CW-X 3/4 Length Stabilyx Tight - Women's

CWX designed the Women’s ¾ Length Stabilyx Tight with the support commonly reserved for folks with muscle and joint injuries. Their logic is, quite sensibly, that an ounce of prevention avoids a ton of physical therapy. (And really, who enjoys those appointments?) CW-X’s patented Conditioning Web supports each muscle group in your leg and holds your knee steadily in place. Extra support at the waistband lends a little extra power to your lower back and core muscles. And fortunately, even when the temps start testing your sweat glands, the CWX Stabilyx Tight’s Coolmax fabric speedily wicks away excess moisture. Rather than feeling damp and overheated, you’re free to focus on your run.

Bottom Line: Stability is integral to performance, so put on the Stabilyx.

Best Running Tights Ever

By:
November 9, 2008

I recently suffered tendonitis in my knee and bought these tights for extra support during a race. These tights gave me the best support everywhere and I actually think they help me to run faster. Highly recommended.

I'm in love...

By:
November 20, 2009

I second nearly everyone else who has reviewed these pants in testifying that they are the second most important item in my set of running gear, second only to my shoes. These pants are GREAT. I know they're on the pricey side, but TRUST me, they are worth every penny. My only regret is that I did not invest in a pair sooner. I highly recommend these for the invested/committed runner.

Also, if anyone is wondering what size to get, get the bigger size. I was worried with the size I ordered because I thought they might swallow me up, but when I pulled my pants out of the package, I wanted to cry looking at them because I thought there was NO way I was going to squeeze my 5'10, 140 lb self into them. Even with the large, it looked like my 8 year old cousin might not even fit into them. But when I tried them on, they fit perfectly, like a second layer of skin (if I can say that without sounding gross- I just mean they felt completely comfortable and natural).

Get invested... and respect the distance! Thank you Backcountry!!

I am 5'9 and 126 lbs so I fall in between height for medium but weight for small. Does anybody have this experience and which size did you go with? I once bought medium tights and they ended up falling off but I am not sure what to do here.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks

That's a tough question. I fall between the medium and large, and I originally purchased the medium. I thought they were too tight, so I exchanged them for large. Now I think maybe I should have stuck with the mediums. They are compression, so they are supposed to be tight. I think maybe you should go with the weight because the height doesn't matter as much. It's okay if these are a little short on you. Good luck and happy running!

After the race!

By:
March 31, 2009

2009 Foggy Bottoms Race -Ferndale, CA
This was my first race wearing my new CW's and they were excellent. A little hard to get on (I had to read the instructions) but then they are compression tights. The support made my legs feel like I could go on running even after the race, less stiffness the next day. I recommend them to everyone regardless of age or ability. I will buy more......

Best of CW-X

By:
February 23, 2009

CW-X makes the nicest running tights and shorts and the Stabilyx 3/4 length is the best of all of them (I own 5 different styles). What I like about the Stabilyx 3/4 length is that I can run longer distances in the heat while still having the hip, IT band and knee protection.

You might expect them to tear easily, but they are very hardy. I've fallen on fast downhills a couple of times and only had to brush the dirt and burrs off. My knees underneath were an entirely different story though! If I had been wearing traditional or even CW-X shorts I would have had much more serious injuries.

They also dry quickly which is nice since I only have one in this style. If you wash it by hand immediately after use and hang dry, it will be dry within about 24 hours; sooner if you are drying it during the day instead of overnight.

Great Pair of Tights!

By:
November 15, 2009

I bought these at last minute for the Chicago marathon in October since the temperature dipped and I thought I'd freeze in my usual shorts. I've never worn tights before but was very pleased with these. They felt great on and I usually start to experience some knee pain on my long runs but didn't have any issues during the entire race with these.

I have two complaints. One, the fabric around the knees starts to bunch up --and fairly quickly. I'm 5'9 so it could be a height issue; not sure. Second, these did not transfer sweat the way I would have hoped as I looked like I had peed my pants from the line of butt sweat (sorry TMI!) --and that happened within the first five miles!

Tighty-tights

By:
March 31, 2009

Woot! These are great! Once you get yourself in them (which can be a bit of struggle till you get a system sorted out)everything stay puts. I felt very secure in them and noticed a difference right away. I wear them for trail running and skiing. The 3/4 length is perfect since they stop just short of the top of my boot. There is a definite decrease in muscle fatigue, I ski/run longer/faster when I'm wearing these bad boys. There is an inside key pocket at the waist, but with how tight these are not sure how comfy a key would be sitting there.

With your knee/calf issues I would highly recommend getting the CW-X Ventilator Tights, the Ventilator conditioning web design supports the muscles and ligaments around the knee joint, and offers gentle support to the calf muscles. Size wise your right in the middle of small/medium, the medium may be a better fit but use your own discretion accordingly.

Great knee support

By:
February 23, 2009

Got these to help with my knees since I'm training for a half marathon. They help out on my long runs and my knees feels great the next day. I was in the grey area between small and med...got the small, should have gotten the med...I'm squeezing myself into the smalls (5'7", 135lbs)

Cw-x Junkie

By:
June 19, 2009

These are my third pair of CW-X's and I really like the 3/4 length (I have both the short and long tights). With a torn ACL, my left knee is unstable and the tights definitely takes that instability out. I can train longer as compared to my regular running shorts. Plus they make my butt look awesome!

the jury is still out

By:
March 23, 2009

I bought these because I need all the support in all the places they offer and read all the great things in the other reviews. I do triathlons and half marathons and am training for a full. I have pain in both knees (new this season), pain in hips(old news) and just lots instability. I have ran several long runs in them and while they did help support my knees and hips I still had lots of leg aches toward the end of the run. Maybe I am just going to always hurt. I figure if nothing else they do provide excellent support, but am waiting for the "wow" yet.

For the aches, perhaps your shoes or insoles need a look ... just a thought.

DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!! @//*_*\\@

By:
November 4, 2009

I've had knee surgery, shinsplints, groin strain etc. etc. from years of running! I am now 41 and just ran my 2nd marathon last week in these tights! They are THE MOST AMAZING piece of kit I own. They aren't available in Ireland [or UK as far as I know] so I bought online from backcountry.com. Now, all I want is 6 more of them! I hate having to train in anything else because they definitely add spring to my step. My knees feel great! I am 5feet 10 and would advise the medium. If you are even considering these tights, I would URGE you to buy them. Absolutely brilliant! Just do it!!

I bought the CW-X 3/4 Length StabilyX Tight based on my friend's recommendation as I was consistently experiencing knee pain from skiing four times a week.

The 3/4 length was just right for me because the tights do not overlap with my ski socks.

I was not sure which size to get, but based on the chart, purchased the XS - I am 5'2", 112 lbs. It was the right size.

I was amazed at how they make a huge difference - I no longer experience the knee fatigue while I still ski just as much. While it is pricey, I'd say this is a must item for runners, skiers, especially for 'mature' people to control the stress on their knees.

Ski Spanx

These tights provide decent compression around the knee and hip area. 3/4 length is also a plus for skiing so tights don't interfere with boot fit.

Nothing out there that will match CW-X tights!

By:
March 30, 2009

The CW-X tights are great! Wonderful support for the knees especially. I got them because of pain I've been experiencing in my hips and knees also as I read from another persons review. I've discovered that my pain is coming from a bulging disk in my back, and while the tights won't be cureing that, they do give great support. I love them. WISHING the company would use an extra inch of material all the way around and make them in a Woman's XL though, because I'm right on the border line in height and weight and would really feel more comfortable in a size larger.

Hoping for a miracle.

By:
March 25, 2009

Love the way they look, and love the way they feel. Sadly, however they do not make me run faster. If you are looking, as I was, for a garment that allows you to peel minutes off your time, run forever and nary break a sweat you will be disappointed. If you're looking for a great feeling tight, that makes you LOOK like your a speed demon, these are for you!

Love the Tights

By: Backcountry.com Employee

I bought these tights for running, but have used them for skiing too. Great compression and support around the knees and lower back. Wash well. i tend to overheat so so I wear them for winter running, even though they are 3/4. This is by far my favorite style of CW-X.
