Black Diamond Cobra Ice Tool - 2007

Over the years we've seen the Cobra climb M11. We've seen it take home two World Cups. We've seen it on Czech Direct and on the West Face of Cerro Torre. It's proven itself time and again to be the most versatile high-end tool around. And no wonder—its unique design and construction still rock the house. With a carbon fiber shaft that is light and damp, you can swing this tool with less effort and get bomber placements on the first go. The high clearance lets you clear bulges and quickly move through pocked out sections. Most of the Cobra's weight is centered in its head—which means balanced swings for you and less fatigue for your forearms. Patented split head is both durable and allows for in-field replacement of parts.

Bottom Line: Swallows giant icicles whole.

An amazing tool in the mountains

Black Diamond made a classic in this axe. After using metal shafts all my life then experiencing the dampness of a carbon tool I never will go back. You strike the ice and dont feel the annoying vibrations, not to mention it just sticks so well. The curve of the shaft it great for everything except some steep overhanging mixed routes. Makes a great alpine tool. Expensive though.

One stick wonders!

Just started into ice-climbing last season and found these tools to be incredible. I started into it with a certain mountain school in Canmore so I had the chance to try most of the other tools on the North American market. The only tool that came close was the quark. Glad I made the right decision.
