Black Diamond Glidelite Nylon Standard Skins - 2006

Black Diamond GlideLite Standard Climbing Skins cut weight and bulk from your touring gear without sacrificing uphill traction. Thinner than regular skins, the GlideLite Skins have Tractor-Print bases that allow them to fold smaller than standard skins to stash easily in your pocket. Their clipless tail is ideal for backcountry skiers who like to keep things simple and a great choice for twin-tip skis.

Bottom Line: Go simple. Go light. Go with the Black Diamond GlideLite Standard Climbing Skins.

That should work fine. I have seen someone remove the clipfix tail and put on an STS instead.

These will work fine but I like a tail clip though. STS or Clipfix are options

I use the ascension skins but I got to play with these at the BC store in SLC. They are way lighter and more packable than my ascensions. I'm thinking about getting these for my GF. Of course I cannot yet attest to their function on the snow, but after putting my hands on them I'm a believer.

when it comes to weight which type of skin would be the best for a larger skier? At 6'5'' and 235 lbs + pack weight im a big skier, are there certain skins that would work better than others?

No, weight doesn't affect skin performance. Just look for a set that will fit your skis width wise, trim to fit and you'll be good to go. If anything you'll have an advantage on a slicked out skin track--more weight means more stick in the snow.

Great skins. I like these because of how compact you can get them compared to Black Diamonds Ascension Nylon Clip Fix Skins. I also have a pair with the STS clip and would get those over these if you have tail problems.

Because often the clip doesn't stay on a rounded tail, it slides off.

Is it a big problem if I ordered a 120 mm skin and my ski is 134 mm underfoot? Or if i even ordered skins that were 100 mm will that work?

Not a problem at all. If you're in powdery snow you'll want skins as wide as possible, but for wetter snow 120 is more than enough.

In my opinion? 100mm1) Will work great out of the box.2) will leave you with edges for those gnarly traverses2.5) Tip and tail skin don't do that much for you. almost all grip comes from the underfoot region.3) If you can't go up something with 100mm of rug underfoot, you really should start booting.

The size of the tip is what matters. Get a size that will cover the maximum amount of you ski. A little spending now will save you many many many headaches out on the steeps.

Yes. The Black Diamond Glidelite Nylon Standard Skins have no tail clip so you are relying on the glue to keep the skin attached. You can cut the skin to the shape of your swallow tail. If the skin glue wears out you can reapply with:http://www.backcountry.com/store/BLD0004/Black-Diamond-Ascension-Gold-Label-Skin-Glue-4oz-can.html
