Backcountry.com Merino Crew Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Women's - 2007

Forget your fears about itchy wool—the Backcountry.com Women's Merino Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt is a whole different beast. We made this base layer with super fine 18-micron New Zealand Merino—which simply means that this shirt is so comfortable, you may never take it off. The Backcountry.com Merino Crew Shirt ensures comfortable, dry days whether you're out for a mid-January dawn patrol or an autumn ride down the single track. Merino transfers moisture while your sweat is in its primary vapor form, so unlike most synthetic fabrics the Merino Crew Shirt begins to pull moisture away from your body before your shirt becomes saturated. And since wet usually means cold in the backcountry, warm Merino is the way to go. With its flattering women's-specific fit and rub-reducing raglan sleeves, the Merino Crew Shirt offers both outdoor function and casual comfort. A reflective logo hit on the Merino Crew's front neckline ensures a little more safety during your evening runs, and the thumbholes at the cuffs take the bunch out of layering.

Bottom Line: Don the Backcountry.com Women's Long-Sleeve Merino Crew Shirt and become a Merino believer, or a day dream believer—either way, we're stoked for you.

Favorite Shirt

By:
December 12, 2008

This shirt is quickly becoming my favorite shirt. I've worn it running as a single layer and it wicks perspiration away very well while quickly drying. I picked it up a few days later just to see if it would retain any odor and it didn't smell like someone worked out in it previously. I was impressed.

I've worn it as a base layer snowboarding and love the fact that the shirt is LONG and doesn't come untucked exposing my lower back to cold air.

I have even worn it on cool days with jeans and get compliments on the way it fits.

I'm pretty happy with it. Recommend machine washing and letting it air dry.

Everyone needs more than one of these!

By:

This is my 3rd merino shirt from Backcountry, and it definitely will not be my last! It is my go-to baselayer. It does not itch, and keeps me warm without ever getting chilled like you do with synthetic baselayers. Another plus is the thumb holes - I am finding less and less shirts that have these, which it disappointing. You won't be sorry purchasing this item!!

Yes it can be machine washed with out shrinking. Check out the nixwax wool wash: http://www.backcountry.com/store/NIK0035/Nikwax-Wool-Wash.htmlmake sure you wash on cold and fluff dry. I hang my merino wool up to dry and fluff dry it so it won't be stiff at all or I will fluff dry it with no heat if I need it dried faster.

I bought these for my wife. She absolutely loves them! Just another great product from BackCountry! These are great as insulators but they dry very fast and work great alone! She won't wear anything else in the elements anymore! Thanks BackCountry!!!

I usually do not like wool because it has always been uncomfortable to me (even merino wool). However, this item changed my opinion on wool and will definitely buy more in the future!

One of my favorite baselayers! Fits true to size. Loved it so much, I wore it at least 3 days in a row on a recent ski trip and it didn't smell at all.

Surprise

By:
November 24, 2008

This is the first time in my life I've been able to wear wool. Thanks "merino." It was 9 degrees this morning and my loyal top has kept me nice and warm. I love it!!!! My husband convinced me to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. And I can wear it over and over without it developing any offensive odors. By the way, I'm from the Caribbean, and I really HATE the cold.

Bought this shirt off recommendations - didn't like it

By:
May 28, 2008

I bought this shirt because of the high recommendations and I've never worn merino wool. Well once I tried it on I thought it was too itchy and the last thing I want to be is itchy on a hiking trip. The length of the sleeves weren't quite long enough either. It was a stretch to use the thumb holes. I'm 5'8". I loved the style and color , just wish it was softer.

Smells like it's fresh out of the dryer!

By:
May 20, 2008

Okay, maybe not that good - but it DID spend two weeks on a wildfires in the southwest and it doesn't smell like smoke. Pretty awesome achievement, actually. Kept me warm on those cold nights in the sleeping bag! The fact that it's 100% wool allowed me to wear it on the fireline for some cold night shifts, as well.

The purple color is great, although the sleeves could be just a little longer (I'm 5'9" and got a large). It fits, but it's stretched to its limits when I use the thumbholes.

I wear this as an undershirt when i go snowboarding and snowshoeing. It's so warm, and doesn't itch like wool normally does.

I bought 2 of these shirts and love them. I could never wear a polyprop for more than one day, but can with these shirts. They are so comfy and warm - this coming from a cold fish!

Great fit

Great fit on this. Medium fits perfect if you normally buy medium. Great length on the sleeves and waist. just gives you that little bit of extra you need to be comfy and still have it be very functional. colors look true to the pictures on the site. Very nice rich grape color.

passes the stink test

By: Backcountry.com Employee
January 25, 2008

i went ahead and gave this the test of a good 4 or 5 days of wear before washing (including one epic 12 hour drive in a snowstorm). I can't say it smelled like roses cause it didn't. but it didn't smell at all, so it passes the test.

as far as fit, it's great. if you go a few days it will stretch a little bit, but not beyond pure comfort.

and the fabric/weave of this merino is really nice. To compare it to an older icebreaker oasis crew that i have (which is awesome, don't get me wrong), the icebreaker is more of a fine rib knit and the backcountry merino is more of a smooth weave, so it feels nicer to the touch.

it's the only top i've worn skiing since i bought it.

Warm, Lite and Breathable

By: Backcountry.com Employee
February 22, 2008

This a wonderful product at a great price. I have worn it skiing, snowshoeing and around town under a sweatshirt. I am known for being cold this keeps me warm. After sweating this keeps me dry.

I also like the monkey holes which are super if you have long arms.

I may have to buy another one of these I like it that much.
