Created for patrollers, avalanche professionals, and serious skiers who require a full-featured probe. The Black Diamond QuickDraw Guide Probe is 3 meters long, has markings every 1 cm, and is equipped with alternating color sections for visibility on the snow and detailed depth readings. Like all BD probes, the Guide locks into place with a quick tug of the QuickDraw cable loop and every section is utilized for maximum length. All tube connectors are chamfered on the outside edge so tubes slip easily over the connector quickly. Quite simply, this is the probe you want to have on big mountains where objective risks are higher.
Bottom Line: Now you're ready to play with the big boys and girls on big mountains. (At least gear wise.)
Like all avalance safty gear I hope I never have to use it for real or dig someone out who is 3m under the snow. But if I am in that situation this is the probe I would want. -"quickdraw"- comes together with a flick of the wrist and a yank on the cable. -as long as they come. -Lightweight, no problem fitting it in my pack.
Putting it away you have to start from the bottom section and work your way up otherwise the cable gets too tight and the sections wont come apart. Not realy much of an issue, but you will notice this if you use this probe.
Like my beacon this is one tool I hope to never use. The depth markings are great, however, for accurate snow pit analysis. It sets up quickly with a simple throw and pull of the wire and breaks down easily as well. Hopefully it is just staying in my pack.
Simple - Lightweight Super fast to put into action. Together - Best feature: - cm markings on entire probe - extra split markings. As an New Zealand outdoor alpine instructor and personal alpinist this prove it self totally useful on Mt Cook - possibly could be more lighter - cheaper is always good. But overall quality is excellent.
Im pleased with the ease of use, it snapped together quickly. It fits perfectly in my pack and I can barely tell it's there. Used it in practice and found out we were on a 5 foot base. In my experience, Black Diamond makes top notch gear, and Ive never been displeased with a purchase. I hope I never have to use the probe, but it I do I'm ready to have it out quickly and be able to probe deep.
With a toss and a tug it easily snaps into place, and at nearly 10-feet long, I never had to worry, is it long enough? Locked together by a cable, rather than a cord or bungee thing, this was the sturdiest probe on the field. And yet it still breaks down so nicely. I used this probe while training with ski patrol this last season. Others had trouble with their probe separating as they pulled it from the snow pack, but no problems here. The head is sharper than most, and is slightly larger than the rest of the probe. This made it easier both going in, and coming out of the snow. The measurements were a nice feature. At a glance, I knew how deep I had to dig to uncover my victim. Makes me wish my buddies had this probe. Cause when my butts on the line, I would like to know, that they too have reliable gear.
This probe is long! I was surprised how small this probes packs when broken down for how long this probe is. It is surprisingly light for having so much metal. Easy to put together, just give a toss, a pull, and a little shake and it comes together nicely. I like how it clicks when the probe is secured. I went with the long probe because if I ever have to use it, which I hope I don't, I want the longest one possible. I don't want length to be an issue if someone is buried. I know debris piles can be extremely deep, but with a long probe, depth is less of an issue.
