Black Diamond Rocklock Carabiner

The Black Diamond Rocklock Twistlock carabiner is one of Black Diamond's largest locking biners. The new Keylock has a non-snagging keylock nose. A slightly curved spine maximizes the gate opening and a square hinge end holds your belay loop securely in place. The Rocklock's large size makes it an excellent choice when using two ropes, wearing gloves, or when using a variety of belaying and repelling techniques. Its large capacity can handle multiple clove hitches at belays. It's easily operated with one hand. –Vendor

Bottom Line: Give yourself space to lock into your belay station with the Rocklock.

The Twistlock should be used over a standard carabiner but not in place of a "locking" carabiner. It only has one twist to open and could potentially be opened by a rope or other inadvertent incident. The twist lock carabiners that require a twist and pull down prior to opening are superior as well as a screw gate carabiner.

This carabiner is big and easy to use. Lightweight, too. I'm no expert, but I really like it!

Easy to open

By:

Some locking carabiners require two or three hands to open, but this one can easily be opened using just one. The action is smooth, the biner works well, and I have no complaints. Except for maybe the price, rock climbing gear is alway expensive, but all in all, this carabiner is worth the money.

great locker

By:
September 14, 2009

Great biner if you are looking for a Big ole locker. it is a tad on the heavy side, but very burly and durable. i had one clipped to the back of my harness during a 130 ft squeeze chimney. aside from some scratches, it looked good as new!

Opens wide, very smooth action, even my girlfriend with her tiny hands needs only one free hand to open it.

Screwgate is great for rapping.

By:

I love carrying a few big 'biners for those times when your belay loop is getting crowded and you need something that stands above the mess. The rocklock is about 4" long, 2.5" at the top and about 1.5" near the bottom. Obviously, the keylock nose is really nice because it doesn't catch ropes or the loop on your belay device. While it is a little heavy, this is a great locker for multipitch because of its versatility.

Only drawback is that it might not fit through some sport anchors, like chains.

Great Master Point Locker

By:
June 20, 2009

I have 2 of the BD Rocklock Screwgate Biners, which I exclusively use for master points on a top-rope setup. I think these are great as the Screwgate gives me comfort that they will stay locked up top (v. the Twislock) and they are plenty large to run the rope through. While I think other locking biners are better for the anchoring system (e.g., BD Positron Screwgates), these work great as master-points biners. I have a Petzel William as a dedicated belay-locker, but these would also work well for both belaying and rappelling.

Simple and Works

By:

Works great, don't have to worry about not having someone screw the gate closed. Light weight. As $$ comes in we will probably order more. When we double check it seems strange because we keep thinking "what did I forget." I reccomend it

I loved the twistlock but the carabiner is too big and too heavy to carry up high mountains.

Belay on!

By:
April 10, 2009

I run my carabiner through the two smaller loops on my harness(not the main loop) and this biner leaves me plenty of room. Just great definately recommend.

I had never used a twistlock-style biner before, until this one. Let's just say I will always be using this Twistlock type biners in the future. They are SOO easy to use and the rope never catches on the gate. It's a must have for all climbers!
