CAMP USA X2 400 Backpack - 1220cu in - 2007

The Camp X2 400 Backpack provides 1220cu inches of cargo space at a ridiculously low 14-ounce weight, making the strictest fast-and-light climbers and hikers happy. Load up this daypack for an in-a-day alpine climb or thru-hiking trip. The channeled back panel and perforated foam shoulder straps breathe well to keep you sweat-free when you move quickly through the woods or mountains. Two large side mesh pockets stash extra layers, and ice tool holders stash your gear during approaches.

Bottom Line: A 14-ounce, 20-liter daypack? Yep, it's called the Camp X2 400 Backpack.

Bare Minimum

Good pack for those who need to travel light. It is strong enough to handle a decent load up to about forty pounds and saves the extra weight when you need to move fast. The pack has the bare essentials without the sometimes unnecessary bells and whistles that complicate other products. The pack exterior material is fairly resistant to abrasion and is reliable against the elements. Recently had this on a river trip for day hikes, and it withstood some serious soaking. For hiking and light and fast mountaineering, the pack may not have spots for lots of gadgets or water bottles etc, but it fits everything you may need with a little organization. The mesh pockets are a bit sensitive to rough environments so handle with care.

Not up to the task at hand

Bottom line, this pack just wasn't' designed to handle the wear and tear of climbing. I loaded this thing down with a double rack of cams for a long day in Redrocks thinking that I was saving tons of weight by leaving my normal assent pack in the car. after the approach, it was already obvious that the cams were rubbing holes in the bottom of the pack. by the end of the climb the bottom of the pack looked like swiss cheese so I repacked the pack with my climbing shoes on the bottom in hopes of keeping my gear in the pack for the decent but right shoulder strap ripped half way across when I picked up the pack. I'm just the pack is great for fast and light day hikes but it's not durable enough to handle weight or friction even for a day.
