CamelBak BlowFish Hydration Pack - 3L - 2008

As a defense against predators, the puffer fish fills its belly with water. As a defense against not having enough space for an extra layer (and thus hypothermia), the CamelBak BlowFish Hydration Pack expands its cargo volume. The water reservoir holds three liters of liquid for your long rides, and the expanding panel unzips in the main compartment to allow for an extra layer or snacks. If you're just out for a short run, zip the BlowFish up and you have a clean, low-profile pack. The mesh back panel improves ventilation so you stay cool and dry.

Bottom Line: Learn defense against the dehydrated and hypothermic arts with the CamelBak Blowfish Hydration Pack.

Minimal, but Room Enough

I think there are 2 versions of the Blowfish. I chose this one because it's just right: minimal in terms of straps and pockets, but enough room to fit the clothes that need to come off as I get warmed up and out of the shadows on my bike route. Great pack.

How do you tackle the need for electrolytes? Just water won;t

How do you tackle the need for electrolytes? Just water won;t be enough on a long hike. Or do you fill the camelback with electrolytes?

Camelbak actually makes some electrolyte tablets you can drop in that dissolve like an alka-seltzer, or there are a wide variety of other options that don't have to be dissolved in water. Or you can just mix up a big batch of gatorade and put it in the bladder, just make sure you clan it really well afterwards.

8 years

i bought my first blowfish 8 years ago, on my tenth birthday. i used it religiously (about twice a week for day long bike rides) for 8 years, before it finally got a leak. this is a great product. i think that camelbak now comes with a lifetime warranty on their bladders too...

I gave the blowfish to my sister and her husband for their trip to Greece. They hike a lot and took it almost everywhere they went. They had room for snacks and some extra clothing and enough water for both of them
