Fill up the included 100oz hydration bladder, tuck it into the Backcountry Access Stash BC Pack, and head out for a full day backcountry tour. Thanks to this backcountry skiing backpack's winterized hydration system, your water will remain in its liquid state for the entire trip. The Stash BC's hose and bite valve are neatly stashed inside a Outlast insulated shoulder strap, which stores body heat, then releases it when the temperature drops, keeping the bite valve and tube free of ice. Backcountry Access also gave the Stash BC an external shovel and probe pockets to keep your avalanche rescue close at hand. The removable plastic and foam framesheet adds support for longer tours.
Bottom Line: Keep your water unfrozen, your back comfortable, and your avalanche tools close at hand in the Backcountry Access Stash BC Pack.
So this pack has been my main ski/hike pack for 4 years. I got this pack to haul gear to the mtns with. It hodl just enough gear for the day trips. Plus with its many starps and hooks you can easily clip on items like water bottles, ropes, etc.
I have the original color black and it holding up very well. I have had no problems with leaking, broken zipps, etc. I even left it outside one time in the poring rain and surprisingly after an entie night in the rain the inside was dry.
This pack fits really well on your back and the adjustible straps are easy to move it around to your comfort.
I have been using the stash BC pack for 2 seasons now and for the most part I love it. The design is simple, yet very functional, pockets are well placed, integrated hydration system is the best I have seen and the waterproof material/zippers shed water, even in a downpour. The outer pocket fits a shovel blade and there is an internal sleeve to store the handle and probe for quick access. My biggest complaint about this pack is the way the ski loops were sewn onto the top of the pack. The sewing is solid but the material is very thin and with no backing material the loops tore off after a single ascent with skis a-framed. The lightweight material used on this pack compromises durability and is prone to tearing if tested by an ice tool, crampon or pole tip. Like a previous reviewer, I also experienced some seam splitting (they are glued, not sewn).
I ended up returning my BCA Stash for warranty and replacing it with the Osprey Switch 36 which has proven to be a better all around winter BC pack. The Switch 36 is slightly larger, has two really useful hip stash pockets for snacks, camera, GPS, etc as well as a more comfortable suspension for heavier loads.
The one in the middle is me and the Stash BC. It is loaded with my ice tool crampons, food, water, helmet and extra layers for a full day of touring in AK and is still comfortably snug to my back with no lateral play.
I love this pack. It is super comfortable and the perfect size for a day in the backcountry. Fits all your snacks and extra layers, plus it has a nice hydration system and shovel pocket. It's quick and easy to attach skis to the pack (vertical and a-frame). Highly recommend!
The Stash BC is in my opinion the best day sack out there. I have been using 1 for 4 seasons now, it has good capacity, easy access, is well built & a bladder that will not freeze even in -29c.
i am going on my second season with this pack. the hydration system is great and has never frozen. i do have a beef with the taped seam on the top of the pack. it is starting to pull apart. also, the upper ski straps seem like they about to pull away form the bag sometimes. the pack advertises diagonal as well as a-frame, but i can't figure out how to attach diagonaly. overall a good pack that could use some re-design.
The Stash BC is a great pack. It was clearly designed by people who have spent a good amount of time in the BC. Everything on this pack is well placed and simplistic, which is what I love about it.
