I don't see any specs about what size head this helmet fits. Does anyone have guidelines to buying helmets if you can't try them on?

1) In the one review, the fit appears to run quite small. What do you recommend? 2) are the areas over the ears soft? I have never worn a ski helmet before, and my motorcycle helmets and bike helmets are fairly open there.
