The Chaco Z/2 Unaweep Women's Sandal is perhaps the most secure sandal on the planet. Its Unaweep outsole is 20% lighter than Chaco's previous sandals, and it's ideal for activities that demand solid footing in or out of water. The Z/2 sandal's strap configuration offers an adjustable toe loop that adds a measure of security to your foot, making them incredibly stable. Whether you're a river rat who needs a super grippy sandal or you just want a sturdy, great-looking pair of sandals that will last ages, the Chaco Z/2 Unaweeps will last for years.
Bottom Line: The Chaco Z/2 Unaweep Sandals sturdy your foot like a hiking boot for summer hiking and hanging out.
When wore these sandals for the first few days, it was a constant battle between the toe loop and I. Also, I thought the sandals were a bit heavy. However, after about a week or two I had it all figured out. It just took a little time to get the right fit. Now, I am in love. I have chronic tendinitis in my right foot from an old overuse injury, and these sandals are so supportive that my pain has all but diminished. I will definitely be wearing them all summer long...which in Oregon only lasts three months, but who's counting!
This is my second pair of the chaco z/2 sandal and I just love them. The other pair had been worn for about 4-1/2 summers, from March to October and even some through the winter in the house. They are especially great for my feet because I have a high arch and they have such great arch support. They really helped with my plantar fascitis. I would highly recommend this sandal to anyone. Great fit! Goes with lots of different clothing, shorts, capris, jean, skirts. Worth the money!
Write your question here...I purchased my chaco z/2 black sandals about 9 years ago. I got the big honking sole so I could hike in them. Do you still make these or do you only make one sole now?
Chaco used to make 3 soles, the 'dot' 5.10 Aquastealth, the Colorado cole, and the Terreno (the big honkin' hiker). They just make 2 soles now. The 5.10 Diamond Stealth and the Unaweep (which was meant to combine the Colorado sole and the Terreno sole. The Unaweep is meant to be the dry land/hiker of the two now and is lighter, but thinner than the Terreno.
I have used my chaco's for years - river guiding, hiking, backpacking, etc... never been disappointed. Great to hike in and really good arch support. I wear an 8.5 and can wear either the 8 or the 9 comfortably and happily. I prefer Chaco's with a toe strap - makes me feel more secure when hiking.
I have several pairs of Chacos, and have worn them over 9 years, and I love all of them, but I had to return my most recent pair because the arch on one of the sandals was so much higher than the other. I couldn't believe it, but in comparison with my other pairs it was really obvious. I have also tried on a pair at a store where the arches were slightly uneven, and still bothersome. I still generally love the sandals for the support and comfort, but make sure you check your pair, where them around the house a bit to really verify whether the arches are even.
I love Chacos (I have like 6 pairs), but I can't do the ones with the toe strap. On every pair I have tried, that little strap digs into my toe and it HURTS. No matter how much adjusting I do, it never really helps. My big toes are indeed big, so if you have the same issue, these sandals probably aren't for you. Try the Chaco Z/1 series instead.
Write your question here...A friend was telling me to get the lighter sole. What is the name of the lighter sole? Is it the Vibrant Unaweep? or the Diamond Stealth Sandals? or the Vibram IdroGrip compound used on our PRO model?
I have these and I absolutely love mine! The only thing I do wish is that the heel strap was movable too since I have a narrow heel. And I wish I could get the toe part to losen up a bit more. Otherwise I love them and bought my third pair today. I think someone stole my first pair and today I just bought the hipthong ones. I can't wait to get them!
i have 3 pairs of chaco Z/2s! awesome for walking around town & i wear them hiking all the time. easy clean-just scrub on them in the kitchen sink then air dry. the price is worth it because they last & you can send them to chaco and they will resole them for you. if your feet are even slightly wider than normal, i would recommend finding a wide size. i have small bunions and the wide size fits me much more comfortably. my advice to first time users is wear them for short periods at first till your feet adjust to the feel.
I love these sandals! The Chaco Z/2 Unaweep has become my a new summertime essential for me. I wear them all the time. They are sturdy yet feminine. I feel comfortable wearing them on light hike, on a rocky beach, walking around town, kakaying, etc.. Aesthetically, I feel comfortable wearing them out for a causal dinner and dancing. FYI - they look great with short flirty black skirt. Sometimes the strap needs adjusting but that's very easy to fix.
Does anyone know if there's a substantial difference between the men's and women's Z/2's? Obviously there's color, and size range, but if a men's sandal fit a woman, would the last just completely destroy her delicately gendered foot or something?
Men's sandals are wider. If you have a wide foot, you should be fine. If your foot is narrow, or average for a woman, then it may slide around more, which could lead to blisters.
When I wondered about the new MADE IN CHINA tag on my chacos, this is what I was told by Chaco Help.
Dear Chris, Last summer Chaco laid off the entire production crew and farmed out the last of our American made products to China. Over 100 people lost their jobs. On May 29 the rest of us will be laid off. Chaco has sold to Wolverine Worldwide.
Nobody here was thrilled about moving to China. Nobody here was thrilled about Wolverine buying us. The man quoted in the article, Ed Wieland was let go since those articles were written. So now we are all being let go to join the swelling ranks of the unemployed.
It seems as soon as we outsourced we went down the tubes. Wolverine will keep the Chaco label but the product will be made in China. Chaco will no longer be in Colorado but in Michigan. Thank you for your e-mail. Joe

We do, we all love our Chacos. Who wouldn't? If you're like me, you have more than one epic you could tell while you wearing your Chacos. And chances are, if you bought them before July 2008, you're Chacos were either MADE IN COLORADO, USA, Like mine, or ASSEMBLED WITH PRIDE IN COLORADO USA.
This is no longer true. Chacos are all now MADE IN CHINA.
The sad part about this move is it was all for an extra 5-6 dollars profit.
"According to Wieland, factory to factory the cost to make the sandals will be $10 to $11 less in China than Paonia. With shipping and the import duty of 37-1/2 percent the total savings per pair of sandals will be between $5 and $6."
I had tried these on at a store before I bought them at the much better price on here, so I knew the size would fit right. What I didn't expect though is how comfortable these are on my feet right out of the box - I fiddled with the straps a bit for perfection, but I've worn them non-stop since and haven't gotten any blisters as my feet have adjusted.
Are these the ones made in Colorado or China? I know Chaco has recently started making ones outside the US and supposedly they do not hold up as well :(
I am HORRIBLY disappointed in this company for this. I absolutely love these sandals and was planning to buy more but now am rethinking it. Having been laid off this year as well I understand the impact companies like this have on the working American. I would support whole heartedly and even be willing to pay extra for items from companies refusing to give in to greed and stay in business in this country. Does anyone know of another sandal as good as these made here?
Since July 2008. Made IN CHINA... and all for a measly 5 - 6 dollars!

I no longer plan to purchase Chacos until this changes.

I have Z/2s in Sparrow. If you saw me this summer, I was probably wearing these shoes. Great for camping and hiking, easy on and easy off, but the Chaco footbed offers plenty of support, even for a full day of hiking.
These sandals are probably the most comfortable water shoes i've ever owned! they do run a bit big, i usually wear an 8 and i had to return my first pair for a 7, just a heads up! if you are planning to use these for the river, you've picked the right ones!
well, i've been searching around with several pairs of shoes just trying to make my feet feel good again w/ and w/o inserts nothing was working...then the Chaco z/2 unaweep came into my life and my feet are loving them, no more pains, foot cramps or arch problems. my only wish is that i would have bought these sooner and now if i could only get this same footbed in my work boots...foot comfort heaven
I have wide feet and I love these sandals! They look cool and are super comfy. I bought them to take as my one all-purpose pair of shoes for a Kauai trip - sun, sand, and surf.
There are different soles, here's a few:Unaweep- Non-marking sole w/ Vibram's TC-1 compound. Lightweight and self-cleaning. Diamond Stealth- ultra sticky Stealth Amphibia rubber in wet or dry conditions. Getagrip Butyl- feels like a climbing shoe
I was a little hesitant about buying $100 Chaco sandals for my 12 year old daughter. She has loved them and takes very good care of them. She has wore them to school almost everday with shorts, capris, and jeans. They are her new tennis shoes, she says they are extremely comfortable! I would reccomend Backcountry to anyone who is looking for Chaco's. We had hers sent by UPS and they were here in 2 days!
I bought the black ones in size 10 wide in womens, Thay are the best sandals ever! The arch support is great, I can't wate to go trail hiking in them this summer. I wore them in the shower and that helped break in the straps. Thay dry realy fast, over all this is the most hard core sandal you can buy. If you are in to extreme water sports or go hiking and have to cross a river or creek this is what you want to buy best $75.00 bucks you'll ever spend!
I rated these shoes as a 5 because my sister-in-law has them and LOVES them, which is why I tried them. I have flat feet and after wearing them around the house for awhile I realized I couldn't keep them. I was incredibly disappointed that I couldn't make them work. I loved everything else about them and if I didn't have flat feet I would have been wearing them as often as possible. This site was GREAT to work with on the return.
I tried these on at the store and liked them, but the first time I wore them I cut my feet to bits and the toe-straps strangled my big toes. The fourth time I wore them I loved them.
Here's my biggest tip: tighten the straps to the tightness that seems intuitive, them give the straps an extra half inch to and inch. Since I've done that, and put band-aids on the top inside edge of my foot where the straps cross, these shoes have been great. I love the zebra aqua color! I can't wait to wear them hiking or canoeing, instead of just out on errands.
I am looking for a pair of Z/2 chacos, size 10 that have a terenno sole and have a gecko on the side. I don't mind if they're somewhat used, I just feel like chaco is selling out a little and i swear by the old school. My email is kcunnung@utk.edu, thanks so much.
I am a Chaco fan, and I am just as pleased with the newer sole, Unaweep, as I was with the older style Colorado and Terreno soles. The Unaweep sole is lighter than the Terreno, and you can definitely appreciate the difference when hiking all day. I agree with some of the other postings that the toe strap of the Z2 and ZX2 tightens a bit when new. I found if I keep the other main section of the strap near the buckle slightly more loose, the toe strap doesn't tighten as much. After a while, the toe strap seems to stay more in place, and doesn't keep tightening. The strap patterns are great, the one I bought, Twiggy, is more unusual in its random looking design. I haven't seen anyone else with it yet...
These are the ultimate shoe to wear hiking, boating, to the gym, to relax, and even to sleep in. Thats right, these were so comfortable that when I was camping, I actually fell asleep in the tent with these on (I was only woken up by my boyfriend yelling that I got dirt all over the tent...oops). They are the greatest!
They hold up for years, they conform to your foot (make sure you've got the straps the way you like them before too long, they will stay that way) and they show that you are a true river-dweller: none of those wal-mart brand tevas for you.
The crazy tan line will only further illustrate your devotion to all things outdoors. Rock it.
I was leary about getting these sandals since the straps are a bit different from what I'm used to, but I'm glad I did. They are extremely comfortable and very supportive. I can wear them to run errands or to go hiking. Definitely a good purchase.
There is a new craze sweeping the central desert of Australia Alice Springs is fast becoming the home of Chacos! Have climbed a few big rocky hills and run amok out bush and they are bloody comfy rocking shoes. Thanks!
Chacos are fantastic. I already own several Chaco Z/2s. I was looking to add to my existing collection with what I thought was a butterscotch color (Marigold Limited). When it arrived, it was more of an orange. This is still a great color, but not one that looked good with my skin.
I think these sandals are *wonderful*! The arch support is excellent; the wide size fits my foot perfectly. The toe loop offers great extra support. They are my favorite summer shoe!
Just one issue I'm having, not sure if it'll get better as I break them in or not. The strap on the toe gets tighter and tighter as I walk throughout the day so I am still constantly adjusting the straps. The footbed is really comfortable and stiff enough to go out hiking in. I wanted the Z/2 because I like the extra support of a toe strap, but I think I would recommend buying the Z/1.
These sandals were one of the best investments I have ever made. I wore them for six weeks backpacking Europe and the UK and not once were my feet uncomfortable!
The staff was helpful when I was confused about the size available. The package arrived on time and neatly packed. The adjustable straps are the best part of the deal. I can tighten it or keep it loose depending on the comfort level. The arc of my foot is well supported by the bend in the soul. My husband has demanded that I buy one fir him as well. Intend to buy one for my sister too. Comfortable yet trendy! A tad bit expensive compared too many outdoor foot wears though! But it's nice (can't buy more than one in a while). Thank you, Harshi
I recently purchased a pair of Z/2's. I have been wearing them around the house and to the store to break them in and find that overall they are comfortable but have come across one little problem. The strap seems to slide easily and tighten on my toe while walking. I called the Chaco Customer Service and she told me that they soak the straps in something that makes them smooth. What I need to do is slather the straps in Simple Green then wash the whole sandal w/a load of jeans and let them dry. I will do this since I have a river hiking trip planned in 2 weeks but it seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a pair of brand new sandals.
Z/2 Unaweep Sandal - Women's. I just bought my first pair of Chacos and I am sold hands down. There is a learning curve with getting the strap just right and it needs tweaked every now and then but the sandals are fantastic. After I bought mine I went to visit my son who is a river guide in Glenwood Springs, Co. and found out he just sent a pair in for resoling, He swears by Chacos, and his girlfriend has several pairs too. I have gone hiking on gravel, over big wet rocks on the coast, in sand and never a slip. I feel very sure footed in my shoes. And I love the red color. My boyfriend is envious of the red. His are your basic black Chacos. All in all a great shoe, worth every penny. I will be getting more in different styles. Julie Hadley, Travel Nurse
Chacos = Summer camp counselor's best friend. I can wear them for EVERTYHING! They spread through the staff like wildfire, and new pairs show up every weekend. Solved the blisters from boots, and the knee/back problems from wearing cheap-o sandals. Amazing. Plus, available in wide sizes for even my Flintstone feet! Love love love them!
...I was just sure these would be the bomb - I wanted a good shoe for hiking that wouldn't skwish my toes and rub blisters on my heels - these looked darn near perfect, what with the open toe and fully adjustable everything. I was willing to overlook the weight issue - light they are not - as everything else seemed fine. but once I got them, they were just killers - the right foot was ok, sorta, the left foot was awful - the arch support extended to well under the ball of my foot and did just awful things to my foot posture and comfort, and these are not cork footbeds that adapt, but rigid footbeds that are going to support your foot No Matter What. my arches are high, supple and strong and the last thing I want to do is screw them up, so I had to send back these beauties. I kept them here for a couple of weeks, just looking at them, feeling pretty sad, and put them on and wince and go back to looking at them, but I can't afford to keep shoes I can't wear, no matter how swell they are, so I traded them for some kinda mini-watch-altimeter which probably won't bother my arches so much. BTW, the toe strap, well, I thought it was great - I loved the control.
I found the perfect pair of Chacos here. they were exactly what I wanted and they arrived on the exact date they said they would, and the Chaco's were a good price!
My son and I recently bought these shoes for river running and hiking. They are great. They are so comfortable. They adjust well to your foot and are not heavy. I would highly recommend these to my friends.
After doing some research I purchased my 1st pair of Chacos. After adjusting the straps appropriately they were eay to slip on and super comfortable. I have worn them walking and hiking. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.
got my first pair of these after reading the reviews, pulled them out of the box and on to my feet and hit the streets of Tokyo to show some friends around. They were so comfortable - usually after a day in Tokyo my feet are killing me. I can't wait to get these out of the city - I'm a convert.
This is my second pair of chacos. I have to admit that the z2 is a lot more comfortable that the z/x 2. Also, the first pair I got were one size too big, once i got the new pair in the correct size, they were even more comfortable than the first. they provide a lot of support. They hold up really well for white water rafting, hiking, and even some rock climbing.
i like the color (basil) and the apparent durability of these sandals, but i have to say they take some breaking in... i've worn them for a week and have blisters (more like small cuts, from rubbing) on both big toes, where the toe loop and strap cross. perhaps the ones without toe loops would've been more comfortable...
these sandals are really great and i love how secure they are. the arch support takes some getting used to, and with the diamond pattern on the sole still kinda fresh they start to get really uncomfortable after a while. and the toe strap still tightens, so i'm constantly adjusting it. i tried wearing these as much as possible to break them in, but with my huge feet they look ridiculous with jeans. they're waaaay cuter if you have smaller feet.
Great sandal. Functional, comfortable and can really take a beating. I have owned a few pairs of Chaco sandals. My first pair I bought six years ago and am still wearing them. It may seem like an expensive investment, but the reality of it is you can wear them for years and they are well worth the money. I spent an entire summer in my first pair (worked outside and wore them every single day) and they still look good. Overall I'm a huge Chaco fan and would recommend them to anyone.
I love my new sandals. The only thing that I am still getting used to is the toe strap. My big toes tend to ache when I wear them for a long time. I love the color as well.
This is my first pair of Chacos, and I made the mistake of wearing them right off the bat to an all day excursion at Six Flags. My feet were pretty torn up by the end of the day, but as I have several friends who swear by these things, I've continued wearing them. I love the support they give my feet, but agree that the toe strap takes some getting used to.
These shoes may seem pricey but they last for years.I like the toe strap (they feel more secure when hiking) and the color in blue make them a little more girly. I got them really soon after ordering and wear them all the time.
I purchased two pairs of Chaco Sandals mens Z/1 and womens Z/2. They are both great sandals. The adjustments on both seem to not be staying in the same position like the older pairs of Chacos that I have, and need to be readjusted daily when in hard usea minor inconvenience, but one just the same.
I think you really have to try them on and wear them for a bit. I need an arch support but not one that slopes so far forward to under my toe. I wish I could like these as they seem to really stay on well. The diamond patterns rubbed on my foot and was not comfortable...maybe this would have gotten smoother over time. I think these work for a lot of folks, which is great, but not me. I also tried the wides but they fit very differently than the regulars. They are cute though!
I was a little weary of buying a pair of Chacos online, but they were very true to size and unbelievably comfortable. It did take awhile to get them adjusted, but once I did, they were wonderful. I had no problems with blisters or tightening around my toe that I have read about in other reviews. So far, wonderful shoes!
These sandals are the best! I now have two pairs. I wear them everyday in the summer and for the majority of the spring and fall. I would recommend them to anyone. Also they are great for rafting, canoeing, and hiking!
my chacos that i ordered are my favorite shoes to wear. they're very comfortable, fit nicely, and i love the design on them. they were also reasonably-priced.
Who doesn't love the Chaco? Actually, it took me a little while to get used to these sandals but now I love them. they conform to your foot so well that I wasn't used to it. Anyway, I wore it on a river trip last weekend and was so impressed with the performance. In fact, I didn't even notice that I had them on. Which is a good thing when you are on a river trip. I never worried about them falling off or dragging me under when I was swimming. In fact, I only noticed them when I got sand under my arch when I was walking on the beach. They fit really true to size and are good for just about anything, especially the water.
I love my sandals. The first time I wore was on a river trip and they passed the quality test. I am usually really hard on my sandals. walking in quick sand can make straps break really fast, but these sandals were great. They fit true to size.
As a river guide, I need a secure shoe, that has grip. The Z/2 Chaco, and all the other Chacos have great grip. I love the toe loop, helps keep my foot down on the footbed keeping me from getting sticks and what not between the sandal and my foot. I've been running, hiking and swimming in these, and they never feel like they are going to fall off.
