Big Agnes Horse Thief Sleeping Bag: 35 Degree Down

Despite its name, The Big Agnes Horse Thief Sleeping Bag has all the features of a luxury sack. Big Agnes included an integrated pad sleeve so you never roll off you mat again, interior loops to secure a liner on extra cold nights, and a built in pocket for a fleece or pillow. The mummy shape increase the bag insulation performance and decreases packed volume and weight.

Bottom Line: Sleep in outdoor luxury.

think of it like a regular bed. you can cover your head or leave your head out depending on your preference.
most people wear a fleece beenie at night, so at these temps, it's not that cold that you're worring about drafts.

Best Summer Bag Ever

Everything about this bag is magnificent. The weight, the packability, the warmth it offers, the fact that you can slide your sleeping pad into the back of it and never roll off your pad again is amazing!! I used to wake up every time I'd roll over because I'd fall off my pad and be on the hard ground. With this bag was the first time I got a full nights sleep. It gives you enough room to roll around and even get into a semi fetus position. Big Agnes makes some sick gear and with this is just another tick on the tally of their accomplishments.

I am not sure how a hoodless bag works. Seems to me that the pad should be sticking out above the bag so your head would be laying on something if the bag only comes to your neck. But the pictures I've seen seem to show the bag still covering the pad on this Horse Thief. Can someone explain how this works?

I have this bag and I absolutely love it. It is hoodless but the airpad, make sure it is mummy cut of course, goes all the way to the top of the bag. I am 5'10" and the regular comes 2" above my head. There is a built in pillow case near the top so you can stuff a jacket into it for your pillow. Most importantly!!! There is no down underneath you where your pad goes so only the top portion of this bag is insulated. I used the BA Primaloft insulated aircore for this bag and together it's good like Batman & Robin. Because of the Primaloft, it insulates you from your body's warmth. I've used this bag in 30 degree weather and it kept me warm.

What can I say? I originally bought the BA mummy pad because it was less expensive and lighter than a thermarest -- i've since coveted one of these bags -- when one came up on SAC for more than 60% off I had to go for it. Not only is the pad in bag system super lux and more than all it is cracked up to be this 35 degree bag kept me more than warm and dry for two sub 30 degree nights in a row on Mt Washington (Hermit Lake) the second which included snow and rain blowing into the shelter onto the bag.

is there a hood on this bag? I just bought the big agnes air core sleep pad and would love for a light weight bag to go with it.

No hood on this one. It does have a pocket though for you to put your fleece or pillow in.
