making the decision to buy them should be a no-brainer.
If you have any problems with your knees, tighs lower back, don't be shy to try the best compressions tights on the market today. I had a serious problems with my knees, tighs, lower back when I get involved in an auto accident. I WAS addmitted in a rehabiitation Center for a few months, and after all kind of supports the solution was wearing CW-X Stabilyx compression tights. Recently due that I had gain lot of success due to my CW-X compression tights and I had to make some changes recommanded by my specialist. My alignement in the muscules area of my knees and tighs needed better alignements and I was recommanded to wear a smaller size to permit better compression. I asked BackCountry Company if I can exchange sizes of a pair a tights that I ordered before, and it was with a lot of kindness that I had an exchange and with the best courtesy of the world. I will recommand that you deal with BackCountry with your heath problems and be aware to let your doctor know about it, because My Doctor was not familiar with CW-X products. I also recommand that if you have some doubts concerning some informations, BackCountry have some real professionnal with direct chatting and very nice persons. Please let deal with those fabulous persons. Real gentle persons and very patient and great to help.
These puppies provide some great support without rubbin me the wrong way. I have bad knees and on long bike ride they tend to give a bit. While wearing these tights I've seen some improvement, more stability, and comfort. They wick like no other, very breathable. I highly suggest these bad boys.
I took up biking a few years back because running pounded my back and knees to the point where I couldn't enjoy it anymore. When I saw these I thought I would try them to see if they lived up to their promise and would allow me to get back on the road. I have worn these now to run, for skiing, and biking and haven't regretted the decision. They are a wonderful product and I will buy again when the time comes.
After hearing how great these tights are for runners, I decided to try them for skiing. I've been skiing for over 40 years and I hurt after a good day. I got these near the end of the season, so I did not test them Backcountry skiing. But I did get in some Resort skiing. Alpine skiing usually causes me pain in the back and knees, frequently hurting just after a couple of hours into the day. The Stabilyx definitely helped hold off the pain while skiing, which makes me feel a bit stronger and more aggressive. Of course I still hurt later at night like usual, but I did not expect them to reverse time. I can't wait till next winter to see if they really work on the IT band when climbing 3 to 6000 vert a day.
