If you're tired of tasting last night's concoction when drinking from your plastic bottle, leave after taste and clichéd look behind for the stainless steel Backcountry.com 27oz Goat Klean Kanteen. This lightweight, toxin-free, non-funky, and dishwasher safe water bottle leaves you old plastic or Lexan rig wanting. The Goat Kleen Kanteen comes though in a pinch as a container for boiling water, and the super-durable stainless steel exterior is sticker-friendly. As a green alternative to disposable water bottles, this sleek vessel carries the Goat logo with pride.
Bottom Line: The Backcountry.com Goat Klean Kanteen leaves polymer water bottles as a thing of the past.
Used for a short time and then found out I couldn't open the bottle anymore because the plastic cap had separated from the metal cap piece and it just turned in place. Upon further investigation, 3(+) people have mentioned this in the reviews. Here is video I took of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3VrxWDJKSw
The product gets a single star (a water bottle that's impossible to open???) but another star is rewarded for excellent customer service. Rich F was very easy to work with and immediately sent out another bottle for me... hopefully this next one is better.
This bad boy stands 11inches tall, about 3 wide. The top takes about three turns and is tight. Durable, hell yeah- got dropped off a fire tower- hit two trees then rock. Thought for sure it was toast, just a dime size dent in the bottom. No way a nalgene plastic bottle would have made that plunge. This does not have any type of liner in it but fluids manage to stay at a decent temp. Opening at top is about 1 3/4 round. Big enough to slam some nice sizes cubes in it. Just buy it already..
Okay, this bottle may be awesome and all, but nalgene bottles don't break either. Unless you run them over with a semi... and then ONLY the top breaks off. Just calling it like it is.
A traditional nalgene is a bit too big for my liking to lug around when hiking or out in the backcountry skiing. This bottle is durable and just the right size. Very stoked on it.!
Does backcountry sell any that have the plastic cap instead of the partially metal cap? My friends' Klean Kanteens all have a broken cap (except the plastic ones) and even for $14 I'd rather not have to replace the cap eventually.
this small necked bottle is pretty dang easy to drink from. what are you interested in, for easier? klean kanteen has a couple other options, check online. they have a sport cap and a sippy. http://www.kleankanteen.com/products/accessories/klean-kanteen-caps.html
I own 4 of these Klean Kanteen bottles - 2 27oz and 2 40oz bottles - and I use them everywhere - on runs, on trails, in the car, etc.
Finally an eco-friendly choice...but it gets better. Unlike plastic bottles (even the Nalgene and "taste-free" eco-plastic bottles), this is the only water bottle or bag that doesn't leach a nasty taste.
Plus, even Nalgene bottles have been shown to release carcinogens. To test, just put the bottle out in the sun for a day and drink. Yuk!
While plastics are porous (or micro-porous), this metal is not - meaning no nasty bacteria will grow on the bottle. Watch out - other plastics are treated with nasty chemicals to be anti-bacterial.
Plus these are super easy to clean - just add diluted vingear, shake, and rinse.
And the cap is awesome. It's very tight and has a great loop for extra security, clips, or just to slide a finger through.
The cap on this thing broke with the black plastic part separating from the stainless steel on the third day I took it to the OFFICE! Wouldn't last 10 minutes on a camping trip. I thought about trying to glue it back together, but am afraid I'll be eating epoxy with every sip. Might as well got a BPA bottle.
Yep. It does great with hot liquids (except that the metal itself gets hot). I like to fill my Klean Canteen with hot coffee (I always worried about doing this with my Nalgenes, for fear that the plastic would leach into the fluid). Of course, it has no insulation to keep beverages warm, but it also doesn't retain the smell or taste of previous beverages.
These are great quality and come with a nice variety of tops. I don't think they leave a taste - don't think that's possible with high quality stainless. I slip one in my bag for me and one for my daughter now that they also come with an Avent sippy adapter option! If I accidently leave our water in the car in the heat, at least it is still drinkable compared to water that has leached plastic from the bottle.
Metal makes this bottle pretty durable (it fell off my pack once when I was biking at around 20mph and survived ok)... but drinking water out of the bottle taste like metal... eck.
negative, but i'm sure you can rig something up pretty easily. i go for these over the aluminum ones - they've all got a funky metal/garden hose taste to me...but this one is stainless steel, a bit heavier, but no funny taste.
It doesn't, and there aren't different tops.Incorrect, Kleen Kanteen makes LOTS of different tops--- sport(bike), SS flat, #5 plastic flat, SS loop, #5 plastic loop, even a sippy-cup top w/ replaceable nipples!!!! If they are not listed here, you can always find them @ Amazon
I have had this bottle for going on 6 or 7 months now and have enjoyed every sip. Very durable bottle, only has a few dings from drops. Fits very well in my mountain bike water bottle cage. I don't get the metallic taste other reviewers note. I use the sport top for easy drinking while riding, which I recommend if you ride. If you like quite drinking with the sport top, avoid, as the air intake can be quite noisy when sucking down some H2O. If there's anything to complain about this bottle, it's the print on the bottle washes off very easily. Only an occasional annoyance as sometimes I forget how many ounces the bottle holds. Over all, I dig!
I'm not convinced that plastic is bad for anybody, but this is a cool bottle with a nice big mouth. Easy to clean and fill. It's nice how KleanKanteen has a couple different lid options, I think I'll end up buying a flat lid to replace the loop one because the flat is less bulky.
I am looking for a build-in water filter inside the stainless steel water bottles so when i can use in hotels. Any suggestions on where I can find one? Thanks!
I've never heard of or seen anything like what you're looking for. May I suggest any one of the three Katadyn filter bottles. One is a filter & the other two are purifiers. I bought six of these for a family rafting trip in the Grand Canyon. The non-plastic, food-grade stainless is great, just what I wanted. The cap is composed of two parts - a stainless plug containing the screw threads is attached to a plastic top which has the loop for attaching to your gear. We clipped the bottles to the raft, low in the boat, and I think they probably knocked around less than they would if hanging from a backpack loop. Half way through the trip, the plastic top had separated from the screw-in metal plug on three of the bottles, rendering them useless without a pair of pliers to unscrew the plug. Thank goodness we had our Camelbacks as backup!
Great bottle. Watch dropping it on a hard surface, it dents nicely, but adds character. The bottle does not add any taste, even when water is stored in it for extended periods.
Water tastes great out of stainless steel! Liquid stays cool and things don't repeat (like when other beverages are carried in plastic) if properly cleaned. Yeah, they dent, but plastic shears. There are a variety of different lid types and shapes available. Get a few.
Klean Kanteens are wonderful. No funny tastes and usually water tastes a bit cooler than it would from a plastic bottle. I live in Texas so I was concerned that the stainless steel would absorb alot of heat from the sun. So far its not a problem (at least not any worse than it would be with plastic). My only issue with this bottle is that it comes with a metal cap that makes a lot of painful metal on metal noise when you open and close. I prefer the plastic caps which you can buy from Klean Kanteen.
Klean Kanteen are made in China. http://www.kleankanteen.com/7faqs/faqs.htmlHere's more information:http://www.kleankanteen.com/8customer/customercare.htmlhttp://www.kleankanteen.com/7faqs/faqs.html
The bottle is nice and the cap is secure. However, it does sweat so be careful of where you store it (for example, don't leave it inside your pack with your clothes else they will get wet). Mouth is nice size and is easy to drink from w/o spilling fluid on yourself vs. the plastic bottles that require the little insert. Kind of expensive; why change to steel if you already have a store of plastic bottles. One bummer is that a sticky product label was stuck to the inside of the cap. Removing it was a pain and left a sticky residue for a few days until it wore off.
I was standing in Whole Foods the other day looking at their collection of overpriced Swiss bottles and almost broke my arm patting myself on the back for buying the Klean Kanteen. I love good products like this Klean Kanteen, which is the perfect size for day hikes, or bring 2 or 3 for an overnighter. At the price, you can't go wrong.
I got this about 3 weeks ago and its the best bottle I have had. Holds up great backpacking and also with school just starting I carry it around campus. And as always it comes with backcountry.com's amazing customer service and product quality!
the loop cap easily separates into the metal and plastic parts. this is just through normal use. I recommend buying the flat cap directly from klean Kanteen.
Has a metallic taste... Easy to clean and refil. The top not being attached may get lost but guess you could tie it with a peice of string. Mouth is a little big to drink comfortably on the move but much better than the Quart Nalgene. I found a thing called the "top top" for my nalgene that is a screw cap that has another screw cap that is smaller for drinking and now prefer the nalgene.
So far, so good. This bottle is perfect to make the transition from the # 7 Nalgene bottles that there was a scare about. Despite the product description, DO NOT boil water in this bottle as it explicitly states not to use it for hot beverages on the labels. Overall, very durable bottle and I have to ask, what metal does not sweat when you put cold beverages in it? I have not dropped off any buildings to test strength yet, but it seems really solid. If you want a nice alternative to poisonous plastics, this would be a great choice. One side note to backcountry: can this be made in a simple liter version? I have had a lot of people ask why there is not a liter version... So it turns out the lid broke in two on my bottle. That sucks. But just contact backcountry and they will send you out a replacement lid ASAP if this happens. No worries.
I own 4 of these bottles to make sure I always have one with me. I love how durable they are. The water doesn't get that funky taste that plastic will sometimes give after sitting for awhile. Also, I can use it for spirits and not worry about the flavor staying in the bottle.
5 straight months of just wanted and no funky smell or funny taste. Keeps water relatively cool as well. Kinda noisy to open and close, but never garnered any complaints from my co-workers.
This is why I love this bottle: food--grade stainless steel means no coating or lining on the inside that can flake off. I don't know why other companies line their bottles. It's light, the size is perfect for me, always have it in my shoulder bag. Love the Backcountry logo on it. Maybe it is just a placebo affect but water tastes super clean in it and I can add mixes to it when I'm on the trail. It does get dinged easily though, but I guess that's to be expected.
I bought 2 of these bottles for my hubby and I for the office...get away from the dreaded plastic bottle. The water is wonderfully fresh tasting in the bottle, however, they sweat like crazy and leave a nice puddle on the desk.
I have a few kleen kanteens and they've all been great. I use them all the time. I had the 27oz first and then bought the 40oz because I wanted the extra capacity. The 40oz is great for bringing in the car or if I'm going to be out all day, but I've been surprised to discover that I use the 27oz a lot more. Yes it holds less, but it a lot more convenient to carry around with me.
Does what it is supposed to. The Backcountry.com Goat Klean Kanteen works great with none of that BPA scare stuff. Keeps whats in the bottle tasting exactly how it tasted before you put it in. No weird tastes leech in. Not as durable as a nalgene and I found that it's easy to put dents in it especially on the bottom which makes it sit funny but I was able to bang them out a little.
Unlined bottles are a no brainer. Sigg is left saying "Why didn't I think of that"? Can I buy stock in Klean Kanteen? I do suggest the poly top over the stainless. Mine has been dropped on many a rock, skipped across pavement, thrown by an angry wife, and used to fend off a seemingly rabid dog and still it holds water well. Water seems colder too and no plastic taste. Not sure if it is advised, but I use the dishwasher for these once a while and believe it or not stainless steal does not melt and warp in the hot water. Plus, based on the dog experience, for the ladies this would be much more effective in beating the lights out of a creepy dude in the woods! Very sturdy.
Love the bottle --especially the fact that you can put drink mixes in it . But when I'm working the dog I need to be able to keep my hand free and keep watching what's happening -- I'd like to see a spill proof valve and an internal straw
I have been through probably 300 water bottles this year, and most of the time when i open one up it doesnt get finished because of the useless insulation that plastic has. With this stainless steal bottle/kanteen, the insulation is top-notch. I can drink a "COLD" bottle of water and probably finish it because of the insulation. It makes the temperature stay cold from the way its built and how its insulates the cold particles.
I love this bottle. Great solution to my plastic bottles.!
