This Columbia River Knife and Tool sharpening system comes with two nylon sharpening guides—one for kitchen and sport knives, and one for blades requiring a steeper sharpening angle like hatchets and machetes. To set up the Slide Sharp system, simply insert the rod in the base, slide a return spring over it, select the sharpening guide needed for your knife, and slide on the cap. Each time you slide your knife blade through the guide, the guide travels down the rod and sharpens your knife against the porcelain rod. The return spring then pops the guide up for the next stroke. The sharpening guide maintains the edge angle—there's no guessing, no rounded edges, and no loss of blade shape from oversharpening.
