The materials are exactly the same, with the exception of the poles. The less expensive version uses Yunan 7001 Aluminum, while the SL2 uses the high-tech DAC Featherlite material for the poles. This is where the weight reduction comes in. It appears that the packed size of the heavier tent is a bit longer (4 inches) than the SL2.
