The Black Diamond Zenix Headlamp has been upgraded with IQ technology that increases its efficiency. The IQ system give the Zenix IQ constant, consistent lighting, and a mode memory so you don't have to cycle through every mode to pick up where you left off. IQ also offers a handy-dandy charge meter, so you know the state of your batteries before they die at 12,000 feet. The same winning combo of a lensed hyperbright LED and twin superbright LEDs as the regular Zenix give you the right lighting options for any job. The Zenix IQ is as efficient and light as only LED's can be. All the advantages of LED, none of the disadvantages.
Perfect for trail running. Which is why I bought this lamp based on another user's review. It's pretty light and super bright. I originally tried the Vectra IQ, but that was way too heavy for running. Plus it ran off of 4 AA batteries and the Zenix only uses 2. I love the fact that the Zenix puts out a white beam as opposed to a yellow one too.
I have collection of headlamps, if I could only keep one, this would be the one. Most practical well thought out head lamp I seen yet. Runs on two AAs, water tight, very comfortable, and durable. This one headlamp that never gets put away, use it camping, working on my computer, working on my old hunk of junk 4x4. Got a 2hr run time on max bright, the candle power this has. I suggest running rechargeable batteries in this one, especially if you plan to use the max power like a love to do. Heck even if I did not go camping I will still have this one. I hardly bother with my dewalt flashlights and mag lights any more. A note on the durability Ive had this lamp for a couple of years now, tanked a few hundred AAs, still works like new and still my favorite.
This is a great headlamp, the dual lenses are awesome. The lower lens is great in the tent when reading or just sitting around. The high light lens is great at night, for an LED it is great. The only draw back is that the battery life isn't great with the high light lens, I've been left without light twice because the batteries were dead.
The Hyperbright LED really puts out. A bit more focused than a Xenon bulb and much more efficent. This headlamp does everything my other lamps do with a lot less bulk and weight.
I have used this lamp on three weekend camping trips so far and it is still going strong. The outside LEDs provide great proximity lighting for campsite tasks, but the center hyperbright LED could be a bit stronger. The bulb does throw off more light than the two outside bulbs but it is a narrow focused beam and doesn't go as far as I would like. However it is still handy lamp to have for campsite tasks and hiking and you can't beat the weight.
I bought this light primarily to trail run. Brightness is fantastic and easily outshines other lights in the group. 2 LED's are bright but the one in the middle is awsome. You'll only ever need the 2 LED's to run with. Nice and light so you get use to it very quickly. A very good quality product. Highly recomend this light for running and cycling (yes, it fits under my helmet, bonus is that I can see my cycle computer without its backlight). Oh, and battery consumption is very low.
I really like this headlamp a lot. The two outer LEDs provide a nice flood-type light for when you're just around your campsite or when you're spelunking in some tight passages. The focused beam on the other hand offers an intense beam that goes quite a ways. This beam is really nice for trekking in the middle of the night or for caving and seeing what's way ahead of you. I like it, but on the other hand, I've never used any other type than LEDs so take it for what it's worth. Oh, and I never have to replace my bulb... cause it's an LED!
I had to return my headlamp to Black Diamond after using it once.. Black Diamond sent me back a brand new one extremely fast. I give them FIVE STARS on customer service, and the headlamp is just perfect. Must have just gotten a bad one. Black Diamond answered my email in minutes. They rock!!
Not too good. It turns itself back on after I have it off and set it back down. The bigger of the two lights did not work when I needed it the most. I will say however that Black Diamond responded within minutes of my first email and it is currently on it's way to their office in Salt Lake. Maybe a bad one out of the box. Jay
I used this lamp for mountain biking until I got a real HID light. I still take this light biking as a back up. I use this light for everything from shoveling snow to working on my cars. It makes working on any project so much easier especially if you need both hands to do the job. Anyone who does their own repairs on anything should have one of these. I have one in each of my cars, just in case I brake down, get a flat etc. Priceless. Cheers
I've been climbing since the early '70s and I've been waiting for a headlamp like this to come along. Great combination of diffuse light along with a pretty good focused beam. Combine this with superb battery life and bulbs that essentially never burn out and you have a winner. Been using Black Diamond (formerly Chouinard) since the beginning of my career - they're the best!
Wonderful headlamp. It is quite bright at the maximum setting and also has medium, low and blink settings to conserve on power. I bought this for two purposes. First for night hiking in a desert environment like the Grand Canyon. Second for walking my dog at night to make me visible to vehicles. It is serving these purposes well. The quality is good and it is lightweight. I like the fact that it takes two AA batteries because when I'm desert hiking, I can use lithium batteries which are readily available in AA. I would recommend this headlamp to others.
Here's the facts: the two side LED's on the Black Diamond Zenix are *SUPERB*. But the "distance" Luxeon Star LED in the center has a bluish tint, and the beam is really too tight to be of great use on the trail. Unquestionably, it IS one of the lightest critters I've run into, if weight is your chief concern. But there are other options out there. If you don't mind a Princeton Tec, give the Yukon HL a try- I find it to have a whiter cast.
Great headlamp that is lightweight, comfortable, and gives off a GOOD amount of light. (I reckon could be a bit brighter, but it is more than adequate). Love the dual mode using the central LED or the two superbrights. Great for re-pegging tent in the middle of the night during a storm on a mountain summit!
Small, stylish, ultra bright, power efficient, waterproof, what else do you want from a headlamp? After my first night exit with friends 4 of them bought it, this can give you an even more clear vision of the product's quality. Just have one if you need a headlamp, stop searching.
I'm the contractor who fixes damage under houses that people never bother to check until it's too late. Thanks for the head lamp to free up my hands. Thanks Back Country
Recently got this as a gift...used the lamp twice now. Works wonders, the hyperbright LED is really crisp and clean, not yellow tinged like most standard flashlights. I used it canoeing for hours and sitting around the camp fire and havent seen the lamp brightness dull a bit! Easy to use and stays in place atop my cranium, highly suggest this lamp to anyone looking for one. I promise you will be impressed with the quality of light and functionality!
I got this headlamp about 3-4 months ago I've taken it camping, on canoe trips and it's kept up well. I have not been able to check how long the battery really lasts but shortly I will. It is a great lamp, durable, and the two settings are great. Two LEDs are good for all around needs, and spotlight for rare use. Great light. It's not a 5 just because I haven't checked how long it actually lasts on one set of batteries. But, I have used it for 15+ hours and works great.
I have been given this headlamp for use at work (Survival Instructor) and put it throught a spectrum of conditions rain, snow, extreme cold, and worked all night with it alot... I haven't ever had a problem with it or its battery life... the closet thing to a problem was being 20 below and the battery life was a little bit short but other than that its a bomber headlamp.
I bought this headlamp for running and walking after dark. I am very pleased with its performance. The lower setting works well when there is some ambient light, such as widely spaced street lamps, buildings, etc. The higher setting works great in very dark areas, of which there are many in this locale. It allows me to see hazards such as ice patches and pot holes; makes running in the dark much safer.
The light works very well. I am very happy with it's performance. The new high performance l.e.d. light is a great improvement in l.e.d. technology. Throws a surprisingly good beam compared to my other l.e.d. lights. The small thumb operated on/off button on the pivot housing works very well but is not easy to use with gloves.
This is an awesome LED light. The brightness level is incredible. It is night and day when compare to my Black Diamond Gemini. I would recommend this light for any extended hiking expeditions. Go buy it.
I just bought my IQ for climbing/hiking. I love it. It is the most power of any headlamp I have ever used. The superbright bulbs are really nice but the hyperbright steals it all. Awesome power for one bulb. Better than 4-5 normal LEDs and both of the superbrights. Only problem is the hyperbright doesn't burn that long so you need 1 or 2 spare bulbs to be safe. Super lightweight- when I got the box I wasn't sure if the headlamp was in it. Great product for ultra lighting and as a summer and winter lamp. SuperBright-60 hours on max setting Hyperbright-8 hours on max setting (If anyone find replacement Hyperbright bulbs PLEASE e-mail me RyanBuckSlayer@MSN.com Thanks)
This was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted low light for around camp and a high powered, high distance beam for exploring. The high power beam on this lamp is unbelievably bright. It can throw light farther than my old bulky police style mag light. With just two settings this light would be just fine, but both the beam and the spot lamps have THREE brightness settings. Excellent lamp and an incredible value. I would buy another one in a heartbeat if it were ever lost. Crazy how far the technology has come on these. Good stuff.
When I bought the Zenix IQ for my boyfriend, I was curious as to what use he would find for it. The weekend that we received the Zenix IQ, we decided to hike six miles into the forest and six miles out. We made it in, but on our way out it started getting dark. I was so scared because I couldnt see the trail in front of me. All of a sudden this bright light shined in front of me and it was the headlamp. My boyfriend pulled it out of his pack and turned it on. This bright light lead us out of the woods and safely back to our car. I am almost certain that the Zenix IQ saved our lives. It worked wonderfully throughout our journey out of the woods.
Having had several different Headlamps, this is the best I've used so far. Good battery life, and good distance for an LED light. I wish it also had a red LED.
Great headlamp with variety of modes for lamp brightness. The LED lights are very bright too. It's not bulky and is comfortable to wear. One of my favorite features is the small blinking light that shows battery power (green, orange, red) and is also helpful when trying to find it in a dark bag.
I train for marathons. Much of my running is done before daylight along unlit county roads. This lamp works well over a cap, with or without a hood, even in heavy fog, heavy rain, and sub-20-degree temps. Nothing but praise so far.
While on a sailing trip we encountered a gnarly tide change and our anchors busted loose at 4am. We all jumped up and I threw on my Zenix IQ Headlamp to re-anchor the boat in the dark. It saved our lives.
I LOOOVE this headlamp!!! God knows I've gone through far too many, and have leaned towards Petzl lamps most of the time, but this one has changed my mind! It's WONDERFUL! The light switch was a little confusing at first, but worth getting used to! The various settings make it GREAT for hiking/walking and reading in your tent at night. Fits well. Works GREAT. A gooood buy! (even if you aren't a camper... these are MUCH more fun to use in a power outage!! lol) ;D
This is a great headlamp. The main LED light is very bright and lights up a wide area for you. The two smaller lights on the other setting are great too, actually brighter than the main setting on the other (petzl) main setting headlamp we had. The wire and battery pack do take a bit to get used to, but the small amount of extra weight is def. worth having a light that will let you see everything around you.
I have never used a headlamp before, the Zenix was real handy for camp setup, and for the late night stolls in the boonies. Hands free, I will never go camping without one again.
This headlamp was recommended by a friend who had one, and Im so glad that I went with that recommendation. It fits so comfortably with its back of the head battery pack, I dont know why I was staying super light before. I took this one out for an all night hike along some pretty sketchy terrain, and I was so happy with the brightness of this light, and of course, I love to be hands free. I barely used the center beam- which is great for distance. My buddies were pretty jealous, with their dim little Petzls and hand held flashlights. Heh, maybe I should've bought two.
Between lighting settings, this lamp always had trouble staying on. It seemed the power cord to the lamp had a short, and would just turn on by itself. Was this one possessed? Not gonna head in the woods to find out.
Just used this headlamp for the first time. The outer lights don't really seem to cast to much light but the center beam is plenty bright for night excursions. The center spot also works well for lighting up images for photo ops in the dark. It seemed like even though this is an LED headlamp the batteries seemed to go pretty quickly when using the center bulb. Once the batteries are low the on/off gets really picky, maybe I just had poor batteries to start, but as soon as I changed them it functioned normally. This headlamp definitely worked for hiking out of a slot canyon in the dark.
