Black Diamond Mondo Crash Pad - 2006

Black Diamond reintroduces the Mondo Crash Pad, formerly sold under the Franklin Climbing Equipment name, with the same burly padding and construction that emboldened highball boulderers around the world. Rock and Ice loves this pad so much they gave it their Best in Gear award. One solid inch of closed-cell foam caps four inches of open-cell foam for a beefy 5in landing zone that is nearly impossible to bottom out. Ample surface area also creates a big target, so if you do decide to drop off from 25 feet you'll have a much better chance of hitting the pad. A flat-hinged design makes the Mondo a lot easier to fold shut and much more compact. Believe it or not, this thing actually fits in the backseat of most cars—the whole backseat. Aluminum buckles, reinforced corners, and double-stitched seams add years to the life of a pad that's meant to get a beat down.

Bottom Line: Go Mondo or go home with the Black Diamond Crash Pad. .

Mondo means business !!!

By:
September 29, 2006

After recently bottoming out on my old trusty crash pad, which drove my tibia bone into my footbed and wrenched the tendons and the cart that connect the mid toes to the calf muscles, I decided to up-grade. After extensive research on crash pads, chatting with a few folks, and sampling a few different pads, I decided on the Mondo crashpad by Black Diamond. BD has done their homework when it comes to crashpads. BD conducts weight tests on the foams they use to make sure you own a quality product that will save you a trip to the Doc's office. I've taken a couple of tall ones on it and its no problem, very comfortable landings.
Next its a BD Drop Zone. Oh yeah, watch out on windy days carrying this baby...

Broken bones suck

By:

It’s big and that’s a good thing. Not taking every available precaution is a bad thing.

I have 9 pins and a plate in my right heal and 5 pins, a plate and bone from my hip in my right knee.

Surgery and multiple year recoveries really cuts into your training time. To stay out from under the surgeon’s knife, you gotta be able to hit the pad and you NEVER want to bottom out. Until somebody makes something better, this is the ONLY pad I will ever use. Period.

Mondo Crash Pad Rocks!

By:
January 18, 2006

I bought the Mondo crash pad for my son after his climbing buddy shattered his ankle while bouldering. We tested the pad in Yosemite, and it was fabulous. He remarked that he did not realize how much he was bottoming out on his other crash pad until he landed on the Mondo. If you value your bones, this is the baby for you.

This crash pad is awesome. It’s durable and has plenty of landing surface. It also works well as a bed when camping.
