Zip into the lightweight Backcountry.com Women’s Stoic eVent Shell, slam a few energy gels, and tackle that skin track. This highly-breathable, storm-shunning eVent Shell fends off nature’s nastiness—minus the clam effect. No one likes clamminess, not even clams, and the Stoic eVent Shell totally understands this. Shivering your teeth out at the top of a windy ridge because of a sweat-sodden base layer is no good in the backcountry. The eVent Shell vents heat and moisture better than the leading waterproof breathable fabrics without crapping out on the weather-shunning, keep-you-comfy factor. Lightweight and easily stowable, the 12-ounce Stoic eVent Shell benches your summer rain shells and ponchos. Articulated arms and a flattering women’s-specific fit help this shell fend for the fairer gender out in the out-of-bounds.
Just tested this shell on a mixed condition day on the South Ridge of Superior and it was awesome. It is lightweight with great maneuverability, and offers excellent protection against the elements. The cut is great for women, and it has great pocket placement and thoughtful accents- like cuffs and hood. It stuffs light and small, and would be perfect for a variety of outdoor activities from a rain storm, to windy day, to a touring layer, and light ski spring ski or climbing jacket. Highly recommend this product- was really impressed with its performance, protection, and breathability. VERSATILE!
I agree with another posting - the color is "girly" and it seems like the fit is also sized for someone with a "girlish" figure. I normally wear a small, so ordered the same but the fit around the waist and hip was very tight while the chest and shoulder big, and sleeves too long. I am 5'1", so perhaps this was sized for someone who is taller but the length fits me - maybe it should be short on a taller person. The material feels as described but unfortunatly had to return it so unable to test out its performance, protection and breathability for high workout such as running.
I am looking for a highly "breathable" and waterproof jacket for running and snowshoeing - all the ones (Northface and Sugoi) I have so far feels damp inside the jacket after 15 mins into my workout. Is this truly not "clammy"???Thanks.
Bought this jacket 2 months ago and even though the snow isnt here yet have already got lots of use out of it. Incredibly waterproof and breathable, wear it commuting to work on my bike on super rainy mornings and also on long hikes where the weather can turn from hot and sunny to cold and stormy really fast and I can leave this jacket on through it all. The fit is really nice, very flattering so it looks stylish out on the town and personally I absolutely love the grape purple, have had a ton of compliments on it. My only sadness is that it doesnt have a powder skirt...but then I knew that when I got it. For anyone who just wants a wicked quality shell without all the bells and whistlers, this is your coat.
Is this jacket suited for the really cold days in the mountain? (We have had -20 oC in Hemsedal, Norway, lately.) What is the quality of the fabric like? Thick or thin?I'm 170 cm tall and pretty average built. What size should I buy?I'd like a dark blue protectivelayer-jacket. Any other suggestions than the Stoic?
I'm a huge fan of eVent, but it's really important that you keep it clean. I had an eVent shell that worked great for a season, but it slowly lost its waterproofing. It wasn't the jacket's fault; it was my ownyou're supposed to wash eVent often. So follow the tag (which I didn't read) and wash your Stoic shell often.
I received this jacket as a gift in early December. I wore on day hikes & during errands in the Pacific NW. It is lightweight & the eVent (Gore-tex's main competitor) adds major credibility as it repels water just the same. The colors are a big too 'girly' but the jacket is overall very functional & versatile for use.
center front on the stoic event is 25 inches, from neckline (where a crew tee neck opening hits) down to the hem. these are lightweight, and meant to hit at the hip, but do not have alot of extra length. check out the sizing chart for sleeve length measurements.
the stoic event shell has a single pull zipper on the front. Simple on and off, with less futzing with that dual slider. it is also short enough that the lower slider should not be needed. no inside pockets, but the hand warmer pockets extend up to the chest for a large skin pocket, wear one in each pocket, and rip that backcountry powder!
kmc... that was the first thing i noticed, too... only Pink or Purple???? Why not at least one blue or green choice? At least they aren't pastels, though! I will give it that. If i -was- going to buy pink or purple i would want them bold. But that blue choice for the men's version would be sweet!
I'm a woman and i HATE these colors. seriously, Backcountry.com, what the hell are you thinking? At least give us ONE option that isn't a horrible (and disgustingly "girly") color.
Please, please, please come out with better colors. This is exactly the jacket I would like to get for my girlfriend, who needs a light, breathable, waterproof shell, but she wouldn't be caught dead in either of those colors... how about a muted orange/rust or some pleasant shade of blue? I think sales on these things will skyrocket as soon as some decent colors are released.
Ummm...I guess some people like them. I'm not a woman, can't help you.------My wife got the pink and loves it as do all her friends. She had to put the shut down on her friends buying the same color because they all wanted it.------I agree the colors are a bit too 'girly.' Hopefully they will come out with better colors on the next run.
