You won't find bells and whistles here—the CRKT Point Guard Knife is slim and trim. The Point Guard's handle is just big enough for your hand and features a rounded back for a comfortable grip—no matter the size of your hand. Friction grooves at the top rear of the handle allow you to use the 2.625-inch stainless steel blade with accuracy and control in both natural and reverse grips. An ambidextrous thumb disk makes this small utility knife easy to open with either hand. Teflon bearings create a smooth and consistent motion, and a LAWKS safety mechanism ensures a virtual fixed blade.
Bottom Line: Like a good point guard, this CRKT knife is small, fast, and can do nearly everything.
This is a great simple knife. As the description says no bells and whistles. The blade has a thumb stud. It isnt spring assisted, but it isnt that difficult to open it with one hand. It does take a little bit getting used to but with a little practice you'll be flicking this knife open quickly. This knife wont open up if you drop it. I did test it by dropping it on my floor from about shoulder height a few times. Blade stays in its place when folded. It might get loose after being opened a lot over time, but for now I'm not worried about it accidentally opening up. Knife feels solid, nice smooth opening action. Handle is solid and feels comfortable to hold in my hand. Has a pretty good weight to it, fairly well balanced. Has the LAWKs system so this folding knife can be locked into a fixed position for those times when your a little bit of excessive force on the knife. Knife has a built in clip so you can clip it onto your belt or wherever you feel like clipping it. Word of caution, this knife is really sharp. Was running my thumb lightly across the blade a few times back and forth and before I knew it I drew some blood. Didnt realize it actually cut my thumb until the blood starting coming out a few mins later.
This is a great knife, and for its price you really cant complain. If your looking for a knife just to have around when you need it and need something cheap take a look at this one.
I picked up the knife for primarily camping/outdoor and around the house purposes. From the onset I was impressed. My initial test of the knife came during our move from Las Vegas to Denver. I used the the knife to cut 1/4 inch cord, twine and other materials. At first I was surprised at how easily the blade passed through the cord. It was like the flick of a wrist. Also, I felt like I had a handle of substance in my hand, nothing flimsy or fragile. I've yet to get the knife outdoors but my expectations are high.
This is a knife with no frills. It uses the CRKT LAWKS system to lock the blade in an opened position. I recommend getting the 3.5" version. That's what I got, and I think it's the perfect length. All in all, this knife is a sturdy, sharp, good quality knife. If I find an excuse to get another knife, it'll definitely be a CRKT.
Good knife, good price, keeps an edge and does what you want it to. The large version seems to have a disproportionate amount of handle for the size of the blade, making it a little unwieldy, but still a good choice.
This is a fantastic knife! The price (on SAC) was unbeatable. The construction and design of this folder really is amazing. It is very lightweight and looks super BA. My only reservation is that the assisted opening is very weak (at least compared to other knives). It doesn't matter though because the blade moves well enough that you can just flick it open in one quick, fluid motion anyway. Overall, sweet knife... I just bought my fourth one from SAC :)
decent. like other people say, for the price it's not to be missed. The knife it's self is pretty solid, nice locking mechanism, not assisted like it says and very nice grip. Fits very nice into my huge hands and is very well balanced for it's price range as well. Comes really sharp, and after using it a bunch it wasn't hard to get it just as sharp with a good sharpener. I would have liked it to have assisted opening like it said, but it's still decent. Push the stud with your thumb, and flick it open. Still opens quite quick, and you get a nice snappy sound as a bonus! Bottom line, buy it.
This knife is great for everyday use. The edge stays sharp for quite a while and the size is perfect. I haven't found anything to complain about! Picked it up for supercheap on SAC and haven't looked back.
Incredibly sharp, compact, and solid. I keep it with me all the time (probably one of the few girls around who carries a knife with her in her purse 'just in case').
I have 10 knives and this is the best knife and I have custom knife from bench and other;s . this is, for the money head and shoulders above most. Nice thick blade and stays sharp.
This knife is as close to perfect as they get. First of all the price is great. The quality of the knife is evident when you open it, smooth. When opened it is a well balanced knife, the blade is razor sharp. The only bad thing about the Point Guard knife is CRKT quit making this knife. So if you want a great knife, get this one while you still can.
damn good price, i just wanted a blade to replace the one ive had for ten years, this thing is perfect. oh and fuck ya to SAC, i chose the cheap shipping option, supposedly shipped within 10-15 days, well it showed up at my door in less than 48 hours. if youre thinking about this knife, just buy it, you wont be disappointed.
I bought this knife in '01 and have loved it. Very light. I own a couple of more expensive knives that are by all accounts nicer, but this is the one that I take with me on a daily basis. Blade has held its edge well. I think one of the reasons I like this knife so much and use it so much is a combination of it working so well, and the price being right where I'm not afraid of ruining it and having to pay a lot to replace it -- which after 8 or so years I never have had to.
For the price, I couldn't pass it up. I agree with the previous review though - it's not so much assisted, more convenient to open with two hands. The knife came extremely sharp and after about 4 trips seems to be holding its own. The locking mechanism is very solid but may be too difficult for some users to close. Overall good quality knife though.
I picked up two of these knives for under $20 each on steepandcheap a few weeks as gifts for my brother and dad. When I got them in the mail I decided my dad would have to settle for something else for Christmas. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the knife, the sharpness of the blade and the ease of use. The open-assist mechanism makes it easy to open one-handed with EITHER hand, which I know is a big sticking point for lefties. I carry this with me everywhere I go and use it whenever I get the chance. After using it, I know would have gladly paid twice what I did for another.
The smaller, 2.625 inch, CRKT is a great knife for the money. It's light enough to carry in the pocket of dress pants and agile enough to open quickly for daily needs. So far, it's kept a very sharp edge with light daily use.
I haven't had a chance to put this knife to any real tests, but I can say that it is very solid to hold, and totally looks B.A. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it for the first time that it had an open-assisting mechanism, which gives a nice >flick< sound when you pop it open. The price was also superb (saw it in a store for $50), and it came to me razor-sharp. A great knife for a great price, and definitely worth it at around $31 (after shipping+tax).
It was a gift to my brother but he loves it and said it's the nicest knife he's ever owned. That may not tell you much - he's a telemarker from Durango.
This is a solid knife. Do not be fooled into thinking you are getting an assisted opening knife at a great price. This knife has a thumb stud, period. I have complained more than once about this as I have purchases knives twice now from SAC that claimed to be AO but were not. I always check the CRKT site first now.
