The Black Diamond Sputnik Chalk Bag's tapered opening allows quick access for those ultra-fast dips in the middle of the crux. Few things are more frustrating than falling off a route because you lost precious energy trying to get your hand into your chalk bag. Black Diamond made the Sputnik Chalk Bag in two sizes. Get the small for sport climbs and bouldering circuits, or get the large for big-rig trad climbs.
Bottom Line: The Black Diamond Sputnik Chalk Bag—dip fast and send.
The built-in rim on the top of the bag allows for an easy dip anytime. The brush is always helpful when cleaning off a nasty hold in the gym. Been a great bag for the past two years.
I have always only trusted Black Diamond for my harnesses and I do the same for the chalk bag. The slot that you see a tootlbrush in is really good for a slim jim too lol
Will the Small Size blk. diamond sputnik chalk bag hold a standard sized chalk sock inside without falling out? also, when the opening is fully closed when i plan to store when not in use...does the chaulk inside the bag tend to spill out if tipped, flipped upside down,etc...? lastly, when will you restock this bag in the black color for the small size? thank you.
1) I keep a 50g chalk sock in the small Sputnik with no problems. Plenty of room for the chalk and your hand. 2) When closed TIGHTLY (make sure you do this before putting it with your stuff), no chalk escapes whatsoever. I actually like to give it a few "pats" after closing it to eliminate the chance of any chalk residue from getting onto anything.
Yes, it will hold a normal chalk sock. And will not spill out if it's tipped over and closed. A chalk sock won't spill as much chalk anyway, but if the bag gets stepped on or something, it'll puff a little chalk out. Ask Live Chat about restocking.
It's a great chalk bag that's just big enough for my hands without being ridiculously large like some bags out there. I'm definitely happy with my Sputnik.
i use it mainly bouldering, feels tough and thick and seems like it will hold up for a long time. no complaints yet after two months bouldering 1-2 days a week.
Killer bag. Small without being TOO small, yet is very portable.
Pros: - drawstring closes super tight (i keep this in my backpack almost every day; yet to get so much as a streak of chalk on any of my stuff) - small without being tiny. fits neatly away into the corner of a backpack, yet holds enough loose chalk + a chalk sock to boulder for days and days. - mouth stays open forever. - doesn't tip over. - comes with a waist strap for use without carabiner (i actually use this as a makeshift "dispenser" for tape; message me if you want to know how i did it, it works quite nicely)
Cons: - few extra features (no pockets, etc)
A pocket for tape, et al would've been nice, but otherwise this bag is perfect IF you're looking for a small bag. I can't comment on the large size, but the small one is really everything i could've asked for.
here's what i like. It is a good size, will not fall over when placed on ground, has belt so if you dont have a clib you can still wear it, and comes with a decent little brush for scrubbing holds clean. Only a few problems but they seem substantial enough. have some difficulty cinching the draw cord tight enough to eliminate spills which is especially difficult if you re a little pumped, inner material can be somewhat abrasive on hands made tender from sharp holds, and it may be just a shade small for reaching your whole hand into without creating a decent chalk cloud.
Ordered the lrg. It does it's job well. I only keep a small amount of loose chalk in the bag since I keep a chalk sock in it aswell. I have fallen a few times in the bouldering room and haven't had chalk fly everywhere.
I have used many different chalk bags and this is the best! I use it bouldering and climbing. The mouth is large and it is easy to get your hands in and out quickly to continue a climb. I was tired of fighting with bags that do not stay open to slip hands in easily. I have no complaints. It will sit up-right and not tip if left on the ground. When hanging on my harness, the wide loop on the bag keeps it from swinging around or tipping, so it is very stable. The construction of this bag is great!
I like this bag a lot. I got the large size, and I like the fact that it isn't TOO large. The drawstring closes incredibly tight, so no chalk seeps out onto the rest of my gear.
Heavy duty material, is durrable. The main problem I have is that when you fall and tumble bouldering it stays in the open position and can dump alot of your chalk out. Otherwise no complaint. On the other side if you like having bags that say open for fast dips this is good, just not my style as much.
Lately I've been using at the bouldering gym, some other people have the huggest bags I've ever seen but this one works great for me, and I can use it sport climbing.
