Black Diamond Bullet Backpack - 976cu in

The Black Diamond Bullet Backpack holds all the essentials when you launch on a long multi-pitch trad route or blitz your local ice line. Ultra-tough and simplistic construction was chosen whith rock climbing in mind, so you know the Bullet will handle the harshness of sandstone, granite, and limestone without a word of complaint. Its top haul loop provides a place to clip in at anchors, and it rides high on your back to keep from interfering with your harness or chalk bag. The Black Diamond Bullet Backpack is just the right size for your jacket, approach shoes, and some grub—it should join you every time you leave the ground for more than a pitch.

Bottom Line: The bag of choice for long trad routes.

Tough as Nails

By:
October 27, 2008

I've owned the same Black Diamond Bullet Pack since 2003, and I couldn't be happier with it. I love it! I had originally bought the pack for a climbing trip to Devil's Tower, WY. Since then, it's seen that summit twice and has been to the local crags countless times. The bullet is great because it allows full, unrestricted movement but at the same time, it sits securely on your back. This is my go-to daypack, not just for climbing, but for anything active: hiking, ice climbing, snowboarding, skateboarding, urban exploration, cycling, and paintball. I've used this pack for everything and have abused the heck out of it, but it's still in remarkably great shape. The fabric is incredibly abrasion and puncture resistant. The straps are thin but comfortable even with moderate weight (about 10-15lbs). The only negative aspect of this pack is its lack of ventilation on the back panel, but despite this gripe, I can't find any other fault. This is truly an incredibly tenacious little pack. Tough as nails and ready to tumble, this pack is a 'bulletproof' buy.

BD Quality but...

By:
December 29, 2009

The Bullet pack has the bomber construction and attention to detail you can expect from BD. Unfortunately it just didn't fit my frame/shoulders well (5'10"/190) The pack is designed to ride high to stay of out a of a harness's way so keep that in mind. Fully loaded the shoulder straps were always slipping off if they weren't snugged tight and clipped. So if you want a pack to day trip with and kick it around town or run errands with this probably inst it. I've swapped this for an REI Flash 25...which is the best minimalist day pack out there.

Can anyone give me the dimensions of this pack? I'm wondering

Can anyone give me the dimensions of this pack? I'm wondering if it's wide enough to hold text-books if need be...?

Had the preview model and use it as a school bag. It holds up tightly two 1 inch binders + pencil case. Enough for me.

The other classic BD pack

By:

Impeccable construction. Heavy materials. But the bag is small enough that it weighs very little. You can clip this one to a rope and drag it up a wall, or throw it under the seat in front of you in some budget airline. Aside from some dirt, there won't be another sign of use on this bag. It's been a classic for something like 15 years now and it still is. This newest design is one of the best. If I were trying to improve it, I'd bring back the two-layer back panel of 10 or so years ago and increase the size of the zipper on the front outside pocket (it's a little small for my big hands). But those are just quibbles. You need a roughly 1000 ci pack? This is the one. (Though the Arcteryx Cierzo 18 has its moments as well.)

Not for me

By:
June 19, 2009

I never used this pack. I ordered it to see it in person. I'm going with the Magnum instead. Why? Because has no hydration option, and no compression option. The magnum has both, and it has mesh side pockets. I'm using it for long multipitch climbs so I want water and I think the compression system is the icing on the cake. It may abraid over time, but at least I have the option.

All they had was all I needed

By:
March 23, 2009

I was in Yosemite last summer for a 5 day pack and realized I didn't have a small day pack for trekking around Tuolumne Meadow. I stopped into the store there and found the Black Diamond Bullet and decided to give it a shot. (It was the only pack they had in the store.)

It has worked out very well. I am a pretty big guy so it can look a little funny on me but it does everything i need it to. It is perfect for my 3-6 hour day hikes.

I would buy it again.

Perfect

By:

I bought this pack for carrying my lunch and water bottle at my job. It's great for this and it still has plenty of room to spare! I have also used it to carry my cloning shoes and chalk bucket. I love this pack!

Ideal basic hydration compatible pack

By: Backcountry.com Employee

I was looking for something with a little more carrying space than my camelback lobo, but still wanted something hydration compatible. The bullet fits the bill perfectly. Construction is good, fabric seems really durable. I use it mostly for hiking and it carries lunch, compass, extra layer, snacks, water, headlamp, knife, water filter, binoculars... all the things that wouldn't fit before. Love it.
