Today is warmer than you expected, and if you had worn a regular insulated jacket to the ski hill, you’d be overheating right now. But you were smart and wore the three-in-one Columbia Men’s Glacier To Glade Parka. The insulating liner snaps out, so you can take it back to the car and sport just the waterproof breathable shell. Undo the Underarm zips if you’re still too hot. Yet, when winter is at its worst, the shell-and-liner combo ensures you don’t freeze solid while riding the chairlift. Wear the liner by itself on cold, dry days at the resort for less bulk without sacrificing warmth.
Bottom Line: You like having options when you’re on the mountain.
Ok so i just got the coat yesterday..and it looks great and is very warm...but there was a lil miss information when i bought it... the liner was supposed to be zip in.. and wasn't. which is very annoying...who wants to zip two zippers each time..and i'm a little worried about the zipper construction. very small teeth.. but i'm no expert so that could be a good thing. Overall could be a GREAT coat, just not what i'm looking for
The jacket looks good & is lightweight. But the inner liner only attaches to the outer shell at the wrists. It's a pain to have to zip up 2 zippers each time you use the jacket. Also the zipper teeth on the outer shell are very small. I have my doubts that the zipper will survive more than a year or 2.
Chat with a gearhead and ask about when they might be getting that size and color in stock. They can normally help out with looking into things like that for you.
Excellent jacket so far. Even gets comments from strangers. I got the off-white with burnt orange and the white part of course gets dirty easily, but it also cleans easily. Doesn't look like it will keep me toasty below zero, but there's room for more layers underneath. The drawstring on the hood is the best design I've seen so far, and the little visor flap on the hood is an added bonus. I'm a borderline medium/large, and the medium was too small, large is fine. For all it's warmth and protection it's pretty light.
What the difference between this one and "Clacier to Glade Short Shell" (http://www.backcountry.com/store/COL1566/Columbia-Glacier-To-Glade-Softshell-Jacket-Mens.html)?
The other jacket that you found is just the shell of this jacket... When an item is the "parka" it also includes the liner for added insulation to the shell. The shell by itself has the snap/zip in compatibility with other Columbia liners, but does not include one. This parka right here comes with a synthetic fill liner...
Luk this is in my opinion a very good coat. I don't think you have been misinformed as you can celarly see from the pics that there is no internal zipper. In anz case I tell you why this is not a bad thing. First the shell material is Gore-tex XCR this is a more technical (lighter and more water proof) version of gore-tex. You won't find any gore tex XCR with internal zippers in the market the material just doesn't allow it. second having no internal zippers saves considerable weight and this is a big concern for mountaineers. I have the Peak to creek parka which is basically a more primitive model of this jacket. Before I had a Columbia ballistic jacket with zip-in liner and I quickly got use to the new system. Oh and the small teeth in the zipper are quite durable. Columbia basically corrected all shortcomings when renaming the jacket glacier to glade rather than peak to creek.
The jacket has excellent water proof qualities and is made of very good materials; however, the main zipper is exposed to water leakage and the two large zippers for goggles are very stiff to operate. The main dissapointment I had with this jacket is that there is no zipper or anthing for that matter to attach the inner liner to the jacket.
