Chaco Hipthong Sandal - Men's - 2007

The Chaco Men's Hipthong sandal unites fixed straps in the forefoot with pull-through adjustability over the instep, making it nimble and very secure. Slip your sandals on when you leave your tent, and then tighten the strap when you wade into the lake. Chaco gave this hybrid flip-flop/performance sandal their smooth Colorado sole and a lightweight footbed with foot-cradling support. The Hipthong sandal makes a great traveling shoe or amphibious summer camping sandal.

Bottom Line: Chaco's Hipthong is a slip-on sandal that grips like a shoe.

Hipthong sandals need refinement

By:
July 11, 2007

As always, BCdotcom came through on shipping quickly, as usual. On the first pass, the sandals were a size too small (I wear 10.5 size, and they only make the sandals in whole sizes), so, back to BCdotcom for an exchange that went off without a hitch, and was handled very quickly. When I received the larger size sandals, it quickly became apparent that Chaco needs to do some refining of their sandals. The size of the foot bed was proper, but the webbing that goes between the toes was long enough for toes the size of cucumbers! As a result, the strapping that can be tightened created a fulcrum effect with the toe strap portion of the sandal flopping around loosely. Not wanting to lay this on BCdotcom again after their quick exchange with the previous pair, I remedied the problem with needle and thread, taking up the slack in the webbing that goes between the toes with a bar-tack type seam added. The sandals are now comfortably snug on my feet, and fit well. Chaco needs to figure out how to make this problem easier to deal with, not sure how they'll do it though. Overall, good quality and workmanship. They just need to do more sizing analysis on actual feet of people, not Bigfoot, as seems to be the case with my sandals!

Chaco Hipthong kills it everywhere!

By:

These sandals have been nothing but amazing. I have used them while swimming rapids and fast currents, cliff jumping, hiking, biking, walking, and fishing. These sandals are super easy to tighten up when you go for a swim and just as easy to adjust back to a comfortable setting when your taking a stroll around the block. I haven't had to worry about my sandals coming off while swimming like normal thongs plus i get more freedom without the heel strap. These also grip wet or dry rocks with no problems. I normally wear a size 9 or 9.5 and i had to order a size 10 to give myself a little bit or room for my toes and heels. Hopes this helps everyone out cuz these are a must have for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors!

These are the most comfortable flip lops I've ever worn!! I love that you can cinch down the strap when you go hiking or paddling or whatever. They do seem to run about a half size big, so size down.
