From the classroom to the crags, store your water in the BPA-free, stainless steel Backcountry.com Klean Kanteen 27oz Powder-Coated Bottle. We took the bestselling Klean Kanteen, finished the outside with a cool blue powder coating, and slapped the ubiquitous goat on the front. Whether it’s work, school, or a day on the trails, this durable and unlined bottle gives you a big wet serving of hydrating goodness without holding flavors or leaching nasty chemicals.
Bottom Line: Goat-approved water containment for everyday use.
I have to admit, I used to be a plastic water bottle culprit due to the copious supply at my rafting employer. I have since learned the errors of my ways and have adapted my lifestyle to include a reusable bottle for my liquid needs. I carry this Backcountry.com Klean Kanteen everywhere I go now; clipping a 'biner to its useful cap lets me attach it to any backpack or belt while I'm on the go.
Plain and simple, I will never leave home without this great bottle!
Supposedly there are plastic bottles out there that are said to cause cancer. Well, I find that everything these days if you test it enough is said to cause cancer, but if you are looking for a plastic alternative this bottle is great. Light weight and solid. I dropped it while I was biking down the street at around 25MPH and it was fine after bouncing down the road. You have to screw the cap correctly, but does the trick well.
Love this bottle. Lightweight, durable, keeps the water tasting clean and fresh even on a hot day. Banged it around hiking up some southern Utah red rock, took no damage.
I am un-clear about the "quality" part of your question. Powder coat could have quality levels just like the paint on a Ferrari is probably higher quality than the paint on a Chevy. But auto paint is still auto paint. Powder coat is similar in process to glazing on ceramic kitchen dishes. The powder is applied and sticks to the metal surface by means of static cling. The item is then baked and the coating becomes glass like and molten and chemically sticks to the metal. The process creates a durable finish. Here's an excellent website on powder coating:http://www.metokote.com/coatingTechnologies/powderCoatingProcessSpecifics.asp
I bought the bottle on sale for a great price. I is great at leaving no after taste. I have had no problem with the quality of the bottle or powder coating. I use it everyday and would buy another if needed.
The Good: No Metal taste, BPA free, keeps water nice and cold, REPPIN BACKCOUNTRY The Bad: Outsourced to China(quality control is supposedly not as high compared to Sigg), Sometimes leaking will occur
What does the powder coating do for the actual bottle? I assume it protects it, but doesn't it eliminate the ability to use the bottle for boiling water in a pinch. Any thoughts?
The powder coat is probably for looks mostly because stainless steel resists rust but the powder coat may offer some protection. Powder coat is baked on, so heating over an open flame may make the coating molten again and change the look of the finish.I would not recommend putting a powder-coated bottle over a flame -- at the least it would burn and discolor the coating. Here's a good website on powder coating:http://www.metokote.com/coatingTechnologies/powderCoatingProcessSpecifics.asp
These are becoming my favorite water bottles of all time. They dont keep the taste and smell of plastic containers and insulate amazingly. I find that the non-blue containers come with a plastic cap, which I prefer over the steel caps. They are incredibly dent proof and are always in my backpack while at school, work or on a bike ride.
Pros: great look, and the speed goat is awesome Cons: sqeaky cap, and the lid has to be on really tight to avoid leaking I would buy this product again though.
Cool water bottle, the only bad thing i would agree on is the squeeky cap, but besides that you gotta love the design and size, its keeps the cold in, and i hate when plastic water bottles leave that moldy plastic taste in your mouth, you dont get that with this baby.
I liked the blue powder coating but the bottle I ordered came with a "ghost" logo image: there is another lightly painted logo on the other side of the bottle, as if someone painted that one first, realized he did it wrong then moved onto the other side.
No big deal, I wasn't going to let that bother me. So I kept the bottle. First day it was great. But on the second day, when I wanted to twist my cap open, the plastic loop and the steel part of the cap just...well, came apart. The plastic and steel piece must be glued on or something.
I was able to turn the loop, but the steel part wouldn't turn, so the cap wouldn't budge.
So I was stuck with a useless bottle, couldn't get it to open. I had to send the bottle back with water in it.
Backcountry gave me a free return shipping label for the trouble though. No complain there. But I really can't recommend this bottle. I have read the 100% plastic cap works better. Perhaps backcountry should offer that as an alternative. Or maybe Klean Kanteen needs to offer a 100% steel cap?
This is a great water bottle. No more plastic after taste. Travels well everywhere with me without any leaking. And its 2 3/4 diameter size fits well in Accord cup holder.
Diggin' the logo on this Klean Kanteen, the powder coating make the bottle easier to grip and 27 oz. is the perfect size for me. Fits in my bag and goes with me everywhere without being too big to want to lug around.
