Brunton Crux Foldable Butane Canister Stove - 2006

The Brunton Crux is a foldable backcountry stove that provides the ease and simplicity of butane canister cooking without added bulk—this sucker folds down to fit inside your coffee cup! The Crux is light, efficient, and easily regulated thanks to its safe and adjustable flame spreader. It simmers like a charm. This high altitude performer is equipped with a cooking surface that steadies even larger pots. Comes with a protective neoprene case that fits around the base of a standard butane canister. BUTANE AND CANISTER NOT INCLUDED.

Bottom Line: Backcountry cookin's no problem with the Crux.

Great Performer

This stove is awesome! Very light, very easy to use and store, and boiling time is minimal even on medium output. The only drawback is the little bit (very tiny) of movement of the stove head due to the ball and socket joint, but as long as you watch your pot and aren't clumsy by nature, you'll be very happy with it. The Brunton Optimus Crux is an optimum performer.

What a cool little stove.

Packed up, this is so tiny! Easy-to-pack, easy-to-use, easy-to-clean up, everything collapses on itself, and there are no sharp edges poking into clothes. My friend was suspicious of its stability, but it was in her own head. Awesome little stove—perfect for lightweight backpacking.

Zero Stability

This stove cannot be used with any pot which does not have serrated bottom.
It works O.K. for 1QT pot. But 1 1/2 QT pot is like a skate on an ice rink on this stove. Instability results from too many moving parts. Burner head is sprung open, and pot supportors are fold out open. Too much play on both.If you are trying to use this stove with titanium pot, you can pretty much forget about your meal until you find serrated bottomed titanium pot. I haven't. So you have to use heavier aluminium pot that has serrated bottom. Spilled dinner twice on 7 day trip. Since then I had to hold onto the pot during the whole time meal was being cooked. No response from manufacturer to my email.

No Problems Here

I like the fact that this stove takes up no space (it fits inside the canister indent). I haven't had any problems with slippage. I do, however, use Brunton fold-out plastic legs to provide extra support to the canister.

Excellent Design and Features

I would ignore the previous reviews on this product and take my advice. This is one great piece of equipment. I checked it out in a retail store before I went ahead and purchased it from Backcountry.com. The people who gave this product a bad review must not be very experienced with combining gear.
