Black Diamond Polar Star Headlamp - 2005

When you're making a pre-dawn summit push in below-freezing temps, you don't want a light that'll crap out on you when you need it most. The Black Diamond Polar Star Headlamp features a detachable battery pack so you can store it inside your jacket to ward off energy-zapping cold. But you don't have to be an alpine climber to take advantage of this BD headlamp. For after-dark hikes, a super-bright halogen bulb lights the way, while four LEDs offer great general lighting when you get back to the campsite. And you won't need to worry about waterproofing for your next canyoneering trip—the Polar Star is tested to the international IPX-7 Waterproof Standard (immersion for 30 minutes at 1 meter of depth).

Bottom Line: Don't get left in the dark.

Light and neat light

By:

Black Diamond makes great gear and this is no exception. If you want an all-around light with short range and long range capability, then this is for you. I wanted to be able to remove the battery pack and store it in my jacket for cold and wet weather use so I chose this lamp. It's a great bit of kit.

Light at Night...Fantastic!

By:
October 8, 2003

I purchased the Polar Star in preparation for three late season remote lake kayaking trips lasting close to one month total. It performed “brilliantly.” The single L.E.D. was perfect for camp chores and the halogen for distances and night paddling. The detachable battery pack snug in my chest pocket made the Polar Star headband and housing virtually weightless. The same three batteries were used on each trip. I’ll never return to handheld light in the outback again! I highly recommend this great hands-free tool by Black Diamond for any outdoor enthusiast. Good stuff!

Polar headlamp

By:

I bought the Polar headlamp for my son who is in the Marine Corp serving in Iraq. He love it, it allows him to use both hands and provides light at night for him to complete his taks.

Thank You

The Basics

By:
December 1, 2004

I am pleased with the Polar Star. It's very basic and easy to operate. I'm a part of a special unit and we do a lot of rock climbing and winter survival training. The detachable battery pack is a plus. The lamp functions well overall, but lacks the luxuries of other lamps that have red filters and more LEDs. Nevertheless, the halogen light is very bright. For the price, however, this is a good lamp: comfortable, easy to operate, and reliable.
