The midweight Backcountry.com Merino Hiking Sock 3-Pack outfits you for long days on the trail, big approaches, and chill Sundays around the house. Foot-mapped cushioning, a spandex-reinforced shape, and a vented forefoot help the Backcountry.com Merino Hiking Sock make the cut for your sock drawer.
I got these socks a while ago and have really enjoyed how good they wear on my feet and how they perform. Good cushion in the right places, snug fit without feeling tight, and the merino is nice to keep odor down. While not as soft as some Lorpen I own, they are a solid sock for the price.
These socks are amazingly warm and cozy too. Also they are priced cheaper than others I have found. They shrink only slightly in the wash and dont feel too tight. The only down side is that after a long day in them, they sort of have a "wet dog" odor to them that i have not got from any other pieces in my merino collection.
excellent sock construction. completely form fitting with thicker material under the foot and less on top. I thought I was happy with the smartwool knockoff from costco... not anymore.
I bought these on sale so it made it all the better. They're my first pair of hiking socks and the first time I wore them was a 15 mile/7.5 hour hike up Mt. Marcy (the tallest peak in NY). They were awesome and I am sooooo glad I used them. I think my feet would have been completely trashed had it not been for great, wool, hiking socks to go along with my hiking shoes. Not one blister, sore spot, or anything. I've attached a picture of a second pair I wore two days later hiking Mt. Mansfield in VT. This was on the summit!
Write your question here...I am currently planning a trip to Kluane National preserve in the southwest corner of the Yukon. The trip involves a lot of cross country in open gravely country. Would these do OK, or should I go for a heavier sock?
Depends on your feet in terms of temperature. Are you going during the colder season? If so you may want to go warmer. If your feet are use to a little thinner sock or a medium thick sock these will be fine. They're fantastic socks! I use them for about everything. They never stink and they don't rub my feet funny either. Hope that helps.
Overall great socks. My only complaint is that they are a little short - only about 2.5 inches above the ankle - they don't slip down so the coverage is always there but I like my socks a bit higher on the shin - also a bit tight when you first put them on and my toes feel smooshed but as the day goes on they loosen up. Not a total 5 star winner but a solid four stars based on construction and value.
fit is great and the height is exactly what i wanted. they are thicker than i imagined which will relegate them to more serious outdoor activities (rather than every-day/work socks), but they will fill my boots nicely. seem to be constructed well and the merino blend keeps my feet very comfy.
Compared with other hiking socks, these are on par with the medium weight Smartwool brand that I own. The only difference is that these come in a 3-pack for $20 (a super good deal).
Havent done any serious hiking in these yet, but for kicking back and cruising around town they've been awesome. The only negative I've experienced so far is that the upper part (ankle and above) of the sock tends to slide down and bunch up...however it never bunches up on my foot so I dont consider this a big deal. I recommend these socks...especially if you're like me and have moved to a cotton sock-free lifestyle.
Killer socks. I use them for trail running and they're pefect. The merlino wool makes them soft and warm but the biggest compiment is that I pretty much forget about my feet when I'm hitting the rocky steeps. Tres bien! Also, like some others have mentioned, the girlfriend keeps appropriating them for padding around the house so you may want additional pairs.
This is a great sock.. however I didn't realize that the lupine color is very feminine color so I would say not to order for guys. However, I got this as a gift for my husband and he still likes it even the the lupine/violet color
These sox are the bomb. I can't keep them in my drawer.......my wife, my daughter, my nephew, hell even the dog be tryin to steal them. Get em while you can!!!!!!!!
Very warm with a good arch support. They shrunk a little in the dryer but still fit. Not as durable as some other midweight socks I have, but still very comfortable and warm!
Great winter socks in Oregon. Best buy for 3 pairs. Keep feet nice and warm/dry. Pair went into dryer and came out a little smaller, so they are now the wife's. Would buy again.
great socks. super comfortable and soft... and look good too.
took them in the snow on a long hike. performed very well. long days (10-12 hours) and the socks were great!! merino is one of the best fabrics for the outdoors.
I'm kind of new to the whole merino / poly blend thing, so my negatives may just be par for the course... they pile and they stink. I've never had stinky feet, but man do they stink with these. Also, for how well they're supposed to wick moisture, my feet always seem kinda sweaty about 15 minutes after I put them on. Neither of these things are problems with regular ol' cotton socks or bamboo socks. Meanwhile, I'm told that those things are pretty normal, so for what they are I do really like them. They're super cozy, keep my feet well insulated. I love the bright blue they come in.
These are great socks for the money. Not too thick and very comfortable. I use then with an inner sock and even with wet feet for two days on my last trip, no blisters. Here is the link to the inner socks. They work great together. http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Backcountry-SynthTrail-Crew-Sock-3-Pack/BCC0218M.html
These little piggies are in hog heaven in these socks. Long cold day on the slopes today, -7 degrees at 4 o'clock. to get home and put these cushy hush puppies on made my frozen soul smile! Aaaaahhhhhh.....
Got the three pack on sale, and could not be happier. Very comfortable. Have only had them for a short time, so only time will tell about thier durability...
I've converted my hiking sock inventory over to these socks. I was skeptical of the ankle height on these socks, but I get full coverage of my ankles in relation to the height of my hiking boots. The socks fit very well with a thicker bottom and the right angle between the upper and lower sections.
These are great socks. I love merino wool, it's awesome for any occasion. Hot? It'll keep your feet cool and wick moisture. Cold? It'll keep your feet toasty, and won't get wet. (wet = cold) I wear these for everything from lounging around the house (they go great with hot cocoa), to playing basketball in the summer (they'll add a few mm to your vertical). Oh, and they work for hiking too.
