Big Agnes Zirkel SL Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down - 2008

At only two pounds, the Big Agnes Zirkel 20-Degree Down Sleeping Bag easily cuts weight off your three-season camping kit. The insulation in sleeping bags becomes useless when it's compressed. By replacing the insulation with a sleeve for a Big Agnes 20-inch-wide mummy-shaped pad (not included), Big Agnes brought the Zirkel's weight down to about two pounds and created a system that keeps you on your pad while you sleep. Inside the water-resistant shell is warm, light 800-fill down. The Zirkel also has an integrated pillow sleeve, where you can stuff your jacket, making yourself even more comfortable while you sleep.

Bottom Line: Enjoy the outdoors after a good night's sleep.

Quality bag

By:

I'm really, really pleased with this bag. I was too hot in 30F weather. I actually had to switch bags with my girlfriend who was cold. She loved it too.

I prefer the Two Track pad to the Air Core series. though they don't pack as small, I feel they're a lot more comfortable.

Does the Zirkel sleeping bag come with pad included?

Unfortunately not. You have to purchase a specially designed pad separately.

Great bag

Great Bag; I previously had a BA Pitch Pine, which was small, but a bit too chilly for frosty nights above timberline. This bag is perfect. It packs small and is light and is snuggly warm. I love it.

Good quality bag and comfortable, temp rating optimistic

By:
April 24, 2009

Pros: lightweight, high quality down and fabric material, width and size is roomy and comfortable for a mummy bag.

Cons: Temperature rating of 20F is very optimistic. Using a hammock or tarp as a shelter, and wearing thermal pants and wool baselayer with hat, I felt slightly cold at temp of 35F with 10-20 mph winds. Perhaps without wind and inside a tent would be good up to 25F. I think I would feel very uncomfortable below that. In addition, if you inflate the pad all the way, you will have a real difficult time zipping the bag up past the shoulder level.

You can probably get a lighter and warmer bag but it wont be as roomy as the BA. So for now BA bags are a good compromise.
