It only works with the Black Diamond Viper. Black Diamond does make a very similar leash that works on almost any ice tool. http://www.backcountry.com/store/BLD1042/Black-Diamond-Android-Leash.html

The viper android leash sold on Backcountry is not compatible with the new Viper. The worst part is that Backcountry does not inform you of this and then you need to pay for shipping to return them. If you have a new Viper, you must buy the Cobra/Viper Android leash with one stud.

I have the same question. I used a pair of Vipers with this exact leash configuration in March, but when I ordered a pair of both tools and leashes, there's no way the leash will attach... what's the deal?[edit:] I'm a moron. There were some rubbarized logos that peel off the shaft about midway up to reveal the hole set for the Viper Android. On first inspection I thought that seemed too high to be the spot where the leash would mount and that the holes were just missing, but everything works like it should.

i started climbing waterfalls leashless - much better for matching and techy moves on hard ice and mixed routes. however, when i started doing alpine routes, a dropped tool became a serious risk. i hated the idea of having long strips of webbing tied around my wrist when i climbed, but these short, easily-removed androids are barely noticeably and can hardly be called an obstruction. its like climbing leashless with the security of leashes. another well-designed system by BD.
