The double-wall, stainless steel Backcountry.com Dawn Patrol Vacuum Coffee Tumbler keeps hot beverage hot for up to six hours. Maybe you’ll drink that hot liquid; maybe you’ll use it to thaw the frozen lock of a yurt as the sun drops with the temp, who knows? The Dawn Patrol’s lid locks on tight with a vacuum seal that prevents spills as well as it insulates, and its screw-in compartment leaves room for a teabag or sugar. Double-wall stainless steel construction sheaths your beverage in insulation and protection, and the Backcountry.com logo hit shows the love.
This thing is great. With the lid cranked down, you can chuck it around like a water bottle and not spill or break it. 12 ounces might not be enough for some people to get their morning fix, but I thought it was plenty and it keeps the tumbler small. In my experience, the 6 hour time is a bit optimistic, but then again I was opening and closing it a lot. It still lasted about 4 even with that. The little compartment is great for putting a teabag in once your brew has steeped, the edge doesn't get hot, and it's nice and slim. I carried it in an internal coat pocket for a day of skiing and didn't even notice it. Plus the brushed aluminum is super cool and you get to rep the Goat.
Thought this thing would be your traditional coffee mug but it doesn't even let you drink without completely unscrewing the top lid. Has a storage space for tea bags I guess (useless for me). Didn't return it though because would have cost as much as the item to send it back. Only thing on this site I have not been happy with.
The size, shape, style is all nice, but it just doesn't do the job - keep things hot. I tried pre-heating it once with boiling water - 2 1/2 hours later my coffee was luke-warm. It doesn't make sense that there are 3 little holes in the top of the plastic cap that are plugged by a little rubber stopper (which is easy to lose down the drain). Even with the stopper in you can feel the heat being lost through the plastic cap and through the metal cap on top. Just not a good design.
Pretty good for transporting a beverage of choice, but if you intend to buy a coffee thermos that you can actually drink out without spilling hot liquid all over you and the inside of your vehicle, I would suggest looking elsewhere. It leaks and the sippy part does not function well.
Picked up a couple of these tumblers and I love them. I took them up for a little winter camping and they kept my drink very warm for 5 1/2 hours while we got to camp and set everything up....in -10ºf temps. The sipping compartment in the top doubles as a storage for sugar/creamer or whatever your flavor might be. Haven't had a leak yet and I've never burned my fingers so I think it's another great buy from great folks!!!
Keeps my drinks warm, but only 12oz for me is a tease (is that why they sell a three pack???). Its got a goat that's why I bought one (or two I can't find one).
Not a good vacuum bottle. First, the cap is horribly constructed, the entire thing is metal, and the cap is completely plastic with a piece of metal over the top of the cap (which unscrews to reveal a small compartment). In my opinion, the compartment in the cap isn't worth it. HUGE amounts of heat are lost through the top. The most I've had anything stay warm was about 3 hours, this was in an insulated backpack wrapped inside of a primaloft jacket. Other than that my beverages always come out luke warm at best. The worst part is that after only maybe 10 uses the cap has started to leak and the backcountry logo has started to peel off in little chunks, it looks horrible. While I love the size, a friend has a black diamond 17 oz vacuum bottle that has a much better lid and keeps liquid hot for up to 10 hours, and after that they're "just" luke warm. Overall not a quality product and a waste of money.
Height: 7.375"Diameter (bottom): 2.5"Diameter (widest): 2.75"The Backcountry Dawn Patrol Vaccuum Coffee Tumbler will fit into your bike bottle cage, but won't be held very securely. If you want to better secure the Dawn Patrol in a bike bottle cage (with much less metal on metal rattle), I'd recommend the Cutter C12 Bottle Cage (full carbon). Check it out here - http://www.backcountry.com/store/CUT0016/Cutter-C12-Bottle-Cage-Full-Carbon.html
This is perfect for a day of skiing and drinking nice hot coffee on the lifts. The problem is the lid, there is a huge amount of heat released from the lid, the entire thermos will feel cool, and the top of the lid will be burning hot. For anything more than 5 hours this wont keep the liquid any better than luke warm.
I picked two of these up before a trip to Colorado. They were great we love them. They are the perfect size to carry with you on those long days out in the cold. I was able to put in my jacket pocket with no problem. They kept or hot drinks hot and my cold drinks cold. They did exactly what they are suppose to do.
I picked one of these up a few days ago and love it! It really does keep the liquids hot for six hours. I love the compartment on top for tea bags. And you can't go wrong with the brand! Backcountry.com always seems to make top quality gear.
Honestly, I love 100% of my Backcountry.com brand products- except this one. I have had it for less than a month and it is already leaking profusely around the edges. I have only used this a handful of times and there are no visible signs pointing to a cause of aleak.
I basically wanted a nice mug that kept my tea hot/warm at work. Keeps it hot for a couple of hours, and even by lunch it's still quite warm.
Couple of caveats: the lid has a plastic rim to stop the liquid - it's not completely sealed so condensation and liquid gets inside the loop, which is a big no-no for a germophobe such as myself. The cup (and lid) is exceptionally difficult to clean, so even though I've only had it a couple of weeks, it's already showing wear.
I haven't nor will I try carrying it in a bag for later consumption, I have a feeling it'll leak. For that purpose I have a bomb-proof one, so this one is strictly for sipping in front of a computer.
I get lots of compliments on the blue colour I got, it IS beautiful in that regard.
If you're looking to look cool at work drinking out of a beautiful mug, this one's for you.
This is awesome for my commute to the office, it's warm when I get there through about lunchtime then not so much (so 6 hours or so). It's not as efficient as a thermos, but it's good for short trips. There is not a sip feature with it which is a major bummer. If you remove the plastic tab in the top to clean it, you'll be out of a tumbler as it will leak everywhere. So don't lose that piece. The color is great and the size is perfect for bringing extra coffee with me to work or tea!
I bought one for myself and a few others for gifts ... the verdict? Sweeeet. Keeps your drink super hot, and doesn't leak. At 12oz, it's not huge, but it fits well in my pack and in the drink holder in my car. My only gripe is that it doesn't have that little filter thing for coffee like some competitors do (like the dreaded REI). Oh well ... maybe next year?
I bought all 4 colors for myself and various family members for a "stocking stuffer". I opened mine up and played around with it for a bit. It was awesome! First off the sleek design and bright colors are beautiful. The lid is crazy, gives a nice firm seal (hence the vacuum). I tested it out with some hot water and it really did keep it hot for 6 hours, longer i think if i would have left it in. The secret compartment on top if nice for a tea bag, since i'm a green tea junkie. Love this mug, not to mention you get to represent your favorite brand/company. Backcountry represent!
Coffee tumblers are HOT!They will keep your coffee HOT for at least 4 hours and will not spill or leak thanks to that tight ass seal. The only thing is the little sippy part in the lid doenst work very well.
Bought for my husband ... who used it once while snowboarding and a few times while working outside. He was rather bummed that it didn't keep his coffee hot for the promised 6 hours (or even half that). And the goat logo is already wearing off, which makes me sad. On the plus side, it works fine for commuting, and it hasn't leaked, even when upside-down in my bag. And I like how it looks.
nice little mug for a cold a.m. hike...easy to stash in a pack. I keep a tea bag in the top so I think that helps to keep heat from escaping as others have experienced. It kept a smile on my face during a recent 24 hour race.
