Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL2 Super Light Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

The lightweight Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL2 Tent features mesh sides to let in cool mountain breezes and a rugged rain fly for stormy weather.Outside Magazine loved this tent's functional design so much, they gave it their Gear of the Year award. Eco-friendly tent poles hold up the two-person Emerald Mountain SL tent. In order to reduce air and water pollution, tent-pole-making company DAC created a method that requires significantly less of the two toxic chemicals necessary to making tent poles. The result is super-lightweight poles you can feel good about pitching your Big Agnes tent with. Enjoy gobs of fresh air when you pitch this tent without the fly. If a storm rolls in, the waterproof fly and tent floor will keep you dry. Two vestibules—one by each door—gives you plenty of room for backpacks, muddy boots, and rain gear.

Bottom Line: The Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL2 Tent offers spaciousness, ventilation, rain protection, and a low weight so you can backpack in comfort.

Portable circus tent (with additional vestibule)

By:

It's pretty pricey, but if you buy the extra vestibule you'll have enough storage for all your gear and that of your idiot friend who thought it'd be hard core to not bring his rain fly in the Cascades in June. And with more than 36 sq ft of total vestibule space, there is still be enough room for your idiot friend to hunker down also. The tent itself is pretty accommodating, with a 42 inch ceiling (just enough to awkwardly bend over and change clothes). There are two storage pockets inside the tent for contact solution or glasses or a deck of cards. The pole setup takes a couple attempts to get down but is easy after that. The clip design helps keep the tent well ventilated by holding the fly apart from the tent body. I had no problems adapting the tent to small camping sites. My only concerns are that the tent mesh seems too thin to last. Also, the design seems to not do well with high winds. So far though it has been outstanding, taking buckets of rain and hail in the Sawtooths (and numerous trips elswhere) with no leaking whatsoever. And at just over 5 lbs (with the additional vestibule), it is a breeze to pack around anywhere. I suggest leaving the idiot at home regardless.

I'm not really sure. Seems like backcountry has been doing a lot of this. They will put something on sale and only have one color out of 10 on sale. Seems like they have sold out of last years sale tent and only have the new model. Which isn't on sale. This has been bothering me as of late with these guys. The price has been tweaked.Sometimes BC leaves discounted items in the "store" and doesn't put them in the "outlet" because there are more discounts available in the outlet than the store. So that way 40 percent off coupons and the like that can be applied in the outlet, cannot be applied to them.

Light and Easy

Recently used this tent for the first time in souther UT. Not only was it easily assembled at night, it withheld on again off again rain storms that blew in every direction all weekend long. The tent has small storage pockets and ample amounts of room. The extra vestibule is awesome as well. Highly recommend this tent!

why the limited lifetime warranty? the seedhouse sl is cheaper

Limited lifetime warranty means that the warranty is only valid for you the original purchaser. Also, it's limited in their liability. They will cover product defects, and if it doesn't hold up to use like it should, but they will not cover 'deliberate' damage like the breaking of poles, or accidental damage like leaving the tent wet in its stuff sac so it mildews. Hope that helps.Any incidental damage will be repaired @ a very nominal charge if they don't cover it under warranty.

before this tent i tried out the seedhouse (not SL), which i bought cheap off SandC. i loved it; well made, just big enough length-wise, and super simple to put up. but it just didn't have enough vestibule room for two people's packs, so i returned it and bought this instead. it's the same quality, the weight is nice and the fit is good, but because of the cross over pole design it has an annoyingly large footprint. i took it backpacking in the Wa.'s north cascades and it was hard to squeeze it in to the locations we were camping at. i'll be holding onto it, cause it is a perfect car camping tent, but for backpacking, i'm looking for something else.

Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL2 Super Light Tent

By: Backcountry.com Employee

Agnes what can I say about her, she's BIG. Who wants a little petite thing, I like em BIG. I think the Big Agnes Emerald Mountain SL2 Super Light Tent is pretty bad a**. Even when compared to the SL3 model (3-person version) the tent is still very spacious, plus it's even lighter. It's very well ventilated. I love its mesh top, leave the fly off and keep those bugs out while enjoying the night sky above. I'm new to Big Agnes gear but I see these guys competing more and more with the "Big wigs" like The North Face, Sierra Designs and Mountain Hardwear.
