Backcountry.com Merino Zip T-Neck Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's - 2007

We made our Backcountry.com Women's Long-Sleeve Zip Tee with super-fine New Zealand Merino, flattering women's-specific fit flat-locked seams, and a ½ zip chest so you can tackle anything from a 5-day backpacking trip to a run around the neighborhood in complete comfort. Given its super-fine 18-micron Merino knit, the naturally odor-resistant Merino Zip Tee feels great as a next-to-skin base layer. Merino transfers your moisture just as well, if not better than most synthetic fabrics, and it won't leave you shivering after a good sweat since wool stays warm even when wet. Bust open the ½ zip neck for a little extra ventilation when you reach the top of your climb or finish your bike ride with a sprint. Thumbholes in the Merino Zip Tee's cuffs help the sleeves stay put when worn as a layering piece, and the contrast side panels put an end to being rubbed the wrong way.

Bottom Line: The Backcountry.com Men's Long-Sleeve Zip Tee leaves stinking synthetic base layers wanting.

Versatile Layer- Under or Over

By: Backcountry.com Sponsored Athlete
November 6, 2008

Excellent layer that works well as a top or only layer, as well as an under layer for skiing, winter running, or ice climbing or other. The zipper is long and allows for a well protected neck area or more breathability when unzipped all the way. The October Grape color is rad- very feminine. It also has a great female cut to it, and love the panels as it off-sets the other fabric. It is a light weight layer but provides more warmth then you would guess for it's thickness. I am 5'7 and medium build- and the medium fits perfectly. Perfect for just about any outdoor activity that requires a versatile layer, or for just hanging out in at home. A must have for your sport clothing arsenal.

This is my favorite shirt ever.

By:
February 17, 2009

This shirt is warm, stays incredibly dry, does not smell, and is super comfy. It has thumb holes which oddly enough, I adore. I have worn it to run daily, ski, snowshoe, and backpack through South America. I also wore it for about a week straight during exams, and it never smelled, despite all the sweating I was doing during my tests. Now I wear it every test.... because I think it might be magic.

Loved the fabric, but not the fit

By:
August 25, 2008

I ordered this in a Small and a Medium, thinking I'd keep whichever one fit and send the other one back, but I wound up sending both back. Too bad, 'cause the fabric is fabulous.
The S mostly fit, but was too tight across chest & armpits. The M was looser, but still tight across chest; and the neck was too big for me in that size. "Too tight across the chest" is something that I rarely have occasion to say (I'm in the A-B range in bust size), so I found the fit/design a little puzzling. Not right for me, anyway. But the wool was soft & comfy.

nice fit but not very soft

By:
December 20, 2008

I ordered a medium and it fits me great..yes, it's form fitting but not tight. However, I expected the same softness that other merino wool tops ie Smartwool and Icebreakers make and I have also but not so..Next time I will stay with Smartwool or Icebreaker tops, it's worth the extra money.

What's the difference between this top & the Backcountry.com

What's the difference between this top & the Backcountry.com Merino BLISS Zip T-Neck Shirt (besides the pocket)? In the descriptions, both shirts say they are 18 micron merino wool, but this shirt says 'midweight' while the Bliss says it's 'lightweight'. Are both shirts the same weight & warmth?

The wife likes it

By:
January 7, 2009

Good layering piece from BC brand that my wife likes a lot. Not the softest wool in the world, but I don't think it was scratchy on first feel at all. The fit is on the tighter side, but this is an athletic shirt. For the price (with BC coupons) I don't think you can beat it.

A Winner!

By:
December 21, 2008

I just got mine in the mail today and can already tell I'll be making good use out of it! It's extremely soft, well-fitted, and comfortable even when zipped all the way (doesn't feel like you're being strangled). It's definitely an "athletic fit" and would probably be tight across the chest and armpits for bustier women (I'm an A/B and it fits just fine). The thumb-loops and trim fit are great for layering. Thanks, BC, for a great shirt!

I was wondering if you consider this a "lightweight";

I was wondering if you consider this a "lightweight" or "midweight" layer, compared to for example a Smartwool product. I'm trying to gauge how warm it will be.

I'd consider this to be a "lightweight" layer that adjusts well to varying temperatures. The fabric is smooth and thin, but with the high neck zip as well as the thumb hole options, there is added warmth and coverage. Because it is a lighter layer, it can also be worn well under or over other layers as well..but stands well on its on on a cool fall day activity. hope that helps..

Its my favorite

By: Backcountry.com Employee
February 4, 2008

I now have a favorite wool top to go with my favorite wool bottoms (Ibex loose tights). When I say 'favorite', let me clarify what that means: it has to be an item that I don't have to wash very often, looks good, and will last a long time. I love wool but its expensive. I always know it will be a good investment though. This definitely is. I usually wear a medium and got a medium. I was a little surprised that it was more fitted than expected, but a large would have been to big.

I love the feminine fit and it washes really well too. It is great to wear as a layer for snowboarding in super cold weather or to wear solo just running around town. I highly recommend it!

It looks as though we do not have a turquoise color. Cinder and October Grape are the only options for the time being.

new fave

By:
May 29, 2008

A new fave piece of gear! I love it and want to buy more! Great fit, wicks well, perfect for exercising in cool conditions. Amazingly, the wool really does seem to be odor-resistant. Sizing is good, and I love the fitted style. Thumb holes are an added bonus.

Basic Layering Piece

By:
January 19, 2009

Being a 'store' brand, I was impressed with the detail, cut & fabric, runs true to size which was a bit surprising. This is most def a layering piece, but can be put with a t-shirt underneath & looks great with jeans & hiking boots.

soft, fits fine

By: Backcountry.com Employee
November 3, 2008

I am tall (5' 9") with a B-ish bust and long arms, and usually wear a medium top. I bought a medium, and it suits me fine. However, this top is form-fitting; I could be comfortable in a large, too. And I can see how it could be too tight in the chest for someone better-endowed than me. The fabric feels silky and soft and doesn't smell after wearing for a few days. It itches a touch when I just put it on, which doesn't bug me, but it might bother someone who's sensitive. I bought it for snowboarding and camping/backpacking. My only complaint is that when I washed it, the fabric panels shrank just a tad, which caused the front zipper to get pulled to the left. It's barely perceptible (it was two days before I noticed), but ... maybe this top should be hand-washed?

I absolutely love this shirt. I wear it too much! I have worn it as a casual shirt in addition to my normal outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, climbing. So far, it has lasted through many washes and seems to be holding up great.
