CW-X Expert Tight - Men's

CW-X Men's Full-Length Conditioning Tights belong to a new class of high-performance equipment known as conditioning wear. This clothing is engineered to provide a host of benefits to your body, including key muscle group support, increased endurance, shorter recovery times after exercise, lactic acid buildup prevention, and precise knee joint alignment. Established in Japan in 1991, CW-X based its designs on the human body's unique motion during exercise. Perfect for running, cycling, climbing, and snowsports, Conditioning Tights work by combining two unique zones of stretch material. The body is constructed from a Coolmax and 4-way stretch Lycra blend, providing targeted muscle support and impressive moisture-wicking properties. The key to the Conditioning Tights, however, lies in the 2-way stretch Conditioning Web that encircles the knee joint and key muscle groups. While stretching longitudinally, this web holds muscles securely in place laterally, reducing vibration and increasing comfort. Flat seam stitching throughout ensures chafing is never a problem.

Bottom Line: The adventure equipment of choice for improving your body's performance across a wide range of activities.

So so

By:
September 29, 2009

I have had the tights for 7 months now, I wore them this past Sunday for a 50 mile race it was cool (50ish) and rained most of the 11+ hours. Today is Tuesday and the boyz are not happy with the tights. If you get the chance take a look at the stitching in the crouch and ask yourself if your boyz would like to hang with that much extra material for a long period of time. That being said maybe I should have lubed the boyz more or something, but they did a great job with keeping me warm when I was cold.

Not all they're cracked up to be

By:
May 12, 2008

After reading the reviews I expected something great, or at least a noticeable difference. I don't. After several marathon training runs I have the same muscle soreness afterward and also feel muscle soreness during the run at approximately the same point in time I have before. Also, I've found the fit isn't great. I'm 5-8 and 130 pounds and ordered size small. The knee diamond (support area) seems to slide down when I'm running. Far from being too tight, they're a bit too loose and seem slide down off my thighs. I can't pull them higher as the crotch bottoms out. These are not worth the price in my opinion.

Former skeptic, now a believer!

By:
December 22, 2008

Initially I was skeptical regarding the premise behind the CW-X product line. Eventually, I decided to purchase the Expert tights and one of the CW-X long sleeve tops.

I have been wearing both products during my cold weather runs and downhill skiing. They have made a believer out of me!

These tights look well-made to my eye, and the material feels good against my skin. They do a good job of moderating temperature underneath my outer shell. I feel as though my stamina holds up better during activity, and I feel much less wear and tear the next day.

So why only 4 stars? I do have a small issue with the length of these tights. I am 5'7", 175 and I wear these in men's S. Even at that size the knee cutouts tend to ride a bit low. I can control this somewhat by bunching the fabric in the thigh area.

Legs Lover the support.

By:
March 13, 2009

They don't slide on like a normal pair of tights. It takes an extra minute or two. However, well worth the time spend putting them on. Legs have less forting after long runs. Size is right on IAW sizing chart. I clean my CW-X IAW manufacture care instruction and after dozens of washing, they still perform, as they were new.

Getting ready to go for a run with these pants and I've never known the answer to this question... what are you supposed to wear with these pants for "support"?

There are three things you can wear-1. regular cotton briefs, which will get clammy. 2. support boxer briefs from underarmour, nike, adidas, etc., which are expensive. 3. And don't laugh-control top pantyhose, which give an extra layer of warmth and wick sweat well. They also keep your boys from jumping around. If you feel less masculine, think about this-football players wear them to keep warm and look at all the tights available for men. Believe me I wasn't crazy about the idea until I tried it. And they are cheap.

Best Purchase Yet!

By:
May 6, 2009

I am a novice runner who will be running in my first marathon later this year. I bought these to see if the really did help with leg muscles.
I've been using them for about a week now and I have found that they do make a difference. I have only used them on shorter runs, but my legs feel far less sore when I am finished than before I bought these. It has been in the high 30's and low 40's when I was using them and I found them to keep me at a very good temperature while I was running.
As far as the fit, they feel great. I am 5'10" and weigh somewhere between 145-155 lbs. I ordered the medium and have had no problems with slipping, or feeling too tight. I would recommend these for anyone who gets soreness in their upper legs after running.

Massage on the legs

By:
April 27, 2004

These tights work to help you keep going. And after you are done they help your legs recover. I have used them for biking, skiing and running. I notice a difference in endurance and recovery when I don't use them. I try to use them every time but they get a bit warm in the hot sun. You need these if you play hard.

PERFECT!!!!

By:
October 2, 2008

My CW-X Expert's just arrived today and I am completely satisfied with them. They fit perfectly and the 3-day shipping option worked out just right...I am a 5'9" distance runner and I weigh 147lbs...and the SMALL size fits exactly as a performance tight should...I was a bit hesitant ordering a small (thighs and hammies are fairly big as compared to the lower leg), but the small size contours just right and supports the knee area dead-on. There is no extra material in the crotch and did not slip down the leg after running in them...I will give you a better review after October 12th (Chicago Marathon)...I recommend these based on today's run...Oh yeah, one last thing, the color is not as I thought...but who really cares...we're guys!!!

I'm a 6' tall, 165 lb woman and I'm trying to figure out the appropriate size of tight to order. According to the sizing chart, my height puts me outside of the range for the women's tights so I was considering ordering a men's tight. Any advice would be appreciated!

Saved my week

By:
February 15, 2007

I am 57, have had a lumbar and cervical spine surgery, and now have a "frayed" meniscus in my right knee. I purchased these tights right before a week of alpine and x-country skiing in Jackson Hole/Grand Targhee. They were great. I had little or no knee pain and even my lower back felt good. My only comment is that, on recommendation, I ordered large because of height and waist, but I am thin and could have ordered medium. I recommend highly.

A MUST have!

By:
January 7, 2008

I initially planned to buy these tights as a present for my husband, who is an ultra marathoner. When I extensively researched the tights, I found such great reviews. I also have a son who is a runner and does HS XC/track. During the summer my son will run 500+ miles for training. I thought they sounded as though they could be of benefit for him also. So, I bought them both a pair! They absolutely LOVE the tights. They say the support is instantly noticeable. Neither one complained of any muscle discomfort after running while wearing the tights. Both also state that the tights provide good support to the knees. Highly recommend this product and this company. Service was great, product shipped immediately and I had them in no time!

CW-X tights- Highly recommend!

December 17, 2003

These CW-X tights are great for Tele and backcountry touring. I get great support in the knee and upper leg area and they are very warm, and breathable. I would highly recommend them to anyone that needs better circulation in the legs. Their compression system helps with circulation, and keeps your muscles warm. I highly recommend these CW-X tights!

Great Performing- All Around Tights

By:
December 29, 2003

I just bought a pair of these tights and I love them. They fit great, and do even more than they say. My legs stay warm and feel strong throughout the day. I use these under my wind pants for snowshoeing, but I also wear them on the exterior when I trail run. The leg and knee support is a great system. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

I'd be awfully surprised if the tights went on sale other than during Backcountry's half-yearly sales. From an outdoor retailer's standpoint, they're really not season specific, and the product lines don't change all that often. If you're really trying to ask 'Is this thing really worth the money or should I only buy it if I can get a deal?,' I have to answer with a resounding and emphatic YES. CW-X tights are all that they claim, and more. You'll be happy, even if your wallet won't be.

they really do help!

By:
July 8, 2004

I admit I was sceptical about these tights about their muscle conditioning claims, but I needed to try something to help my legs.
Over a month into using them and I can honestly say they are fantastic. Fit well and really help my leg muscles. I use them for all my running and cycling (long distance and sprint). They really help keep my leg muscles in place. I would recommend these to aid in reducing muscle soreness and for quicker recovery. Not the warmest though. Still a little chilly on the bike.

Nice for running but for cycling.....

By:
November 15, 2004

Very nice piece of clothing for running in the cool to cold weather. I can actually feel the re-inforced material around my whole legs for extra support.
However, not very accomodating for cycling. Back of the tight is too low so when you are riding a bike your back part will be exposed. This is why most of the cycling top/bottom have long back than the front.

I bought this product to help with my issues of having tight leg muscles when I went hiking or running. These really do help! I don't get as tight during exercise and it seems that my cramping problems have gone away.
I would highly recommend these to anyone.
They keep my legs warm when it's cool, but in the heat of the day, they breathe incredibly well and keep my cool.
Great all around product.

CWX Tights

By:
December 1, 2004

I had some trouble getting the size right. I thought the large was too small then I got the XL which was way too big. I went back to the large. They ride a little lower in the waist then what I am used to and I wish they were an inch longer. I am using them on long runs for my first marathon training. They seem to have helped with some thigh fatigue I was having. I will be wearing them for the marathon where even a little bit of an edge will be appreciated.

They Work!

By:
January 27, 2005

Motion Control shoes, orthotics--helped-- but did not solve my leg pain. Out of desperation, I tried these tights (I'm more of a shorts or sweats guy). But they not only helped, but they have virtually eliminated any knee or leg pain I've been suffering from on long runs. They fit a little weird at first, but you quickly get accustomed to them. I highly recommend for people with leg problems.

Pricy but worth it

By:
February 28, 2005

CW X Conditioning tights cost about twice that of other running tights - but for those of us who have "staying injury free" as a main goal, they are worth the cost. I do masters track (jumps/hurdles) and have frequently pulled hams, runner's knee, etc. CW-X conditioning tights seem to make a significant difference. I'd buy them (or the pro version) again instead of two pairs of others.

I like these a lot however I am not sure that they are worth the premium price. I changed quite a few things the first time I wore the tights and haven't skied without them since. They seem to work as advertised, but I don't think that they are a bargain.

AWESOME

By:
September 19, 2005

These tights are most likely the best ever manufactured. Not only are they prefect for running in all kinds of weather conditions, but they are perfect for all kinds of activities as well. The support and compression they provide to the leg muscles and knees is nothing short of a technological miracle and the feel you get from using them is one of the best you can experience from a mere piece of clothing. Any serious athlete needs to own at least one pair of these. I strongly recommend them.

I find that these tights that surround the kneecap allow me to ski black diamond bump trails without getting tired as quickly as I did before getting them. I highly recommend them to skiers, and I have purchased a pair for my wife who is a ski instructor and is also on her feet most of the day.

non-scientific approval!

By:
June 7, 2006

I think this is where the sector is moving as I can feel the effect of this tight helping muscles shake/vibrate less, with the impression (perhaps truth) of less tiredness and improved recovery. Psychological perhaps; perhaps true. I think so. I read about stockings (Radcliffe) being used; well it seems logical that the larger muscle groups of the leg can also benefit from support.

Bought these tights 2 years ago when I started running in the winter outside. Keeps you warm down to about 25 degrees yet doesn't make me hot when the temperature rises outside. On long runs/races I've definitely noticed the improvement in my times which I attribute is due to the stability web.

CW X expert tights - Men's

By:
November 27, 2006

The tights were all that was advertised. The compression panels, sewn in at strategic points, on the tights enabled me to run without noticeable muscle fatigue. They did garner some strange looks at the race that I wore them to, but none the less, they are extremely comfortable for running in. I recommend them highly.

By:

Although I'm a runner, I got these mainly for skiing because I strain my adductors and VMOs pretty regularly, and my PT suggested them. They inhibit proper form in the bumps if you're a serious skier so I wouldn't suggest them for that. I have run with them and they felt pretty good, but I didn't notice any huge effects. Too hot for summer running. I'll try them next season on tele-skis.

I got these tights to help support my legs while snowboarding, and I can happily say they really work! Living in Indianapolis I don't get a chance to keep my legs in mountain shape, so when I do get to ride, I want to make the most of it.

I used to have to leave my friends after a 1/2 day of riding because I couldn't keep up for a whole day, but these babies give me the muscle support and compression I need to keep on going.

Highly recommended.

Cool tights

By:
February 23, 2007

I have worn the tights on a couple of 5-8 mile runs. They fit really snug which was supposed to be the idea so that was cool. On the first run it seemed like the waist kept wanting to creep down which was annoying. Anyhow on the second run either they had loosened up a little in the wash or maybe I had the lower leg/knee area pulled up higher but they were just fine. I like the way they feel, lots of support. They look kind of cool too. I haven't tried them on the bike yet but I think they will be good. I would definitely buy them again.

My husband is a runner, but also a strength and conditioning coach, as well as a certified athletic trainer. I ordered the tights for him, and he was so impressed with their performance that he is going to recommend them for athletes who are recovering from injury, or those with chronic muscle difficulties. He said they could make a huge difference in an athlete getting back into their sport quicker after an injury. I have also purchased the insulated CW-X tights and the criss-cross shirt for him. All GREAT products!

Poorly Placed Seams

By: Backcountry.com Employee
November 18, 2008

The CW-X Expert Tights are ok. They definitely work with their function and they do support muscles well. I don't know how much joint support they provide but they definitely provide support to your quads in particular. The main complaint that I have with these is the way they are stitched. The seams on the inside are quite overdone and poorly placed. I found chafing after only a 5 mile run. I really can't imagine what they would be like for a longer run. I do wear them under my bike shorts for late season mountain biking and they work well for this need. I debated between these and the insulator and I am glad that I went with these. I tend to be warm any way particularly during aerobic workouts and these work well for temps down to the mid 20s. The Insulated might be a bit much for all but the coldest temps.

I think that these tights out of the package were great. I ran a 6 mile loop with no issues and tons of support. Right before the run I started to have spasms in the front of my knee. I put the tights on and they stopped. The only thing that stinks is that they lose their resiliency after being washed 2x. Too expensive to buy another pair.
