Backcountry.com Merino Zip Tee - Long-Sleeve - Women's
We made our Backcountry.com Women's Long-Sleeve Zip Tee with super-fine New Zealand Merino, flattering women's-specific fit flat-locked seams, and a ½ zip chest so you can tackle anything from a 5-day backpacking trip to a run around the neighborhood in complete comfort. Given its super-fine 18-micron Merino knit, the naturally odor-resistant Merino Zip Tee feels great as a next-to-skin base layer. Merino transfers your moisture just as well, if not better than most synthetic fabrics, and it won't leave you shivering after a good sweat since wool stays warm even when wet. Bust open the ½ zip neck for a little extra ventilation when you reach the top of your climb or finish your bike ride with a sprint. Thumbholes in the Merino Zip Tee's cuffs help the sleeves stay put when worn as a layering piece, and the contrast side panels put an end to being rubbed the wrong way.
Bottom Line: The Backcountry.com Long-Sleeve Zip Tee leaves stinking synthetic base layers wanting.
I was looking for a long sleeve shirt that I could be active in and not overheat. I also don't like wearing bulky layers, so wanted something that would keep me warm too. This shirt fits the bill, and it fits so great too. I've had a hard time finding shirts I'm willing to spend good money on. I am pretty picky, but I love this shirt. I wore it for the first time today even though I bought it a few months ago. Just hadn't gotten cold enough until now. Love it. I wasn't crazy about the grey accent at first as it looks white in the picture, but I really like it now. It just wasn't what I expected. I love the color now!!! I bought the Rose/Smoke one in Large. I am 5'7", 160 lbs.
Sweet midweight shirt! I was very happy with the fabric and how comfortable this shirt was throughout the day. The best part about it is that I couldn't smell myself at the end of my day hiking around in the Wasatch backcountry. Super breathable and the thumbholes helped keep snow from getting up into my arms after I took a bit of a digger while skiing. I purchased a small, but it is a bit snug and am debating on getting a medium for my next purchase.
I'm going to have to agree with canadian_chica...while my Smartwool lightweight zip shirt definitely shrunk in the first wash, this shirt hasn't...and I don't think it will. You can try washing it in really hot water and then putting it through the drier...it shouldn't wreck the material or anything, although it might not actually shrink the shirt at all.
I have the non-zip version of this shirt. I have washed it in pretty much every water temp and thrown it in the dryer, I haven't noticed any shrinkage, thankfully. I think that you might be out of luck.
Love this shirt ... it fits a bit smaller than expected. I ordered a M because I wear a M in icebreaker shirts, but I found this fits a bit smaller than that.
I bought this at the begining of the ski season. I work outdoors at a ski resort. I wore this everyday and still fits great, and dosent hold my stink! Fits great, looks great hold up well......I also wash and dry it like a regular old t-shirt!
This shirt fits great! I have a fairly long torso and it is so ice to have a shirt long enough to not expose the small of my back to the cold and finally a shirt that fits me thru the shoulders! Most major name brands would sell this shirt for over $60! I wear this shirt backpacking, skiing and running. Absolutely my favorite base layer in cold temps or long sleeve solo in warmer temps. I'm buying another one!
Backcountry.com's customer service is stellar, their sizing could use some work. I ordered this because for $30 I don't mind the shirt being a bit tight in the chest (not all backcountry girls are an A cup), and the arms being saggy. Overall the shirt is super soft, cute color/cut (not boxy), and will work well as a warm layer this winter.
4 out of 5 because the fit was a little weird - tight on my midsection (which is my smallest body part) and loose in the arms. I wish it were cut a little bit longer in the torso. But aside from that, great lightweight base layer. I wore mine recently to hike Mt. Marcy in NY and it kept me very comfortable and completely dry even when I was sweating.
It's sized & fitted to be a true base layer, so keep that in mind. I was looking for more of a mid-layer, so I ended up returning this. Overall, it was a nice tee, but I'd rather have the wool as my mid-layer.
Love it! Especially the monkey thumbs. I ordered a medium and I am usually between small and a med. And I can still wear a thin layer underneath. Neck isn't very close fitting but otherwise its great.
This is the 3rd Backcountry wool top I purchased. I like all of them because Backcountry produces high quality products including great fit and materials used.
I returned this item. The material felt very good, but the fit was all wrong for me. It was way too snug (and I am 5'6" and weigh 115). I have since on another site bought a Smartwool zip top, medium weight, in a men's small. Perfect.
I'm glad I read the reviews, I usually wear a small, ordered the medium, perfect fit! It does not feel like wool at all, very soft, light weight material. It is not heavy like a thermal layer, better for the base layer or days that it's not real cold. I had it on for hiking and will use it as a base layer for backcountry skiing.
I bought it because it was 1) wool and 2) on sale. It's a good layering piece. The merino wool knit is smoother than I was expecting; it goes well under t-shirts (a standard look here in the Pacific Northwest) and slides under jackets. The neck is looser than I've experienced in similar shirts, but it's not floppy or sloppy-looking. I, too, wish for maybe an inch more length in the torso (and arms!) but I think that for most women the fit will be fine. I did order a large instead of my usual medium, however.
I ordered this shirt because I have fallen in love with the Merino Wool products and find them great for going on runs on cool days. This shirt definitely lived up to that expectation. I also love that its a bit longer on the torso. That way I dont have to worry about my shirt riding up when I'm on a long run. Sizing does run a bit small, as with all backcountry.com products, so if you are looking for a looser fit, definitely go a size up. Other than that, I love this shirt and think its a great buy.
i bought this sweater in the maroon color and the guacamole color. they are great for running in cool weather. they are lightweight yet keep me warm. i love the thumb holes so the sleeves stay put. my only complaint is that they run a bit on the small side, however, come ski season i'll probably like that because they'll be easier to layer.
I really wanted to like this top. The fabric is actually softer than Ice Breaker but the fit is dismal. As you can see from the other reviews, you have to order a size up. I normally wear a small, didn't pay attention to the reviews and ordered the small. It fit fine through the shoulders and arms but from the chest down it was waaaay too tight. So, I ordered the medium. The chest and waist fit right but the arms, shoulders and neck were so big that it was useless for me. My husband's neck could have fit in this top! I'm not shaped like a pear..honest. I wear a small in Ice Breaker, Patagonia, North Face and it all fits me perfectly. This piece is just not cut well. Hopefully the next version of this top will be better.
