Black Diamond Bandit Winter Pack - 690cu in

Load everything in the Black Diamond Bandit Pack when all you need is a shovel, probe, and a little water for a quick backcountry tour or yo-yo out of the resort. Black Diamond created this ultra-minimalist pack for those short one-run trips before work where you only take the bare essentials so you don't have to explain to your manager that you were late because you packed too much gear at 6:00am.

Bottom Line: Just the basics.

Quality Resort Skiing Pack

By:

I have the Black Diamond Bandit that I use for my resort skiing days with family. It fits nice, very light and provides just enough room for my hydration pouch and the little that I carry when I am out with my daughters and wife. It is perfect for days where you do not need to be carrying your av gear.....although it does have just enough room for a shovel and probe......For days in the backcountry I would use the Outlaw, but for days in bounds at the resorts with my kids....the Bandit is perfect.

Pretty easily. The probe and shovel have their own pocket and the layer and gloves can cram in anywhere, all that packs down well. The goggles can fit well too. Should be enough room for what you described.

does the water hydration pack tube has a stash pocket so its not in the open to get dirt and other stuff on it? is it similar to the backcountry access stash backpack where you can hide or stash the tube and mouth piece by putting them inside of a zipper pocket on the shoulder strap.

how good is this pack with keeping out the water and kepping

how good is this pack with keeping out the water and kepping your supplies dry inside? Also does the hydration pack tude freze up while riding, is it insulated? I read a bunch of reviews on this pack and none of them seemed to cover those topics

The waterproofing is quite good, but not 100% waterproof. You can't submerge this bag in water and expect your stuff to stay dry, but you can expect that a wet snow day will not affect your gear. As for the tube, it will freeze when it gets cold enough, as the sleeve leaves very little protection. That said, an insulator for Camelbak is easy to come by.

This pack serves many purposes. As a touring pack it works great as it will hold you to just the essentials. My deploy 7 shovel (the bigger gold one) DOES fit. Interestingly enough, I have been using this pack for extended Mt Bike Rides. Very comfy on the back and does not feel much heavier or bigger than some camelbacks. This also makes a great "carry on" laptop bag. Very recommended.

The 13 inch plastic and Aluminum fit very snug in the shovel pocket. I did a test and found that the 15inch pro fits in the main compartment very well but not in the shovel compartment. The main compartment offers more protection anyways.

Exactly what I wanted

Great design fits nicely on the back; even when full you hardly know it's there. I use this pack to bring SLR equipment with me on the mountain, it's a perfect solution. Adjustable ski loop works great. In spring / summer I use it to carry a water bladder etc. while trail running, and the outer pouch fits my iPhone in perfect position to string headphones to my ears.

So you can wedge a dslr in this pack and not worry about destroying it? This is going to be the big selling point for me.

Nice pack, bare minimalist

By:
February 17, 2009

This is a great pack if you're looking to carry the bare minimum. Fits the Deploy 3 shovel perfectly. With a shovel, 2 or 3L hydration bladder and lunch, it's a perfect, light pack for a great inbounds/off-piste day. The smooth face of the pack is great for lifts- it's slim enough to keep on your back, and wont catch any loops or straps on the back rest.

In terms of size, fits fine on my back when adjusted (5'1", 110 lbs female). Boyfriend is 6', 170 lbs and uses the same pack.

The fit should be pretty good. It's torso length is 16-19 inches, so should be fine. Hope that helps.
