Brunton 8097 Compass

The Brunton Eclipse Baseplate Compass features map measurement scales and Brunton's patented circle-over-circle alignment system to help you find your way in the backcountry. With 1:24 USGS and UTM scales on the baseplate, this compass helps with map reading. The circle alignment system means you won't accidentally read a bearing in reverse—just align the red circle that indicates north over your compass dial circle and go. Brunton shaped the Eclipse Compass to fit comfortably in your left hand. The included lanyard has a built-in safety whistle, in case you need help.

Bottom Line: Don't go into the backcountry without a map and the Brunton Eclipse Baseplate Compass.

Good Compass

Good product, I like this compass. It's accurate and user-friendly. The declination adjustment on the back is very convenient. The compass actually comes with a a whistle attached to a lanyard that you can insert in the bottom of the compass itself. A nice feature, but have a backup whistle. There is also a provided clip for maps and stuff, you might be leaving that at home too.

Burton Compass

This is a very nice product. It is sturdy and accurate. I like the ability to set the declination on the back and forget it. The rescue whistle would be good if you had to be found in church during silent prayer. The clip that is provided to hold your map is an interesting idea but not really practical. I am very happy with the compass which is what I bought.

great compass

i have had this compass for probably 3 or 4 years now (since my boy scout days) - and it served me well then doing intense orienteering and now, in backpacking. it is a comfortable, easy to use compass, and is pretty sturdy. recommended.

I'm not sure how you could make a compass better that this one. It's accurate, easy to use, and does the job very well. My only concern is that it's so big, but I can live with that.

glad I didn't buy it for the whistle

sweet little compass. best I've ever owned.... but I haven't really owned many compasses. in fact this is the first one I will actually be using for orienteering. this things got all the features you need and seems pretty accurate and precise. don't stake your life on the safety whistle though... I tried mine out and I'd be lucky if someone in the next room could hear it.... but nobody's buying the compass for the gimmick whistle anyway.
