The removable, insulated liner in the Columbia Women's Whirlibird Parka gives you layering options whether it remains nose-hair-freezing on the ski slopes or the sun comes out. When the wind blows, pull up the detachable hood and hunker down on the chairlift. After a few warm-up laps, open the Underarm zips and let some cool air in, and if you get really warm, shed either the outer shell or the liner. A powder skirt blocks snow on waist-deep, floaty days, and interior mesh pockets hold snacks.
Does the liner in this jacket zip in or button in? In the description it says it does both, so which one is it? Also does the liner have any pockets on the inside?
After much studying, I bought this whirlibird XL. I wanted mostly black to match my N.F. pants, but wanted a bit of color too. Yes, be aware that the black has a narrow piece of dark brown between the black & white. It blends into the black & is barely noticable. I was looking @ them on Lowcountry.com. They have this "chat" where you can ask questions like, "what color is that on.. is it all black?" & they will tell you exactly what colors there are on the jackets. Too bad they did not have one in an XL, so I found it on amazon.com. It arrived in good shape in 5 days, even though they say up to 10 days for free ground. The inner lining or shell is zipped in & detachable, but is white nylon. It keeps me very warm but I would not where it by it's self. ( my preference!) Outer jacket is much softer than some, zippers every where, almost covers my rear, snow skirt, zip pits, detachable hood, but not zippered, but snap ons, but works for me. Two outer pockets & to my surprise, 3 inner packets on the outer shell. I bought it to ski in mountains of NC, Sugar, Beech, etc, good for around freezing, so far so good. There were no surprises & I am very happy with it. The color changes from black to brown & then to white curving in slightly @ the waist, hence quite slimming I think. I bought a columbia Benton fleece but it does not zip in ( the "teeth" don't match up) but I still wore my fleece underneath with great results.. sooo warm. I don't know about below freezing temps because it hasn't happened yet... I hope this helps! Michele W
ON CHANNEL 2 NEWS, THE WEATHER REPORTERS WEAR A COLUMBIA COAT THAT IS ROYAL BLUE (MY FAVORITE COLOR)WITH BLACK.I AM INTERRESTED IN FINDING A COLUMBIACOAT LIKE THE ONES THEY WEAR IN WOMENS OR MENS.THANK YOU SO MUCH!(COLOR IS MOSTLY WHAT I AM INTERRESTED IN, STYLE --SOMETHING SLIMING)
Vicki, First of all, there's no need TO SCREAM. Second of all, this question section is not a realtime chat session/shopping experience; it's a place where interested shoppers can ask questions to passers by or those who have already purchased the clothing and are willing to help poor lost souls. I'd recommend that you click on the "chat now" icon at the top of the page and talk to a bc.com rep. Michele here.. I totally agree with you!
I really love my new parka, and it arrived just in time for Seattle's big snow. I don't ski anymore, but walk miles everyday with my dog. The only thing I don't like is the white stipe by the outside pockets, as they get grimy from getting in the pockets. Can't imagine why they put them there. I kept warm and toasty, and love that the part at the top of the jacket is a soft fabric and very comfy.
I am looking for this jacket in Nulberry in an extra large. We were looking at other Columbia Jackets and found the large a little snug. Does this jacket fit similar to other Columbus styles?
Kathy,Manufacturers are generally consistant with their sizes between products. This jacket is available in XL, however it appears Backcountry is sold out of that size. Michele here, adctually you can find XL & bigger sizes on amazon.com. I bought the black/brown/white one for $130.!!
Sure does. Two for your hands and mesh pockets inside. Michele here, actually it has two mesh pockets & one regular pocket inside the outershell, that makes 5 pockets in all! awesome.
I don't believe it gets any bigger than XL. IF you can't find your size here, try amazon.com women's ski jackets. Also trying going directly to Columbia.com for all sizes.
The sizing chart is the link that says "View Sizing Chart" right under the size/color pulldown menu. And shipping is free for orders over $50, so for this jacket, yes.
