Incredible expansion range and low weight make the Black Diamond Camalot C4 Package a perfect way to start off any trad rack or beef up an old one. These five cams (size 0.5-3) cover all the bases from fingers to fists. Their thumbhole loop, wide trigger, and large expansion make the Camalot C4s easy to place when you need to fire in gear from a greasy finger stack. Their double-axle design also allows them to be placed as passive protection when nothing else is available. Rack your nice new cams right next to your trusty Stoppers. You'll be happy that you have them in about 40 feet.
Bottom Line: You'll be happy that you have the Black Diamond Camalot C4 Package on your rack when your forearms are giving out and you need pro now.
When I need a bomber peice of pro, I'm always reaching for these cams. The action is smooth and the thumbhole makes me feel confident I'm not going to drop a peice. I love the trigger mechanism on this cam and the hold always inspires confidence. I place these cams whenever possible.
These cams are by far the best on the market. The double axle really helps out with extractions of overcamed units. These work great in cracks horizontal or vertical. These are definitely a must on any trad rack. These cams do not walk when placed right and are the best of any cams I have ever used. I have seen several whippers on these cams and trust. They feel beefy, yet light. I would highly recommend these cams. Make your own opinions, but I will always use my Black Diamonds when given the option. This is a great deal to get most of your bd rack (or double up) at once. Bottom line, love em.
After making a collection of tri-cams, 2 link-cams, a hex, and a set of stoppers, my rack needed only one more component before transitioning from handy to essential; the set of BD C4s, of course! Since receiving my cams I've reached for them first; others second. The action is so smooth and the design inspires confidence. They've held every time and I'll keep reaching for them!
I have sets of Friends, Metolius ultralights and a few smaller C3's and wanted to fill out my rack with a modern set, and the .5-3 C4 combo pack was perfect. The smaller C4's are about as useful as you could ask for, beautifully made and possessing the largest range of any conventional cams I know of, however, even the size 3 has a tendency to walk a little more than I like. They can be placed with good stability but it takes a little more futzing than with Friends or the Metolius cams....don't know why unless it's the double pivot design which is responsible for the wider range. At any rate, these are top notch and recommended highly up to size 2. Above size 2 they are still usefull but I think there might be better choices in larger cams.
These and the BD stopper set really form the backbone of my rack. Throw in the metolius TCU's sizes 00-3, and you've got a quite versatile rack, with enough overlap for comfort, and few wasted pieces.
The trigger action is oh so smooth The cam range is oh so wide The colored lobes are oh so sexy The protection is oh so reassuring when you are pumped out 10 ft above your last piece Hail to thee, black diamond camalot!
Pair these with a lightweight biner (i love the WC xenon lites for racking my cams) and you are ready to get addicted to CRACK...climbing.
This camming system truly reflects the thousands of hours and dollars that BD has spent on research/testing. Amazing weight, range, and their new slings are super sweet. So good it hurts.
Once you get these cams, they are the standard by which you will compare all other cams you have. They have such a range and are so bomber that you'll learn to trust these where you trust no other. They do a great job of controlling walk-out too.
Every piece of protection has its place, but every good rack should have these pieces of pro!
Checked the BD site and it is actually $17 more for the same set of cam's after the discount and free shipping, seems they read your bad price review and bumped up their price.....
These cams are great! With these babies its easy to find a good fit the first time. A different color for each piece helps a lot with this. Also, with big thumb loops and large triggers these cams are easy to hold onto 'till there placed, then sit tight where you want them; no walking away!!
I also checked the BD site and the total is coming back at $287.78 or $36.98 less for the same set of cam's after the discount and free shipping. So not sure what setnie2347798 is referring to but sorry Backcountry.com, I gotta go buy a set of cams, I still love ya!!!
This like the bread and butter for your sending meal....you could get something almost as good for a little cheaper...but why??? Love at first onsight!! WOOHOO!
The new C4's are great. The wired loop end makes hanging on to the cam feel very secure especially during a sketchy clip. They don't have the fancy "rangefinders" but if you need those you probably shouldn't be leading on your own anyway! A great product gets even better with these upgraded cams.
They are not cheaper on BD. Plus, how can you compare with Backcountry.com's customer service? If you haven't ordered much from them, trust me when I say that you can't!
It is my first set of cams for a beginner rack for the Gunks. They squeeze smoothly and "grab" the rock pretty well. I'd need maybe 2 more in lower ranges .5-1 to be complete.
I just bought a set of BD C4 Camalots and finally after 3 weeks of being rained out I got to use them. They were incredible, so easy to use and so solid feeling. It was kind of a heady route I was on and it felt good to know that my pro was bomber. I had a whole assortment of other cams on my rack but these were definitely the best.
It is hard to beat Black Diamond when it comes to cam designs. This is a great package. If you are looking to get your set first cams, round out your current rack, or double up on the most used sizes, I recommend this package. Along with getting the best cams (IMHO) you get the quality and reputation of Black Diamond.
This is the best all around selection for cams. You get all the "essential" sizes with this package. Plus there is nothing like the Black Diamond cam! I have had this set for years, but a friend of mine went climbing with us this past weekend and did his first trad lead. He used all of these and over-cammed most of them (still learning) and they still worked phenomenally. And I could still clean them! No doubt, a perfect purchase!
Black Diamond C4's are the standard backbone of my (and many other climber's) rack for good reason. Black Diamond's offer wider range than single stem cams but are much more predictable and stable than other double stem or link cams. The downside is that they are heavier than single stem cams. I also bought the #4 cam, but don't place it that often.
...especially the new C4 design. They're lightweight, ergonomically very comfortable, and have an excellent camming range. I bought the package as a start to my cam rack and will likely be buying the same package in the future to double up on all my sizes. A definite "must-have" piece of gear for any trad rack.
