The Black Diamond NightRay Headlamp uses five SuperBright LEDs to light up the night. The NightRay's center LED is lensed, allowing it to project a beam for distance lighting, while the other four LEDs offer brilliant proximity lighting. A plethora of lighting modes offer the right light for any situation. If you hunt around your campsite for a dropped spork, leave it on low. If you search for a fence-jumping dog, set it to maximum to light up the night. The NightRay runs on easy to find AAA batteries. Because it's an LED lamp, you can expect long battery life and negligible weight.
Bottom Line: See it all with the Black Diamond NightRay Headlamp.
Pros= Good balance in the engineering. I enjoy the high/low variations of each of the three lightbulb settings. The lensed l.e.d. makes for a nice beam. Cons= The cord might get snagged on some underbrush. It is also a bit awkward at first. The design is not as simple as other headlamps. Overall, I would still buy it again. It remains my most powerful and cherished headlamp.
Although, I have not yet got to put my lamp to the test outdoors I am quite impressed by it. I purchased this lamp to upgrade from my previous generation which has never failed me and has been through numerous trips. The NightRay puts off plenty of light even in the dimmest setting. In all I am very pleased with the product and cant wait put some use to it.
I've had the chance to use it a few times and so far and it works well. The strobe function is a bonus not to mention the Hi,Med,Low function on the two light settings. I look forward to more opportunities to test this headlamp but as usual Black Diamond has truly nice product.
I purchased another Diamondback headlamp from you two years ago during Operation Iraqi Freedom I and loved it. I couldn't keep my hands on it because the crew chiefs wanted to use it to work on the aircraft. This tour I needed another one due to misplacing my other one, so I ordered the Night Ray and was amazed at the level of light received from this newer light. Excellent product for night time work around the aircraft. Lights everything up that I need to see. I wish all aircrews had one of these. Thank You
I have it a few months now, and it's great! The light is very good, it sits well on your head, and you don't feel it and: it gets the mosquitoes away! I'm not kidding. I slept last night in the desert and had a mosquito problem. I turned it on to see the jerks, and they run/fly away!!! I just slept all the night with the light on! Go get it!
I have used several different headlights over the years to find my way in the dark which is a great time to hit the trails, its a whole different world. While I prefer to go by moonlight, the moon is not always full. I have found the Night Ray to be the best headlamp as it covers a wide scope of area and does it with light that doesn't blind you from seeing what lies beyond it. Its easy to wear, and best of all it is extremely lightweight which always is a huge factor. Overall, I highly recommend the NightRay for many uses, whether out on the trail or working around the house.
I am an early riser and in the winter season it is dark when I go for my 5:00am 3.5 mile walk. This headlamp is a safety factor for passing traffic. It has also served as a light when completing tasks in unlit areas. I will never be without one again. Roger D. Badick
The Nightray headlamp has about the longest burn times of any headlamp and is super light. While the lamps brightness is not bad there definitely are brighter ones available, but for the price this one is an excellent value. Great price and great service, and when I ordered an extra headlamp that I didn't end up needing and they processed the return with no problems. Thanks.
I got the Night Ray for early morning ski tours and late night ski exits. The lamp is bright enough for high speed exits. The center lensed LED makes for a more focused beam than other LED lights, which is a plus. Only thing is that I thought the center lensed LED would be brighter.
This headlamp is great for setting up camp in the dark. The multiple brightness settings make it easy to adjust the appropriate level of light for any given task, and the LED lamps retain battery life well. Like all LED lamps, it has difficulty casting a focused beam usable for longer distances. Considering the price and the battery life, as well as weight and comfort, this is a good buy.
I received my Night Ray Headlamp one week ago, and since then I have camped out once. It was bright and was fine on the two LED setting for most activities. I tried it out for a little walk in the woods away from the camp and on five LED medium it was fine but the center LED could be brighter.
Absolutely love all of the various light settings. Batteries still going strong, although battery pack isn't so comfortable when you went to lay in your tent and read at night. Great buy for the price.
Great piece of equipment. At first I felt that I couldn't adjusted the straps small enough to fit my head but after running with it for a few hours I forgot I was wearing it. Very comfortable. Very strong, bright light. I recommend it.
This is not the brightest light in the lineup, however, I gave it a 5/5 because it is inexpensive, it works reliably, it is comfortable, well made, the batteries last a very long time, and it has 2 brightness options. For this price, what more can you expect. Great buy.
Not as bright as the mayo XP but great for kicking around camp or in a tent, I use it as an emergency light. The screw that allows tilt adjustment comes loose sometimes but not a hard fix. Wouldn't want to loose the screw though. locktite??
