Big Agnes Fish Hawk Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

After a spring day of riding Moab's bike trails, bed down in your Big Agnes Fish Hawk Down Sleeping Bag. This 30-degree-rated sleeping bag is just right for cool desert nights, and the down feels cushy and cozy. Plus, this goose-down bag is lightweight and compresses to nearly nothing, so it doesn't take up much room in your pack or in your gear-overloaded vehicle. Like all Big Agnes sleeping bags, the Fish Hawk has no insulation on its bottom but instead has a sleeve for your sleeping pad. Your rectangular pad insulates you from the ground, and because it's integrated into your sleeping bag, you won't roll off it in the middle of the night. Stuff your fleece jacket into the Fish Hawk's pillow pocket and enjoy sweet dreams.

Bottom Line: After an epic day on the trail, sleep soundly inside your Big Agnes Fish Hawk Down Sleeping Bag.

BEST BAG FOR BIGGER GUYS!

By:
June 16, 2009

I've owned a number of sleeping bags in my adult life and have always been a fan of the North Face Cat's Meow...until now. At 6'2" and 210lbs I prefer/ need a "roomier" bag and Big Agnes nails it. Great sleeve design for your sleeping pad and quality down kept me toasty warm the other night as temps dropped to around 40F. Packs up smaller than the Cat's Meow too. After debating between the Fish Hook and the Yampa, I chose the Fish Hook to cover a broader temperature spread for an extra $10.

Bottom line - if you're a "bigger" guy or want some room to move around and are looking for a top quality bag - look no further.

Received a long 78" Fish Hawk as a gift. What is the recommended pad for this bag?

With a long Fish Hawk, they recommend a long rectangular (not mummy) pad, as sold by Big Agnes. However, I have a long bag and have found that a standard sleeping pad works just fine. I got the long bag because I like a little extra leg room (I am 6 feet tall) but my standard pad fits in it just fine, and my whole body stays on the pad. The most important thing is that the pad needs to be 20 inches wide (and either 78 or 72 inches long). Some longer pads are wider than 20 inches, and therefore won't fit in the pad sleeve.

You need a long rectangular pad not a mummy per Andrew above.

anything in mummy and long. So something like this would be perfect:

Good setup

I really like the design. It is roomy like a rectangular bag and keeps the pad (I am using a Big Agnes foam pad) underneath me the entire night. I have not been out in really cold weather and the bag has really been too warm for me so far but opening the zippers at both ends seems to do the trick. I was in 50s last weekend and was able to be pretty comfortable.

Being down, this bag can pack down pretty small if you want to take it backpacking.

It comes in two sizes, regular and long and I believe Big Agnes is the only maker of sleeping pads that fit the long which I have. On the plus side, the Big Agnes Two Track pad is comfy enough for me plus has a good insulating value (not that I need it). For the regular size, you have a wider choice of pad.

I am a happy camper!

Does it come with a pad. If not what size should I buy?

Depends on the size of your bag...regular 20" x 72" long 20" x 78" All Big Agnes sleeping pads are sold separately.

Wonderful moderate-weather bag

By:

This is a fantastic bag that perfectly meets my needs. It packs to just 7 X 8 inches, and weighs less than 3 pounds (and I have the long bag). Its rectangular shape feels very spacious compared with my mummy bags (the bag is actually wider than my 20 inch pad). The integrated pad sleeve is a wonderful idea, not only keeping me from sliding off of my pad (especially if my tent is pitched on a slight incline) but cutting down on the weight of the bag (since there is no insulation on the underside--it relies on your pad to provide insulation). It is important to use a (20-inch-wide) pad that has some insulating value. The Big Agnes pads are probably best, but I have been fine with a (regular-size) Therm-a-Rest NeoAir (which does take a little work to slide in the sleeve, but packs real small). A regular-length pad seems to do fine in a long bag. The built-in pillow pocket is also a really nice feature. I really can not think of any way to improve upon this bag (except by shaving off some ounces, which would be hard to do in a bag that is this roomy).
