When you left your house for the slopes it was colder than a polar bear’s toenail. Now it’s snowing. In an hour it might be sunny. No worries though, because you’re wearing the Columbia Men’s Blade Run Parka. This three-in-one jacket has your back throughout the day and the entire snow season. The water-resistant shell’s zip-off hood reduces bulk, and Underarm zips circulate air so you can enjoy wearing just the shell on spring days. The removable fleece liner adds warmth in the winter, while goggle and security pockets in the shell hold your slope essentials.
Had the jacket about 2 weeks and today was the first really windy and cold day of the season. It did a great job of blocking out and icy wind. Not sure if I am fond of the way the inner section's cuffs grip the wrists, but it's probably a matter of getting used to. Jacket is light and easy to zip up.
I have to order a parka for a trip this summer to theNorth Cascades National Park, They told us to order a PARKA , however i am having trouble with what a parka really is. I live in Florida, so it is kinda difficult to just go to the store for one. Does this jacket fall under the qualifications of "parka". I need this piece of gear to be right because im going to be up there for 9 days. And they asked for the parka to be either "down" or " synthetic".... does this qualify as synthetic, if not, then what is??
Parka actually referes more to the fact that the jacket is insulated in someway. Without insulation the jacket would be referred to as a shell. Columbia has great parkas in the sens ethat we specialize in the interchange technology which allows you to effectively have 3 coats in one as you can remove the liner to wear seperately from the shell or combine them for ultimate warmth and weather proofness. This parka is one of our most popular and would suit your needs and the description of the gear needed for your trip. Enjoy!
haha hello JD, in my experience "parka" is just a fancy word for a jacket with extended length, so they have better protection and insulation values....and as for the insulation, this is synthetic...sythetic and down are the only two type of insulation. "down" is when the jacket is insulated essientialy with bird feathers, and "sythetic" is when the jacket is insulated with engineered fabrics or materials.
for a great compairison guide of Down VS. Synthetic go here: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/down-v-synthetic-guide.html
im a fan of synthetic, and this jacket IS a parka and is very warm, probably what you are looking for. -hope this helps
I thought it could be warmer. I was still cold in the back and chest when it got down in the teens. There was enough room for an added layer so it was acceptable. I am a big guy and the armpit fittings were a little snug and the waist a little loose. If I wore an additonal layer the armpit location felt too constricting. Also if I were to raise my hands over my head, there was not enough play there to be comfortable. NOW after saying all that, I thought the parka was GREAT and did its job.
This jacket is extremely warm and I find that I can check the mail, run groceries and head to the gym with just a T-shirt underneath even when the weather is -10 outside. My only complaint is that I got the white and orange colour and it stains very easily. So...pick a dark colour!
First off, these are two completely different jackets. The Oracle is more waterproof, but the Blade Runner is more insulated (obviously, since it contains a removable fleece). Both are good for different uses, but neither is the best in its respected category. If you're looking for a ski/snowboard jacket (like the Blade Runner), you'd be better off getting something from TNF, Marmot, etc. that is made of Gore-Tex, especially if you are looking for maximum waterproofing. Then you can purchase a less expensive midlayer fleece for insulation. I find that it is most important to have a good outer shell, because it is the only thing keeping you dry, whereas it is easy to add more baselayers in order to keep warm. If you are looking for more of just an outdoor jacket (like the Oracle), there are a lot of good choices from a lot of different makers. Just make sure you know what you want.
Columbia is awesome. The jacket is super warm and durable. Many pockets. Inside liner removes easily and also looks and fits great! I live in Buffalo, NY so this jacket is a must. We had 50MPH snow storms last week and only part of me that was cold was my legs! couldnt feel any wind breaking through jacket! LOVE IT. Any Columbia product is worth any price tag. 10/10. 5 Stars
Got this coat for my husband. He loves it. He says it's really warm but not too heavy and great for all the elements. He really likes how the inside liner can be removed from the shell and he can just wear the shell on warmer days. Great coat and great price.
Overall I love the jacket... nice and warm, definitely water/snow/proof, and the inner lying is very comfy. As for my complaints, the "red pepper" description is deceiving -- perhaps should be renamed "slightly obnoxious pumpkin-orange". The jacket also seems to stain easily, but so far everything has come out with a little effort (including an dark grease spot... little dawn did the trick).
Very warm jacket and easy to get inside liner jacket in and out. Color kind of boring (grey/brownish-grey color), but hopefully it will not show a lot of dirt. Hood nice and deep with and overhang so keeps out weather.
