Black Diamond FreeWire Quickdraw

Black Diamond's FreeWire Quickdraw combines two wire-gate carabiners and a durable nylon dogbone in a set for climbers who don't want to go broke for draws. The wire gates eliminate gate flutter and reduce the chance they'll come open in a fall. This Black Diamond quickdraw also resists freezing better than solid gate models, which makes it excellent for winter climbing. Best of all, the FreeWire Quickdraw weighs only 3.4 ounces to keep your rack light.

Bottom Line: Rack up with the Black Diamond FreeWire Quickdraws and save both money and weight on your rack.

Pretty solid draws. Not my favorite, but certainly not my least.

Great draw.

I got some of these a while back and I love them. I replaced the bolt end biners with Positrons and they clip and clean easier now. I am not a big fan of the new tiny Dynex dogbones, so it is a real relief to me that I can still get a good 'draw with the older, fatter, more stable nylon sling.

This is an excellent combination at an amazing price. I recommend them to people trying to save a few bucks while still getting a good quality product from a reputable company, Black Diamond.

My favs from this picture

Here are the FreeWires mixed in with a few other older Metolius ones. The FreeWires are super light in comparison. Even though I don't have enough on to really notice any difference in weight.

These things rock!

By:

Got a few of these at Miguel's in the red as replacements and quickly ordered a set of 8 from here. They are light and verrry easy to clip. The rubber sleeve on the clipping beaner helps out a lot too. The only thing is that they can be tricky if you are using a Squid to stick clip but it is still doable if you are careful.

Best Price, Light Draws

By:
September 25, 2008

I've been using these draws for the past few months, and I'm quite pleased with them. They thicker runner between the biners keeps this from twisting, and is stiff enough for a quick bolt clip. I prefer these to more expensive, thinner quickdraws. They're very light weight, and have held up well on falls.

Great beaners on this bad larry, I break them apart to use them for trad draws as well. You can barely get 2 good beaners for the price. You know you're getting quality with bd, and these guys have taken two years of every weekend plus beatings and still snap crisply. big fan. Not the most beautiful quickdraw but the wide dogbone hold their position better than the skinny dyneedem.

Great price on wire gates

Cheaper to buy the draw than the biners individually. Good BD wiregate biners and a basic draw. Hard to go wrong!

High Durability

By:
December 10, 2008

Between the hotwire biners and the nylon sling this quickdraw is an excellent choice for durability. Excellent for sport routes, especially comforting looking at a 20 foot drop. They are a decent weight, there is lighter out there, but unless you're alpine climbing these work great. The biners don't rotates as much with this as they do with the dynex dogbone. The stiffness can add to rope drag, but just make sure to carry a few double slings tripled up, and you'll be set.

They are good, you just cant beat the price I love the durability of the draws. They are not the best draw available, but for the price you pay you just cant beat it!

not that loud

By:
March 19, 2009

this is my first set of quick draws and i love them. the rubber in the rope beaner makes life easy. my only complaint is that they are wire so the snap as the gate closes isn't quite as loud as the solid gates. on the bright side, wire is less weight.
