CAMP USA High Star Climbing Helmet - 2008

The CAMP High Star Climbing Helmet is built around simplicity and speed. The High Star uses a basic, durable polyethylene HD shell mated to a nylon inner structure without uncomfortable rivets. A simple chin+ears strap adjustment system has few moving parts and just plain works. A Dri-lex headband won't get all nasty when you're sweating out on a face. The High Star has ventilation holes to prevent turning your helmet into an oven.

Bottom Line: Complexity is overrated.

Protects The Noggin

This dome is designed to do one thing, protect your head & it does that with a minimal mushroom profile. Nothing sticking out on the sides. It worked great yesterday by taking a few head knocks against the rocks. Durable, lightweight, & securely holds a headlamp. Nice adjustable chinstrap, headband, & some foam protection. Ventilates well. Great price.

Fairly significant. You will definatly look like a shroom while wearing this hemet. It is one of the more shroomy helmets on the market.

Gets the job done

By:
October 21, 2008

Sure, it looks a little dorky, but it's one of the cheaper helmets on the market and I've taken plenty of hard knocks in it. It's got a padded chin strap, fits well, keeps sweat out of your eyes, and doesn't slide around. What more could you ask for?

No. But they do meet CE, EN 12492, and UIAA standards.

It'll certainly work, but it'll be a bit lopsided. The way this helmet holds a headlamp is with the elastic and hook system in the front and a snap in the back. The snap gets in the way of the battery case and they both get in the way of the overhead strap, but with a little shuffling it'll do fine. I've used this helmet extensively with the same headlamp and it works great.

CAMP USA High Star Climbing Helmet

By:
November 29, 2008

This helmet stays where it should stay - actually fits my head better than a few other more expensive helmets I've tried. No features and it will look better with a few stickers but it gets the job done. I'll repost if I ever have the misfortune to get knocked on the head with a rock and let you know how it does.

Light and breathable.

By:
November 7, 2008

This helmet does not have the EPS foam, but uses the shell of the helmet and internally suspended webbing. For me, this is what I was looking for. It is safe, light, and breathable.

Hold headlamps, easily adjustable chin strap with padding, and protects my head when I go on head-banging expeditions and rock concerts.

CAMP High Star helmet

Great helmet for all around climbing. I bought mine for ice climbing and mountaineering mostly however. Fits great and isn't overly large or obnoxious like some helmets.

Good Replacement

By:
January 5, 2006

I bought this helmet as a replacement for a HB El Cap Helmet that was stolen out of my rig after a SAR training mission. The rim is good for keeping rain off and my headlamp fits well on it, but it is no El Cap. Suspension is a little lacking and an impact from on the top might be interesting but all in all a good cheaper replacement.
