Black Diamond Transfer 7 Shovel

Black Diamond designed the Transfer 7 Shovel with a trapezoidal shaft to increase strength and ensure fast, easy use in any condition. By moving away from the traditional round shaft, Black Diamond created a handle that extends with a simple pull and cannot be rotated on accident. This makes the Transfer 7 faster to set up than standard shovels, and the large blade moves snow like a tractor when your partner's life depends on it.

Bottom Line: The clock is ticking. Get the job done quickly with the Black Diamond Transfer 7 Shovel.

Nice shovel

Anyone familiar with Black Diamond knows they make a good product. This is no exception. Nice, sturdy feel, good sized blade, and fairly compact. Fully extended handle gives good leverage. My only complaint would be that the handle could slide further into the blade with a slightly different design, making it very compact without disassembly.

Good quality/size!

This fits perfectly into my CamelBak Snoblast. Not looking for a true backcountry shovel - more for making some small jumps or small digging. This is perfect for the job. Good size and the extension makes it a little more bearable. Great quality shovel - and I like the handle design. It was this or the deploy 7 and I went with this for the longer handle and bigger shovel since I wasn't worried about space in my pack.

Great design...

By:

The blade just barely fit into my old 2002 Dakine Poacher but nonetheless it fit. Fortunately, I just picked up a new Poacher and the avi pocket is much bigger so it fits no problem. I'm a big fan of pretty much everything on this shovel. The blade design is extremley strong and able to clear a ton of snow very quickly. I bought this basically because of the handle design. The rectangular shaft and handle provide a ton of grip and it is dead simple to set up.

Correction to previous review

The blade of this shovel actually WILL fit in a Dakine Helipro 20L. the outer compartment of that pack actually extends up above where the zipper ends and goes up behind where the goggle pouch is giving sufficient room for the shovel to fit in to the pack.

should fit I use the volie Mini in my covert.----------It'll definitely fit. Why would BD make a shovel pocket that won't fit their own shovel?------------I have the Covert and this shovel, and they fit together very well. Great shovel BTW.

Perfect

Perfect balance between size, weight, and capabilities. Not too big or heavy but not flimsy either and can move a TON of snow quickly. Square handle is a great innovation and make reassembly easy and quick for when it counts. Highly reccomended!

Large and light

By:

I picked up the transfer 7 to carry in a helipro 20L. The blade of the shovel fits in to the outer compartment with the top of the blade sticking up- behind where the goggle pocket is. The handle trapezoid handle fits fine in to the side handle carry loops. The build and design quality is the best I've seen in any shovel. the trapezoid shape shaft in an ingenious idea so that the pins cannot become misaligned. The handle is ergonomic enough to work with either gloves or mittens.

Biggest Little Shovel in My Pack

By:
December 17, 2008

This isn't the lightest shovel you can carry with you, but that's why I like it. It'll move snow like a barn shovel and won't bounce off of ice like plastic shovels can. The one down side is if you take it to your avy class, everyone else is going to want to borrow it. Luckily I've never had to use mine to dig out a buddy...just a buddy's car.

Great rescue shovel

By: Backcountry.com Employee

Love this little shovel. It will fold down in a heart-beat, is lightweight yet durable enough to take a whack into some rock when cutting a rouche-block or other avi-testing activities. BUT, what I like most about this suck'a is that is has a square shaft. You don't have to fiddle around trying to lock the buttons into the holes like you do with the round shafts. It's a no-nonscence, simple functional design and is very quick to assemble and extend into a shovel. I haven't had to use this to rescue a friend yet, but when and if an avi reaks it's havoc on a buddy, I'd be able to have this thing out in a hurry once I tracked them down.
