The Backcountry Access Tracker DTS Freeride Package comes with the gear you need to increase the odds you and your partners will survive an avalanche in the backcountry. The Tracker DTS Beacon’s digital display shows both distance (in meters) and direction with red LEDs. Backcountry Access claims the Tracker DTS is the easiest on the market to use, which you’ll likely appreciate while practicing and if you ever experience an avalanche. The Profile 240 Probe features a quick-tensioning system for fast assembly and depth markings in one-centimeter increments. BCA’s Traverse Extendable Shovel manages to be burly and lightweight at the same time. A ferruled oval shaft combined with an aluminum blade gives the Traverse an extremely high strength-to-weight ratio, so you can shave ounces off your pack weight yet know this shovel won’t bust at a critical moment.
This is a pretty good deal. BCA has made great gear for years now and I would highly recommend their products. I have had this beacon for years and it is great. The shovel is light an easy to operate and the probe is well designed. However, do not become complacent after purchasing this stuff, as you need to know how to use it for it to work. Otherwise, this is the jam and you can not go wrong with this trifecta.
What is the weld strength/ type on the shovel, specifically where the handle connects to the Shovel? I know G3 has a shovel with a double weld where handle and shovel connect which makes extremely durable and strong. Does this have that?
Also, is the Tracker DTS a good beacon for someone just getting into backcountry trips and avalanche terrain? what is the usage like? Easy to understand and learn, or hard and not effective? Basically is it easy to familiarize and become confident in using with practice? Thanks!
DTS is the gold standard for anyone getting into beacon use or those of us who have used beacons for years easy and dependable. as far as the shovel wouldnt worry about it you wont break it shoveling snow, your not that strong i promise.
The Tracker is one of the best beacon options on the market today. Unless you are practicing beacon searches on a daily basis (i.e. ski patrol), this is the product you want for andy and all of your winter backcountry adventures. The digital display and direction lights are extremely intuitive, and in a highly pressured situation, you won't be wasting extra time in evaluating your beacon's responses. It is fast and easy to get in and out of search mode, and teaching yourself the basics on this one is about as straight-forward as it gets. A beacon that is truly idiot-proof. The beacon's range is slightly less then that of other brands but if you are following proper avi protocol, that should not be an issue- with point last seen etc.
looking for your thoughts for gettingtwo packages of beacon/shovel/probesshovel has to be strong aluminui have a tracker beacon already should i get the know beaconhat do you think, try and get set up with two packages have access to pro forms for working in the businessthanks Paul
This is a very functional and value oriented package. It gets the job done without any bells or whistles. I like the beacon and the probe... the shovel leaves something to be desired... it seems too small and ricketty... nothing more than opinion though. I like building a avi kit from scratch with all the bits and pieces that I like- you only buy it once and it last for years, get the good stuff.
Hey - it does what is supposed to. The tracker is a good beacon - nothing fancy, but easy to use and it works. Shovel and probe seem sturdy and high quality. Cant really go wrong.
Why package something if you are not going to make it a deal? Retail for the DTS is 289, retail for the probe is 50, and retail for the shovel is 45. If you bought everything seperate the price would be 384, a nickel more then this package. Kind of silly.
This beacon is without a doubt, the easiest to use on the market. Others may be great for experienced BC skiers/boarders and guides. But for someone just getting into the BC, this beacon is perfect. Easy to read numbers give you distance, while LEDs lead you to the victim.
The shovel, its a shovel, works great, its metal so you can beat the crap out of it.
Probe. good probe. took a couple times to learn how to get the cord to lock properly, so practice with it a few times to get used to that.
