Big Agnes Mystic SL Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down
Big Agnes made the Mystic SL Down Sleeping Bag to be a lighter-weight, more compressible version of the Lost Ranger 15-Degree Bag. The Mystic features 800-fill down for coziness during your springtime backpacking trip in Utah's canyonlands or your summer jaunt into the Rockies. A DWR-coated shell prevents light precip and morning dew from dampening the down, so you can sleep sans tent if you feel like it. As with all Big Agnes sleeping bags, a sleeve holds your sleeping pad so you don't roll off in the middle of the night and get chilled or wake up sore the next morning. Use Big Agnes' rectangular sleeping pads with the Mystic.
Bottom Line: If you're looking for a versatile, lightweight sleeping bag, the Mystic SL fits the bill.

As always, BA makes great, innovative products. My only quibble is with the temp rating, but to be fair, I usually have that with temp ratings. I'd put this 15 degree bag at more like 30, but that's just my opinion. I still wouldn't trade it for the world - super light and well designed.
The stuff size noted in your literature for the Big Agnes long
The stuff size noted in your literature for the Big Agnes long is 8x6 inches, while the stuff bag provided is 8x17 inches. My questions are, is the stuff bag provided waterproof and if I purchase a Granite waterpoof compression bag, what size do I order. Many thanks for your time and efforts, I am getting smarter, but it takes time!!!!

It is water resistance but not proof. I am not sure but I looked into it and in most bags I needed a medium. it usually says on the package.

This is a great bag and good quality. I am 6' 170 so I got the long and it was a good choice. if I were to do it over again I would maybe get the mummy version because I am skinny and I have a ton of room in my feet and legs so it takes 30 min. or so to warm it up but once I do it is great. I love the fact that I stay on my pad but it is a little okward to sleep on my side but it works. One thing to know is that it is a big set up so if your backpacking tent is small you may want to consider something else. for example if your tent is 30 sq feet or less and you are sleeping two people in the tent you may not be able to fit two of these. I really like it and would buy it again.

it is meant for a 20" wide. and if you buy the regular you need 72" and the long you need a 78". I have heard of people using other pads and they worked. 20" by 78" is the max for the long

I have a couple of other Big Agnes UL/SL products that I love and this bag is no exception. First night out with it at close to the 8k level got pounded by heavy winds and wet snow but was toasty through the night. Being able to slip my existing rectangular pad into the sleeve was great. Because of the heavy winds and precip some moisture did drip onto the bag but nothing seemed to penetrate. I'm a bit of a thrasher at night but this bag has plenty of leg room so it was not a prob.
Other than the 5 oz, is this bag worth the price over the Lost
Other than the 5 oz, is this bag worth the price over the Lost Ranger, does it compress considerably more--important for me because I pack a lot of my kids stuff too.

This is opinion but if I was to buy over again I would probebly buy the lost ranger. I have the mystic and my buddy has the lost ranger. It is nice to save the extra weight and have a little bit smaller bag but the added worry is almost not worth it, (thiner and more expensive). having said all that, i still love this bag.

My one complaint with the Lost Ranger was that it was a little heavy and should have used a higher quality down. Well this is the answer. This is the perfect bag for me. I am a little claustrophobic and the smaller mummy bags constrict me too much. This one combined with the way the pad slides into it allows me to toss and turn without a problem. It is a great bag.

The zipper goes down to about 10" from the end of the bag. I hope that's enough.

Absolutely LOVE my Mystic!! ... both my husband and I own and enjoy this 'as-comfortable-as-our-own-bed' Big Agnes bag/pad/pillow!!! (We had read one should, for camping, try create, as close as possible, one's own bed at home!! The Big Agnes system has accomplished this for us!!) Our last backpacking trip was a bit 'rainy' and cool, but we were very snug!!! Thanks Big A !!! : )

i think backcountry just got the prices switched. big agnes has their msrp the other way around, with the regulars being $389 and the longs $409.Nice catch. It should be sorted properly now. Thanks!

It makes a difference in the weight. 800 fill means that one ounce of down fills up 800 cubic centimeters, whereas 600 would be 600 cubic centimeters. So the higher number actually means that less down is used to obtain the same warmth, because it is a higher quality down that fills more for its weight, making the bag lighter. Or alternatively, if the same weight of down were used, the higher quality down (800 fill) would be warmer because it would have that extra 200 cubic centimeters of insulation per ounce.All down traps air. This is how it insulates. The higher fill power e.g. 750, 800, 850, etc. has more to do with compressibility. Now your sleeping bag has a lower temperature range & weighs less.
