Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Long Underwear Top - Men's - 2007
With its soft, naturally odor-resistant 18-micron Merino wool knit and ½ neck zip, our Backcountry.com Men's Merino Bliss Lightweight Top covers you in functional comfort, minus the synthetic funk factor. We made this nest-to-skin top with ridiculously comfortable New Zealand Merino, rub-reducing flat-locked seams and side panels, and a body-heat venting ½ chest zip so you can blow off some steam after a mean summit push or a tricky boulder problem. Merino wool transfers moisture while your sweat is in its primary vapor form, so unlike most synthetic fabrics the Merino Bliss Top begins to pull moisture away from your body before your shirt becomes saturated. And since wet usually means cold in the backcountry, warm Merino is the way to go. Stash your lip balm, energy gel, or other small items in the Bliss Top's zippered chest pocket for safe keeping while you're on the go. A reflective logo hit on the Merino Bliss Top's collar ensures a little more safety during your evening runs, and the thumbholes at the cuffs take the bunch out of layering.
Bottom Line: The Backcountry.com Merino Bliss Lightweight Top takes you to a transcendent level of layering happiness.
This shirt comes very close to being the ideal base layer. As with all merino pieces (Icebreaker, Ibex, Smartwool) it breathes well, doesn't itch and doesn't stink. As for the specific design: Pros: -Long cut stays in pants well -Thumb loop seam is on the outside of the hand, meaning it isn't uncomfortable to wear gloves or bike (ahem, Icebreaker) -Zipper is extra-long for venting -Chest pocket Cons: -Base layer seams really should be flat-locked. This could chafe after a long day. -The pocket goes a bit too far left, snacks occasionally migrate to the underarms. If this place fixes those two things for the next version and leaves the rest the same, this shirt will be perfect.
The shirt is lightweight, but warm and comfortable. I wear it running around town, running, x-country skiing and snowshoeing. The size was just what I expected. I highly recommend the shirt.
I bought one during the mid year sale. Not sure it's worth 4 stars at regular cost.
I like the mock Tneck that zips ... the chest pocket is a nice feature too. Fits pretty tight through the torso. Looks good, decent style & best suited to mid-layer.
I have been using this shirt for the last 5 months. On the plus side, the fabric is great! Perfect weight for mild weather, layering, really soft next to skin, easy to wash, and durable/long lasting. I really like the chest pocket, it's very functional and a great feature.
I'm not a big fan of the thumb holes. They're helpful when layering but, get in the way when your just wearing the shirt by itself. Rolling up the sleeves works, but you end up with a bunch of fabric around your wrist.
I own a few merino wool shirts this one is up to par on quality. A great perk is the thumb holes in the sleeves. They are in the perfect spot so the sleeves don't stretch when you use them. The chest pocket isn't the most useful since the material is so flexible. The shirt looks so good that you really could wear it on a bike ride and then go out afterwards.
I've worn this in a variety of conditions now, and I love it. Good breathability, solid warmth, good fit. The thumb loops and zippered pocket are nice touches. Lastly, as I'm sure everyone else has noted, the wool does not stink after several wears.
Far better than the Smart wool shirts I have. The collar is non stretchy and stands up or lies down nicely the contrasting colors make it wearable as the only layer. Nice touch to have reflective highlights on the sleeve and collar but when I run at night in the dark I would like some reflectivity on my back (seeing I do no have eyes that look that way).
I used this skiing over my spring break and wore it about four days straight, and even after all that it still didn't smell. Good fit, I'm 6'2 180 and a large is perfect. Extremely warm as well, one of the lightest, yet warmest shirts I have owned. Great product as a great price!
Well, I'm a big icebreaker fan. But this item is at least as good icebreaker's wool shirts. Similar to Icebreaker Men's Bodyfit 200 Mondo Zip. Breathes well, doesn't itch and doesn't stink. Looks good too. MADE IN CANADA! Worked perfectly as a base layer for alpine skiing. Sizing similar to icebreaker.
